Merits of Fridays

Friday days and nights excel the other days and nights in standing, honor, and regard. In this connection, the Holy Prophet () is reported to have said, Surely, in each hour of the twenty-four hours of the Friday day and night, Almighty Allah releases from Hellfire six hundred thousand persons.

Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) is reported to have said, One who dies in the period between midday on Thursdays and midday on Fridays will be released, by Almighty Allah, from pressure in graves.

Imam al-diq (as) is also reported as saying, Verily, Fridays enjoy rights (incumbent upon people). Therefore, beware of violating Fridays sanctity through showing shortcoming in acts of worship; rather, seek nearness to Almighty Allah by means of righteous deeds and abandonment of all forbidden acts. Certainly, on Fridays, Almighty Allah doubles up the rewards (of good deeds), erases forgivingly punishments (for evildoings), and raises the ranks (of faith). Friday daytimes are as same as Friday nights; therefore, you may, when possible, stay up supplicating and offering prayers to Almighty Allah Who, at that night, orders the angels to descend to the lower sky in order to double up the rewards and erase the evildoings. Most surely, Allah is Ample-giving and All-generous.

Imam al-diq (as) is also reported, in a validly reported tradition, to have said, When a believing individual prays to Him for granting him his request, Almighty Allah may postpone the answer of that request to Friday in order that the individual will be given all the more due to the exclusive merit of Fridays.

Imam al-diq (as) is also reported as narrating that when Prophet Josephs brothers asked their father, Prophet Jacob, to ask Almighty Allahs forgiveness of their faults, he promised to do that. Yet, he postponed that appeal to Friday early dawn so as to guarantee response.

Again, Imam al-diq (as) is reported as saying that on Friday nights, fishes in oceans and beasts in wildernesses raise their heads and pray Almighty Allah saying in a loud sound, O Our Lord; torture us not for the sins of the human beings.

Imam Muammad al-Bqir (as) is reported to have said that on Friday nights, Almighty Allah gives orders to an angelon behalf of Himto call out, from above the Divine Throne, throughout the night, Is there not any believing servant who will, right now, supplicate Me, before dawn comes upon him, for his world and Next World needs so that I will respond to him? Is there not any believing servant who, right now, repents to Me, before dawn comes upon him, and gives up his sins so that I will accept his repentance? Is there not any believing servant whose sustenance has been made reduced who will, right now, prays Me for increase, before dawn comes upon him, so that I will increase and develop his sustenance? Is there not any believing servant, being ailed, who will, right now, pray Me for healing, before dawn comes upon him, so that I will heal him? Is there not any believing servant, being grieved and detained, who will, right now, pray Me for relief and release, before dawn comes upon him, so that I will relieve and release him? Is there not any believing servant, being oppressed, who will, right now, pray Me for giving him victory and releasing him from oppression, before dawn comes upon him, so that I will back and release from oppression? This angel will keep saying so until dawn.

Likewise, Imam Al Amr al-Mu'minn (as) is reported to have said, As He has chosen Friday, Almighty Allah has decided their daytimes and nights to be feasts. One of its merits, whoever beseeches Him on Fridays will be granted his request. Chastisement that is decided for a people because of an evildoing will be canceled by Him if that evildoing is committed on Friday. All graces that Almighty Allah decides are put into practice on Friday nights. Hence, Friday nights are more favorable than other nights and so are their days.

Imam al-diq (as) is reported as saying, Avoid committing any act of disobedience (to Almighty Allah) on Friday nights, for the punishments (of evildoing) are doubled up, and rewards (for good deeds) are also doubled up. Whoever avoids committing an act of disobedience at Friday nights, Almighty Allah will forgive all of his previous sins. In the same way, whoever challenges Almighty Allah by committing an act of disobedience at such nights, Almighty Allah will punish him for each and every act of disobedience that he did in his whole lifetime and will double up the punishment for him.

It has been authentically narrated on the authority of Imam `Al ibn Ms al-Ri (as) that the Holy Prophet () said, Verily, Friday is the master of days. On Fridays, Almighty Allah doubles up the rewards (for good deeds), erases, forgivingly, the punishments (for evildoings), raises the ranks (of faith), responds to prayers, relieves from misfortunes, and fulfills the grand requests. Friday is the day of bonus. Almighty Allah, on Fridays, releases numerous individuals from Hellfire. When anyone prays Him on Friday while having already appreciated the actual standing and the sanctity of this day, it will be incumbent upon Almighty Allah to release him/her from Hellfire. If that individual dies on that day or night, he/she will be decided as martyr and will be resurrected (on the Judgment Day) secured. Conversely, if one belittles the sanctity of Friday and disrespects its standings, it will be incumbent upon Almighty Allah to cast him/her into Hellfire unless he/she repents thereafter.

Imam Muammad al-Bqir (as) is reported, through an authentic chain of authority, to have said, Sunlight has never risen in a day better than Friday. When beards meet each other on that day, they greet each other with, Peace! Good day!

Imam Ja`far al-diq (as) is authentically reported to have said, On Fridays, do not engage yourselves in anything other than acts of worship, for the servants faults are forgiven and the divine mercy is sent down on Fridays.

Finally, the merits of Friday daytimes and nights are too many to be cited in this brief introduction.

FRIDAY BEFORE FAJR /  AT FAJR / AFTER FAJR

Eleventh In his book of al-`Ars, Shaykh Ja`far ibn Amad al-Qumm has recorded that Imam al-diq (as) is reported to have said that one who repeats the following litany one hundred times between the Dawn nafila (supererogatory) and obligatory prayers will be provided with, a house in Paradise:

subna rabbiya al`ami wa biamdih

All glory be to Allah, the All-great and with the Praising of Him;

astaghfiru allha rabb wa atbu ilayhi

I pray the forgiveness of Allah, my Lord, and I turn repentant to Him.

It has been also narrated that one who says the following  three times before the Dawn (Fajr) Prayer on Fridays will have all his sins forgiven even if they are as innumerable as swelling foams:

astaghfiru allha alladh l ilha ill huwa

I pray the forgiveness of Allah save Whom there is no god;

alayyu alqayymu

the Ever-living and Ever-subsisting,

wa atbu ilayhi

and I turn in repentance to Him.

Twelfth Shaykh al-Tusi, Sayyid Ibn Tawus, and others have mentioned the following  prayer on  Friday just before Dawn dua alludes to dangers of total reliance on own intelligence. Img

place fear of You in my heart,

att l arjwa wa l akhfa ill iyyka

so that I will hope for and fear none save You.

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and his Household

wa hab l thabta alyaqni

and grant me resolute faith,

wa maa al-ikhli

pure sincerity (to You),

wa sharafa alttawdi

honorable belief in (Your) oneness,

y qiya aw'iji alss'ilna

O He Who settles the needs of His beseechers;

and settle the needs of myself

wa ikhwn f dn wa ahl

and my brethren-in-faith and my family members.

ilh umu al-mli qad khbat ill ladayka

O Allah, all ambitions of expectations are disappointed except those addressed to You,

wa ma`kifu alhimami qad ta`aalat ill `alayka

all resolute determinations are paralyzed except those relied upon You,

wa madhhibu al`uqli qad samat ill ilayka

and all reason-based tendencies are wasted except those directed to You.

fa-anta alrraj'u wa ilayka almultaja'u

So, You are the ultimate hope and to You is the resort.

y akrama maqdin wa ajwada mas'lin

O He Who is the noblest objective and the most magnanimous desired,

I am fleeing to You from myself.

y malja'a alhribna bi-athqli aldhdhunbi

O shelter of those who flee overburdened with the heavy loads of sins,

carrying my sins on my back,

l ajidu l ilayka shfi`an

I cannot find any interceder for me

siw ma`rifat bi'annaka aqrabu man rajhu allibna

except that I know for sure that You are the nearest of all those who are hoped by beseechers

wa ammala m ladayhi alrrghibna

and of all those whose donations are expected by the desirous.

y man fataqa al`uqla bima`rifatih

O He Who exposes the pitfalls of reason (if) awareness of Him is perceived

wa alaqa al-alsuna biamdih

and makes speech meaningful (if) it sings His praises

wa ja`ala m imtanna bih `al `ibdih f kif'in lita'diyati aqqh

and made that which He has conferred upon His servants enough means for the fulfillment of their duties towards Him;

alli `al muammadin wa lih

(please) send blessings to Muhammad and his Household,

wa l taj`al lilshshayni `al `aql sablan

do not give Satan any way (of success) over my reason,

wa l lilbili `al `amal dallan

let not falsehood bring arguments to corrupt my conduct.

c) At Fajr /When Friday dawns, it is recommended to say the following:Mp3

abatu f dhimmati allhi

I begin this morning seeking the protection of Allah,

wa dhimmati mal'ikatih

the protection of His angels,

wa dhimami anbiy'ih wa rusulih `alayhimu alssalmu

the protections of His prophets and messengers, peace be upon them,

wa dhimmati muammadin all allhu `alayhi wa lih

the protection of Muammad, peace be upon him and his Household,

wa dhimami al-awiy'i min li muammadin `alayhimu alssalmu

and the protections of the Successors from Muammads progeny, peace be upon them.

mantu bisirri li muammadin `alayhimu alssalmu wa `alniyatihim

I believe in the secrets of Muammads progeny, peace be upon them, and in their open affairs

wa hirihim wa binihim

and in their exoteric and their esoteric affairs.

wa ash-hadu annahum f `ilmi allhi wa `atih

I bear witness that they, as regarding their knowledge of Allah and their obedience to Him,

ka-muammadin all allhu `alayhi wa lih

are just like Muammad, peace be upon him and his Household.

Alternate translation :In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. O Allah send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad. I seek the light of the morning under the protective shelter of Allah, under the watchful eyes of His Angels, under the safe security of His Prophets and Messengers, peace be on them, under the reliable surety of Muhammad, blessings of Allah be on him and on his children, under the trustworthy guaranty of the successors of Muhammad, peace be upon them, I believe in and rely upon Aali Muhammad whole heartedly, peace be upon them, publicly known, distinct, evident, perceived by hearts. I testify that they are signs of Allah, in His service, like Muhammad, blessings of Allah be on him and on his children.

After Fajr Salat  PDF   Image MP3:

In the first unit of the Dawn Prayer, it is recommended to recite Srah al-Jumu`ah (No. 62) and, in the second unit, Srah al-Tawd (No. 112).

Before saying anything, it is recommended to say the following  prayer after the Dawn Prayer so that all sins committed throughout the week will be forgiven:

allhumma m qultu f jumu`at hdhih min qawlin

O Allah, whatever saying I have uttered this week,

aw alaftu fh min alfin

whatever oath I have taken during it,

aw nadhartu fh min nadhrin

and whatever vow I have made during it,

famashiyyatuka bayna yaday dhlika kullih

verily, it is Your will that is before all that.

fam shi'ta minhu an yakna kna

Hence, only that which You will to have effect will come to pass

wa m lam tasha' minhu lam yakun

and whatever You do not will to have effect will never come to pass.

allhumma ighfir l wa tajwaz `ann

O Allah, (please) forgive me and overlook my offenses.

allhumma man allayta `alayhi faalat `alayhi

O Allah, whosoever You bless, then I invoke Your blessings upon him

wa man la`anta fala`nat `alayhi

and whosoever You curse, then I invoke Your curse upon him.

This act should be done once a month at least. It has been also narrated that one who, after the accomplishment of the Dawn Prayer on Fridays, does devotional acts and says supplications and invocations until sunrise will be raised seventy ranks to the Supreme Paradise.

Shaykh al-s has recorded that it is highly recommended to say the following prayer after the Dawn Prayer on Fridays:Mp3

allhumma inn ta`ammadtu ilayka bijat

O Allah, I am resorting to You with my needs,

wa anzaltu ilayka alyawma faqr

and I am putting in Your presence my poverty,

wa fqat wa maskanat

my indigence, and my deprivation.

fa-an limaghfiratika arj minn li`amal

Verily, I hope for Your forgiveness more than I rely on my deeds.

wa lamaghfiratuka wa ramatuka awsa`u min dhunb

Indeed, Your forgiveness and Your mercy are more inclusive than my sins are.

fatawalla qa'a kulli jatin l biqudratika `alayh

So, (please) embark on settling all my needs out of Your power over them,

wa taysri dhlika `alayka

out of the easiness for You to do that,

wa lifaqr ilayka

and out of my urgent need for that.

fa'inn lam uib khayran qau ill minka

Verily, I have not gained any good thing save from You

wa lam yarif `ann s'an qau aadun siwka

and none could ever repel evil from me save You.

wa lastu arj li-khirat wa dunyya wa

I hope for none to stand for me in my affairs of this world and the Next World

l liyawmi faqr

and on the day of my poverty,

yawma yufridun alnnsu f ufrat

when people will leave me alone in my hole (i.e. grave)

wa uf ilayka bidhanb siwka

and I will then confess of my sins before You, except You.

RECOMMENDED rites ON FRIDAYS

Too many are the recommended rites on Fridays; yet, we will briefly mention the following:

Second: Before saying any word, it is recommended to say the following  prayer after the Dawn Prayer so that all sins committed throughout the week will be forgiven PDF   Image MP3:

allhumma m qultu f jumu`at hdhih min qawlin

O Allah, whatever saying I have uttered this week,

aw alaftu fh min alfin

whatever oath I have taken during it,

aw nadhartu fh min nadhrin

and whatever vow I have made during it,

famashiyyatuka bayna yaday dhlika kullih

verily, it is Your will that is before all that.

fam shi'ta minhu an yakna kna

Hence, only that which You will to have effect will come to pass

wa m lam tasha' minhu lam yakun

and whatever You do not will to have effect will never come to pass.

allhumma ighfir l wa tajwaz `ann

O Allah, (please) forgive me and overlook my offenses.

allhumma man allayta `alayhi faalat `alayhi

O Allah, whosoever You bless, then I invoke Your blessings upon him

wa man la`anta fala`nat `alayhi

and whosoever You curse, then I invoke Your curse upon him.

This act should be done once a month at least.

It has been also narrated that one who, after the accomplishment of the Dawn Prayer on Fridays, does devotional acts and says supplications and invocations until sunrise will be raised seventy ranks to the Supreme Paradise.

Shaykh al-s has recorded that it is highly recommended to say the following prayer after the Dawn Prayer on Fridays::Mp3

allhumma inn ta`ammadtu ilayka bijat

O Allah, I am resorting to You with my needs,

wa anzaltu ilayka alyawma faqr

and I am putting in Your presence my poverty,

wa fqat wa maskanat

my indigence, and my deprivation.

fa-an limaghfiratika arj minn li`amal

Verily, I hope for Your forgiveness more than I rely on my deeds.

wa lamaghfiratuka wa ramatuka awsa`u min dhunb

Indeed, Your forgiveness and Your mercy are more inclusive than my sins are.

fatawalla qa'a kulli jatin l biqudratika `alayh

So, (please) embark on settling all my needs out of Your power over them,

wa taysri dhlika `alayka

out of the easiness for You to do that,

wa lifaqr ilayka

and out of my urgent need for that.

fa'inn lam uib khayran qau ill minka

Verily, I have not gained any good thing save from You

wa lam yarif `ann s'an qau aadun siwka

and none could ever repel evil from me save You.

wa lastu arj li-khirat wa dunyya wa

I hope for none to stand for me in my affairs of this world and the Next World

l liyawmi faqr

and on the day of my poverty,

yawma yufridun alnnsu f ufrat

when people will leave me alone in my hole (i.e. grave)

wa uf ilayka bidhanb siwka

and I will then confess of my sins before You, except You.

Third: It has been narrated that one who says the following invocation after the uhr and Fajr Prayers on Fridays, as well as other days, will catch Imam al-Mahd (`a) before he dies:

allhumma alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin wa `ajjil farajahum

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad and hasten their Relief.

In addition, it has been narrated that one who repeats the aforesaid invocation one hundred times will have sixty of his requests granted for himthirty in this worldly life and thirty on the Resurrection Day.

Fourth: It is recommended to recite Srah al-Ramn (No. 55) after the Fajr Prayer on Fridays and to say, "Laa bi-shay-in min alaa-ika rabbi ukad'dhibu" None of Your favors do I deny,([1]) wherever the verses, Then which of the favors of your Lord will ye deny? are recited.

Fifth: Shaykh al-s has recorded that it is highly recommended to recite Srah al-Tawd, to invoke Almighty Allahs blessings upon Muammad and his Household, and to pray Him for forgiveness each one hundred times after the Fajr Prayer on Fridays. It is also highly recommended to recite Srahs al-Nis' (No. 4), Hd (No. 11), al-Kahf (No. 18), al-fft (No. 37), and al-Ramn (No. 55) during that time.

Sixth: It is recommended to recite Srah al-Aqf (No. 46) and Srah al-Mu'minn (No. 23).

Imam al-diq (`a) is reported as saying that any one who recites Srah al-Aqf at Friday nights or on Fridays will not be inflicted by dismays in his worldly life and will be saved from the horrors on the Resurrection Day. The Imam (`a) is also reported as saying that any one who recites Srah al-Mu'minn regularly each Friday will come upon a happy end and will be granted an abode in the Supreme Paradise with the Prophets and Messengers of Almighty Allah.

Seventh: It is recommended to repeat Srah al-Kfirn (No. 109) ten times before sunrise and then pray Almighty Allah so that all prayers will be answered.

It has been narrated that Imam `Al ibn al-usayn Zayn al-`bidn (`a) used to repeat reciting yah al-Kurs (verse No. 255 of Srah al-Baqarah No. 2) from early morning up to midday on Fridays. When he accomplished the obligatory prayers, he would recite Srah al-Qadr (No. 97) frequently.

It is worth mentioning that to recite yah al-Kurs in the form of revelation([2]) on Fridays achieves a great reward.

Eighth: GHUSL It is highly recommended to bathe oneself. In fact, this is one of the most confirmed rituals of Fridays. The Holy Prophet () is reported to have instructed Imam `Al (`a) by saying, O `Al; wash yourself every Friday even if you have to purchase water with your daily provisions and have nothing to eat. Verily, no voluntary act is better than this.

Imam al-diq (`a) is also reported to have said: Whoever washes himself on Fridays and, meanwhile, says the following   prayer will be pure all through that week:

ash-hadu an l ilha ill allhu

I bear witness that there is no god except Allah,

wadah l sharka lah

the One, (there is) no associate with Him;

wa ash-hadu anna muammadan `abduh wa rasluh

and I testify that Muammad is His servant and His Messenger.

allhumma alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muammad and the Household of Muammad,

waj`aln mina alttawwbna

and make me of those who turn to You constantly

waj`aln mina almutaahhirna

and those who keep themselves pure and clean.

Pure in the aforesaid adth stands for purification from sins or acceptance of the deeds, which is thus moral purification.

In any case, it is important not to neglect bathing oneself on Fridays when possible. The recommended time of this bathing is between sunrise and midday. In addition, the nearer to midday the better.

Ninth: It is recommended to dye with hibiscus, for it saves from leprosy and insanity.

Tenth: It is also recommended to cut the mustache neatly and trim the nails so as not to miss the great merits of doing these acts. As has been mentioned in narrations, these acts bring about expansion in sustenance, cancellation of sins up to the next Friday, and security from insanity and leprosy. On doing that, it is recommended to say the following litany:

bismillhi

In the Name of Allah (I begin);

wa billhi

and by (the command of) Allah

wa `al sunnati muammadin wa li muammadin

and according to the tradition of Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad (I do this).

It is also recommended, on cutting the nails, to start with the little finger of the left hand and end with that of the right hand. The same thing is applicable to the nails of the feet. Then, the cut nails should be buried.

Eleventh: It is recommended to apply perfume and put on the best of ones clothes.

Twelfth: It is recommended to give alms, for the rewards are doubled up on Fridays and at Friday nights, as is confirmed by narrations, as one thousand folds as giving alms on other days.

Thirteenth: It is recommended to arrange fruits and wholesome meals to the family members so that Fridays will be their days of pleasure.

Fourteenth: It is recommended to eat pomegranate before breakfast and to eat seven leaves of endive before midday. In this connection, Imam Ms al-Kim (`a) is reported to have said, The heart of him who eats a pomegranate before breakfast on Fridays will be enlightened for forty days. To eat two pomegranates increases the period of enlightenment to eighty days, and so on. It also dismisses the evil suggestions. Of course, to get rid of Satans suggestions is to stop acting disobediently to Almighty Allah; and to stop acting disobediently to Him allows entrance to Paradise.

In al-Mib, the author has said that to eat pomegranates on Fridays and at Friday nights achieves great merits.

Fifteenth: It is recommended to dedicate Fridays to learning the religious laws and instructions, not to wandering in others gardens, accompanying the vicious and the licentious, speaking about the others defects, laughing and guffawing, reciting poetry, and discussing useless subjects as well as similar matters. Disadvantages arisen from such matters are too many to be mentioned.

Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) is reported as saying, Woe to a Muslim who does not dedicate Fridays to learning the affairs of his religion.

The Holy Prophet () is also reported to have said, If you, on Fridays, see old men telling the tales of infidelity and of the pre-Islamic era, you should then make their heads the targets of stones.

Sixteenth: It is recommended to repeat one thousand times at least the invocation of blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household. Imam Muammad al-Bqir (`a) is reported to have said, For me, no act of worship is more favorable than invoking blessings upon the Prophet and his immaculate Householdmay Allah bless them allon Fridays.

If there is not enough time to repeat this invocation one thousand times, it must be repeated one hundred times at least so that faces will be brightened on the Judgment Day.

It has been also narrated that all sins will be totally forgiven for those who repeat invocations of blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household one hundred times, repeat the following   prayer one hundred times, and recite Srah al-Tawd (No. 112) one hundred times on Fridays:

astaghfiru allha rabb wa atbu ilayhi

I pray the forgiveness of Allahmy Lord, and I repent before Him.

It has been also narrated that to invoke blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his household is equal (in reward) to seventy times of going on ajj.

Seventeenth: It is recommended to say the ritual Ziyrahs of the Holy Prophet and Imams, peace be upon them all. A section of this book is dedicated to the etiquettes and methods of Ziyrahs.

Eighteenth: It is recommended to visit the tombs of ones relatives in general and parents in particular. Imam al-Bqir (`a) is reported as saying, Visit the graves of your relatives on Fridays, for they know about those who visit their graves and will be happy for that.

Nineteenth: It is recommended to say Du`' al-Nudbah Supplication, which is one of the rites to be done on the Four Feast Days (i.e. `d al-Firthe first of Shawwl, `d al-Athe tenth of Dhul-ijjah, `d al-Ghadrthe eighteenth of Dhul-ijjah, and Fridays).

Prayers on Fridays

Twentieth: Excluding the Friday Supererogatory Prayer (Nfilat al-Jumu`ah), many other optional prayers are reported to be offered on Fridays. Although the majority of these prayers are not dedicated to Fridays, it is highly recommended to offer them on Fridays.

One of these prayers is al-alt al-Kmilah (The Perfect Prayer) that has been mentioned by many master scholars through numerous authentic series of reporters from Imam Ja`far al-diq on the authority of his honorable fathers on the authority of the Holy ProphetAllahs peace and blessings be upon them all. In this connection, the Holy Prophet () is reported to have said: As for any one who, before midday on Fridays, offers a four-unit prayer and recites the following in each unit: (1) Srah al-Ftiah ten times, (2) Srah al-Ns (No. 114) ten times, (3) Srah al-Falaq (No. 113) ten times, (4) Srah al-Tawd (No. 112) ten times, (5) Srah al-Kfirn (No. 109) ten times, (6) yah al-Kurs (2:155) ten times, [And, according to another narration, (7) Srah al-Qadr (No. 97) ten times, (8) yat Shahidallh (3:18-19) ten times,] and, after the accomplishment of the prayer, (1) repeats the following statement one hundred times:

astaghfiru allha

I implore for Allahs forgiveness.

(2) repeats the following litany one hundred times:

subna allhi

All glory be to Allah;

walamdu lillhi

all praise be to Allah;

wa l ilha ill allhu

there is no god save Allah;

wallhu akbaru

Allah is the Greatest;

wa l awla wa l quwwata ill billhi al`aliyyi al`ami

and there is no power and no might save with Allah, the All-high, the All-Great.

(3) repeats the following invocation one hundred times:

O Allah, (please) bless Muammad and the Household of Muammad.

allhumma alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin

As for him who offers this prayer, Almighty Allah will save him from the evils of the inhabitants of the heavens, the inhabitants of the earth, the devil, and all unjust rulers.

Another Prayer

It has been narrated on the authority of al-rith al-Hamadn that Imam `Al Amr al-Mu'minn (`a) said: If possible, offer on Fridays ten units of prayer with perfect genuflection (ruk`) and prostration (sujd) repeating the following litany one hundred times between each couple (i.e. two) of units:

All glory be to Allah and with the Praising of Him.

subna allhi wa biamdih

To offer this prayer brings about a great reward.

A Third Prayer

It has been authentically narrated that Imam al-diq (`a) said, One who recites Srahs Ibrhm (No. 14) and al-ijr (No. 15) altogether in a two-unit prayer on Fridays will be saved from poverty, insanity, and misfortunes forever.:-

I pray for the forgiveness of Allah; there is no god save Him, the Ever-living, the Self-Subsisting,

& I ask Him to accept my repentance, like that of a slave who is submissive, acquiescent, poor, despondent

Not controlling for himself any injustice or justice, harm or profit, and not controlling death nor life nor raising (the dead) to life.

O Allah Please send Blessings upon Muhammad & his pure family ,the divine, righteous & good, Peace be on them

Twenty-First: Among the recommended acts on Fridays is that one may say the following   prayer at midday as is narrated by Muammad ibn Muslim on the authority of Imam Ja`far al-diq, peace be upon him. Yet, the following form of the supplication has been quoted from Shaykh al-ss famous book entitled Mib al-Mutahajjid  :Mp3

l ilha ill allhu

There is no god save Allah.

wallhu akbaru

Allah is the Most Great.

wa subna allhi

Glory be to Allah.

walamdu lillhi alladh lam yattakhidh waladan

All praise be to Allah Who has not taken to Himself a son

wa lam yakun lah sharkun f almulki

nor has He had any partner in sovereignty

wa lam yakun lah waliyyun mina aldhdhulli

nor does He need any to protect Him from humiliation,

wa kabbirhu takbran

and magnify Him for His greatness and glory.

You may then say the following:

y sbigha alnni`ami

O Conferrer of boon amply!

alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin

(Please) send blessings to Muammad and the Household of Muammad

waf`al b m anta ahluh

and do to me all that which befits You.

O He Whose Name is remedy,

wa dhikruh shif'un

the remembrance of Whom is cure,

wa `atuh ghan'un

and the obedience to Whom is sufficiency,

O Fashioner of the heavens and the earth,

y dhaljalli wal-ikrmi

O Lord of majesty and honor.

Twenty-Second: It is recommended to recite Srah al-Jumu`ah (No. 62) and Srah al-Munfiqn (No. 63) in the uhr (noon) Prayer on Fridays and to recite Srah al-Jumu`ah and Srah al-Tawd in the `Ar (afternoon) Prayer.

Shaykh al-adq has narrated that Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) said: It is obligatory upon all believers who claim being adherents (Sh`ah) to us (i.e. to the Ahl al-Bayt) to recite Srah al-Jumu`ah and Srah al-A`l (No. 78) in the obligatory prayers at Friday nights and to recite Srah al-Jumu`ah and Srah al-Munfiqn in the uhr Prayer on Fridays. One who does so will be regarded as following the example of the Holy Messenger, peace be upon him and his Household, and Almighty Allah will award him Paradise.

Shaykh al-Kulayn has narrated in a semi-authentic narration that al-alab asked Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) whether one should recite the uhr Prayer audibly on Fridays (in case one cannot attend the congregational Friday Prayer). The Imam (`a) answered on the affirmative and confirmed that one should recite Srah al-Jumu`ah and al-Munfiqn in the uhr Prayer on Fridays.

Twenty-Third: With reference to the post-prayer litanies in general and the supplications to be said after the Friday uhr Prayer, Shaykh al-s has quoted Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) as saying: Whoever recites on Friday after the concluding part of the uhr Prayer the following parts of the Holy Qur'n, will be under the divine protection all over the week:

(1) Srah al-Ftiah seven times, (2) Srah al-Ns seven times, (3) Srah al-Falaq seven times, (4) Srah al-Tawd seven times, (5) Srah al-Kfirn seven times,

 (6) the last two verses of Surah al-Tawbah (No. 9),

 (7)  the final verses of Srah al-ashr

and (8)(8) the final verses of Srah l-`Imrn

Twenty-Fourth: Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) is also reported to have said: If one says the following  prayer after the Fajr Prayer or the uhr Prayer, no sin will be recorded against him for a whole year:

allhumma ij`al alawtika

O Allah, (please do) let Your blessings

wa alata mal'ikatika wa rusulika

and the blessings of Your angels and Messengers

`al muammadin wa li muammadin

be on Muammad and the Household of Muammad.

Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) is also reported to have said: If one says the following  prayer after the Fajr Prayer or the uhr Prayer (on Fridays), he will not die before he catches the age of Imam al-Mahd, peace be upon him:

O Allah, send blessings to Muammad and the Household of Muammad and hasten their Relief.

allhumma alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin wa `ajjil farajahum

The earlier supplication also brings about security from misfortunes up to the next Friday if it is repeated three times after the Friday uhr Prayer.

It has been also narrated that one who invokes Almighty Allahs blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household, peace be upon them, between the two obligatory uhr and `Ar prayers will have the reward of offering a seventy-unit prayer.

Twenty-Fifth: It is recommended to say the following two supplications of al-afah al-Sajjdiyyah al-Kmilah:

(1)

y man yaramu man l yaramuhu al`ibdu

O He Who has mercy upon him toward whom the servants show no mercy

(2)

allhumma hdh yawmun mubrakun maymnun

O Allah, this is a blessed and fortunate day

Then, supplicate as seems proper to you and invoke blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household one thousand times. Thus was Imam Zayn al-`bidn (`a) used to doing.

Twenty-Sixth: In his book of Mib al-Mutahajjid, Shaykh al-s says that the Holy Imams, peace be upon them, are reported to have said: When one offers, after the obligatory uhr Prayer on Fridays, a two-unit prayer reciting in each unit Srah al-Ftiah once and repeating Srah al-Tawd seven times and after accomplishment says the following   prayer, one will be saved against all misfortunes and seditious matters up to the next Friday, and will be joined with Prophet Muammad, peace be upon him and his Household, and Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him:

allhumma ij`aln min ahli aljannati

O Allah, include me with the inhabitants of Paradise

allat ashwuh albarakatu

whose stuffing is blessing

wa `ummruh almal'ikatu

and whose constructors are the angels

ma`a nabiyyin muammadin

with our Prophet Muammad,

all allhu `alayhi wa lih

peace of Allah be upon him and his Household,

wa abn ibrhma `alayhi alssalmu

and our father Abraham, peace be upon him.

Commenting on this supplication, Shaykh al-s instructs that one who is not from the Holy Prophets offspring should say, his father (abhi) instead of our father (abn).

Twenty-Seventh: It has been narrated that the best hours of Fridays are these coming after the `Ar Prayer. Accordingly, it is recommended to repeat the following invocation one hundred times at that time:

allhumma alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin wa `ajjil farajahum

O Allah, bless Muammad and the Household of Muammad and hasten their Relief.

Adding to this, Shaykh al-s says that it is recommended to repeat the following invocation one hundred times at that time:

alawtu allhi wa mal'ikatih

The blessings of Allah, His angels,

wa anbiy'ih wa rusulih

His prophets, His messengers,

wa jam`i khalqih

and all of His creatures

`al muammadin wa li muammadin

be upon Muammad and the Household of Muammad.

walssalmu `alayhi wa `alayhim

And peace be upon him and upon them

wa `al arwihim wa ajsdihim

and upon their souls and bodies.

wa ramatu allhi wa baraktuhu

So be Allahs mercy and blessings.

The reverent scholar, Ibn Idrs, has quoted in his book entitled al-Sar'ir that it has been recorded in the book of Jmi` complied by al-Bizani on the authority of Ab-Bar that Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) has said: To invoke Almighty Allahs blessings upon the Prophet and his Household in the time between the uhr and `Ar Prayers (on Fridays) is equal (in reward) to seventy times of ajj Pilgrimage. Moreover, one who says the following invocation after the `Ar Prayer on Fridays will be awarded the reward of the righteous deeds of all men and jinn on that day:Mp3

allhumma alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin

O Allah, bless Muammad and the Household of Muammad

al-awiy'i almariyyna

the Successors and the pleased

bi-afali alawtika

with the best of Your blessings,

wa brik `alayhim

and confer upon them

bi-afali baraktika

with the best of your favors.

wa alssalmu `alayhim

And peace be upon them

wa `al arwihim wa ajsdihim

and upon their souls and bodies;

wa ramatu allhi wa baraktuhu

and Allahs mercy and blessings be upon them.

Books of master scholars of adth have authentically narrated great rewards for saying this invocation. However, it is better to repeat it seven times and even ten times. In this respect, Imam Ja`far al-diq (`a) is reported as saying: One who repeats this invocation ten times immediately after the `Ar Prayer on Fridays will receive the blessings of the angels up to the next Friday and the very hour. The Imam (`a) is also reported as saying: When you offer the `Ar Prayer on Friday, repeat this invocation afterward seven times.

In al-Kf, Shaykh al-Kulayn has narrated the following: When you accomplish the `Ar Prayer on Friday, say the following invocation, for if one says it at that time, Almighty Allah will record for him one hundred thousand rewards, erase one hundred thousand of his evildoings, grant him one hundred thousand requests, and elevate him one hundred thousand ranks:

allhumma alli `al muammadin wa li muammadin

O Allah, bless Muammad and the Household of Muammad

al-awy'i almariyyna

the Successors and the pleased

bi-afali alawtika

with the best of Your blessings,

wa brik `alayhim

and confer upon them

bi-afali baraktika

with the best of your favors.

wa alssalmu `alayhi wa `alayhim

And peace be upon him and them

wa ramatu allhi wa baraktuh

and Allahs mercy and blessings be also upon them.

He adds that if one repeats the same invocation seven times, Almighty Allah will give him rewards as many as His servants, accept his deeds on that day, and place light between his eyes on the Resurrection Day.

Later on, we will mention (within the devotional rites on the `Araft Day) a form of invocation of Almighty Allahs  blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household; to say this invocation delights Prophet Muammad and his Householdpeace be upon them all.

Twenty-Eighth: It is recommended to repeat the following  prayer seventy times after the `Ar Prayer so that sins will be forgiven:

astaghfiru allha wa atbu ilayhi

I pray the forgiveness of Allah and I repent before Him.

Twenty-ninth: It is recommended to recite Srah al-Qadr (No. 97) one hundred times. Imam Ms al-Kim (`a) is reported as saying: On Fridays, Almighty Allah has one thousand gifts of mercy. He grants a servant whatever number He wills. Thus, He grants the servant who recites Srah al-Qadr one hundred times after the `Ar Prayer on Fridays all these gifts and their like.

Thirtieth: It is recommended to say the famous supplication known as,Dua Ashraat after Asr .

Thirty-First: Shaykh al-s has mentioned that the last hour of Friday, which lasts to sunset, is the hour in which prayers are responded. Therefore, it is required to pray Almighty Allah insistently at that hour. It has been also narrated that this hour begins when half of the sun disk sets and the other half only remains visible. Lady Fimah al-Zahr', peace be upon her, used to pray at this hour so that her prayers be answered. It is also recommended to say the following that is reported from the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his Household:  Image  JPG

subnaka l ilha ill anta

Glory be to You! There is no god save You!

y annnu y mannnu

O All-tender! O All-bestower!

y bad`a alssamwti wal-ari

O Fashioner of the heavens and the earth!

y dhaljalli wal-ikrmi

O Lord of Majesty and Honor.

It is also recommended to say the famous  prayer known asDua-e-Simaat ( Fri evening before sunset)

It is worth mentioning that Friday has relationship with Imam al-Mahdmay Allah hasten his adventfrom several aspects. On Friday, Imam al-Mahd was born and on Friday, his delightful advent shall be. Hence, to expect Relief on Friday should be more intense than other days. In Imam al-Mahds private Ziyrah on Fridays that will be mentioned later on in this book, the following statement is mentioned:

hdh yawmu aljumu`ati

Today is Friday,

wa huwa yawmuka almutawaqqa`u fhi uhruka

which is your day on which we expect your advent

walfaraju fhi lilmu'minna `al yadika

that will bring about relief to the believers at your hands.

In fact, Friday has been decided as feast day just because it is the day on which Imam al-Mahd (atfs) will reappear in order to purify the entire earth from the filth of polytheism and atheism and from the dirt of acts of disobedience to Almighty Allah and from sins. He shall also annihilate the tyrants, the infidels, and the hypocrites. Thus, true believers shall be delighted and their hearts shall be tranquil since the Word of Truth shall prevail over all things and the true religion and creed shall be the dominant. On that day, too, the earth shall beam with the Light of its Lord. In view of that, it is highly recommended to say the major invocation of blessings upon the Holy Prophet and the Ahl al-Bayt. It is also highly advisable to say the supplication that Imam `Al ibn Ms al-Ri (`a) advised to be said for the sake of Imam al-Mahd, peace be upon him. The supplication,

allhumma idfa` `an waliyyika

O Allah, defend Your friend

wa khalfatika wa ujjatika `al khalqika

and representativea decisive argument for humankind

It is also recommended to say the supplication that Shaykh Ab-`Amr al-`Amr dictated to Ab-`Al ibn Hammm and advised him to say it during the Occultation of Imam al-Mahd, peace be upon him. Because this book is intended to be as brief as possible, this long supplication will be omitted. Yet, the gentle reader may find it, as well as the previously mention major invocation of blessings upon the Holy Prophet and the Ahl al-Bayt, in the books of Mib al-Mutahajjid and Jaml al-Usb`.

It is also necessary not to overlook the famous invocation of blessings upon the Holy Prophet and the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, that is ascribed to Abul-asan al-arrb al-Ifahn. Shaykh al-s and Sayyid Ibn ws have included this famous invocation with the recommended rites of Friday afternoons. Confirming its significance and writing down the series of its reporters, Sayyid Ibn ws adds, This invocation is reported from our master Imam al-Mahd, peace be upon him. So, if you have to neglect all the post-prayer litanies on Friday, try not to overlook this invocation for a matter that Almighty Allah has shown to me.

As for Shaykh al-s, he says, This invocation is reported from the Patron of the Age, Imam al-Mahd, peace be upon him. It was shown to Abul-asan al-arrb in Makkah.

([1]) l bishay'in min l'ika rabbi ukadhdhibu.

([2]) `Allmah al-Majlis says that yah al-Kurs in the form of revelation, according to the narration of `Al ibn Ibrhm and Shaykh al-Kulayn, is as follows:

Allah is He besides Whom there is no god, the Ever-living, the Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep; whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth (and what is between them two and what is beneath the ground) is His; (the Knower of the unseen and the seen; the Beneficent, the Merciful); Who is he that can intercede with Him but by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except what He pleases, His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of them both tires Him not, and He is the Most High, the Great. There is no compulsion in religion; truly, the right way has become clearly distinct from error; therefore, whoever disbelieves in Satan and believes in Allah he indeed has laid hold on the firmest handle, which shall not break off, and Allah is Hearing, Knowing. Allah is the guardian of those who believe. He brings them out of the darkness into the light; and (as to) those who disbelieve, their guardians are Shaitans who take them out of the light into the darkness; they are the inmates of the fire, in it they shall abide.

Translators Note: This does not mean that yah al-Kurs was revealed in this very form; rather, it means that one may say these additional phrases while reciting these holy verses. Verily, the Holy Qur'n is free from any decrease, addition, or distortion, because it is Almighty Allah Who has promised to guard it from all distortion:

$R) `twU $uZ9tR u.e%!$# $R)ur ms9 tbqutm:
