MERITS OF VISITING

Through an authentic chain of authority, Shaykh al-s has reported on the authority of Muammad ibn Muslim that Imam al-diq (a) said, Almighty Allah has not created a category of creatures bigger in number than angels. Verily, seventy thousand angels descend everyday to circumambulate the Much-Frequented Fane. Then, they circumambulate the Holy Ka`bah. Then, they visit the tomb of the Holy Prophet () to greet him. Then, they visit the tomb of Imam `Al Amr al-Mu'minn (a) to greet him. Then, they visit the tomb of Imam al-usayn (a) to greet him. They then ascend back to the skies. Everyday and up to the Resurrection Day, such a number of angels descend and do the same thing. Verily, if one visits Amr al-Mu'minn (i.e. the Comamnder of the Believers) with full recognition of his right([1]) and being neither arrogant nor conceited, Almighty Allah shall decide for him the reward of one hundred thousand martyrs, forgive his past and coming sins, include him with the secured group (on the Resurrection Day), and make easy for him the calling to account; and he will be received be the angels. As he returns home (after ziyrah), these angels will visit him when he is ill. When he dies, these angels will follow him to his grave, imploring Almighty Allahs forgiveness for him.

In his book entitled Farat al-Ghar, Sayyid `Abd al-Karm ibn ws has reported the following saying from Imam al-diq (a), too:

As for one who visits the tomb of Amr al-Mu'minn (a) walking, Almighty Allah shall verily decide for him the reward of one ajj and one `umrah. If he returns walking, Almighty Allah shall decide for him the reward of two times of ajj and two time of `umrah.

Likewise, Imam al-diq (a) is reported to have said to Ibn Mrid, As for any one who visits the tomb of my grandfather with recognition of his right, Almighty Allah shall decide for him the reward of acceptable ajj and admissible `umrah. Ibn Mrid, I swear by Allah that He shall never give to Hellfire a foot that was dusted in the course of visiting Amr al-Mu'minn, being walking or riding. Ibn Mrid, write down this saying with golden ink.

Imam al-diq (a) is also reported as saying, We confirm that there is a grave near al-Kfah; Almighty Allah shall definitely heal any handicapped person who has recourse to it.

In the word of authorized narrations, Almighty Allah has decided the tombs of Imam `Al (`a) and his immaculate descendants to be shelters for the fearful, refuges for the depressed, and secure places for the inhabitants of the earth. Certainly, any aggrieved person who visits these tombs, Almighty Allah shall definitely relieve him. Any ailed person who visits them, Almighty Allah shall heal him. Any seeker of security who seeks it at these tombs, Almighty Allah shall grant him security.

Sayyid `Abd al-Karm ibn ws has reported the following story on the authority of Muammad ibn `Al al-Shaybn:

I was a child when, one day in the year 260 (AH), my father, uncle, and I went out secretly directing to al-Ghar for visiting the tomb of Amr al-Mu'minn (a). At that time, the tomb was not constructed but surrounded by black stones. At the time that we were reciting Qur'n, offering prayers, and reciting the Ziyrah form, a lion came in the direction of us. When he approached us, we moved back. The lion came to the tomb and passed its wounded foreleg over it. Fear vanished when we were told about this scene; therefore, we all approached to see the lion, which kept on doing so for a while and then left. We then returned to the tomb.

Shaykh al-Mufd also related the following story:

One day, Hrn, the `Abbsid ruler, went out for hunting. As he approached al-Ghar neighborhood, he saw a group of antelopes there. He thus ordered hawks and hounds to be set for chasing them. For a while, these hawks and hounds chased the antelopes, but when the antelopes would resort to a hillock, these chasing animals would stop. This process was repeated more than once before the eyes of Hrn who, upon seeing this, ordered his retinue to bring to him the eldest man in al-Kfah. An old man from Ban-Asad, a famous tribe, came. Hence, Hrn asked him about the secret beyond that hillock.

Do you pledge my security if I answer your question? demanded the old man.

I vow by Allah that I will not hurt you, pledged the ruler.

The man then said, My father told me that his fathers used to say that this hillock contained the tomb of `Al ibn Ab-lib; therefore, Allah made it a secured shelter for any one that resorts to it. Here, the story ends.

More zealous than the protector of the locusts; this is a famous Arab proverb that is cited for describing ones readiness to protect someone or something. This proverb is taken from the story of Mudlaj ibn Suwayd, a man belonging to the tribe of ayy, who was at his tent when some people came to him carrying baskets. When he asked them for explanation, they told that they came to collect a swarm of locusts that fell on his land. Immediately, he rode his horse and took his lance in the hand, threatening them by saying, How dare you collect the locust that came to my vicinity seeking my shelter? He therefore positioned there watching and guarding these locusts until they left his land after the land had become hot due to sunlight. He thus said, Now, you may follow that swarm of locusts after they have left my land.

A similar story, the author of al-Qms relates that Dhul-A`wd was an Arab chief who, claimed to be the grandfather of Aktham ibn ayf. He used to levy taxes from the tribe of Muar, one of the major Arab tribes. Carried on a throne, he used to visit the Arab tribes to collect levies. He was such a respected and cherished personality that any fearful one who restored to his throne would be granted security, any humiliated one who approached his throne would be fortified, and any hungry one who came to his throne would be fed etc.

In view of that, if a throne of an Arab man could attain such honor and sublimity, then it is not strange that Almighty Allah decides the tombs of His intimate servants, especially those whose cradles were carried by the Archangels Gabriel and Michael; namely, Imam al-asan and Imam al-usayn, to be shelters for the fearful, sanctuaries for the fugitive, refuges for the depressed, and remedy for the ailed.

Wherever you are, dear reader, try to reach the holy tomb of Imam `Al (a), to stick to it by all strength, and to implore persistently there so that he may aid and save you from perdition in this world as well as the Next World.

It seems suitable to cite these verses on this occasion:

If you avail yourself of his magnanimity, you will find him the leader

of redemption for the disobedient ones on the Day of Meeting,

Receptive for those who hope for him, responsive,

and listening even to their confidential speeches.

In the book of Dr al-Islm, it is reported, on the authority of Shaykh al-Daylam on the authority of a group of righteous people of al-Najaf, that a man saw in dream that many lines were extended from the tombs inside and outside the holy shrine of Imam `Al (a) to connect to the dome. When the man woke up, he composed the following poetic verses:

When I die, lay me in the vicinity of aydar.([2])

Excellent is he! The father of Shubbar and Shubayr.([3])

I then will not fear the Fire next to him

and I will not panic about the interrogation of Munkar and Nakr.([4])

It will be shameful on the Protector of the neighborhood

if a single camel will be lost in his neighborhood.

Shaykh al-Mufd, al-Shahd, Sayyid Ibn ws, and others have mentioned the following form of Ziyrah:

As you are determined to visit the tomb of Imam `Al (a), you should bathe yourself, put on two clean pieces of dress, and use a perfume, even though it is acceptable without it. While you are about to leave your house, you may say the following:

allhumma inn kharajtu min manzil abgh falaka

O Allah, I leave my house seeking Your bounties

in the best manner of taking place.

y arama alrrimna

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

You may then proceed, extolling Almighty Allah with the following doxology:

All praise be to Allah.

alamdu lillhi

All glory be to Allah.

subna allhi

There is no god but Allah.

l ilha ill allhu

Once you reach the trench of al-Kfah, you may stop there and say the following words:

allhu akbaru allhu akbaru

Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great.

ahla alkibriy'i walmajdi wal`aamati

Allah is Greater than what I fear and what I worry about.

O Allah, You are indeed the source of my blessings

fa'as'aluka bimuammadin almuaf

I therefore beseech You in the name of Muammad, the Chosen Prophet,

alladh qaa`ta bih ujaja almutajjna

through whom You have stopped all the claims of those who may excuse

wa `udhra almu`tadhirna

and the pretexts of those who may make apologies

wa ja`altah ramatan lil`lamna

and whom You have decided to be mercy to the peoples,

an l tariman thawba ziyrati waliyyika

(I beseech You) not to deprive me of the rewards of my visiting Your intimate servant,

wa akh nabiyyika amri almu'minna wa qadah

the brother of Your Prophet, and the Commander of the Believers and my directing to him,

wa taj`alan min wafdih allina

and to include me with the virtuous delegation to him

wa sh`atih almuttaqna

and with his pious adherents;

biramatika y arama alrrimna

(I beseech for that) in the name of Your mercy, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

Once your eyes fall on the holy dome, say these words:

alamdu lillhi `al m ikhtaan bih

All praise be to Allah, for He has conferred upon me exclusively

the best of all, and the most knowledgeable.

allhumma fataqabbal sa`y ilayka

O Allah, (please do) accept my seeking for You

wa taarru` bayna yadayka

and my earnest imploration in Your Presence

waghfir liya aldhdhunba allat l takhf `alayka

and (please do) forgive my sins that cannot be hidden from You.

innaka anta allhu almaliku alghaffru

Verily, You are Allah, the King, the All-forgiving.

As soon as the sight of the z'ir, especially the learnt and righteous, falls on the luminous dome of Imam `Als holy shrine, he/she feels active and delightful; and love and loyalty begins arousing in his heart, making he/her try to turn to the Imam (a) with full heart and to praise and commend him in all languages and styles, and to find suitable poetic verses through which he/she can express his/her actual feelings. I therefore deem suitable to cite the following poetic verses excerpted from the famous poem of al-Azr, hoping that the gentle z'ir, being at this situation, will convey my greetings to the owner of that dome and will not exclude from those for whom he prays:

O hasty driver, slow down! Have compassion on hearts that are turned over in tense emotions.

If the land of al-Ghar shows itself to you, then yield and take off your shoes facing the like of Tuwa Valley.

If you behold the dome of the Upper World covered by the lights of its Lord,

then be unassuming, for there lies a halo of holiness that even the highest stars wish to kiss its soil.

Say to him, while your tears are like pouring agate and your bowels being blazed by their fire:

O Prophets cousin, you are the Hand of Allah Whose bounty has included all things.

You are His Eternal Qur'n and your attributes are the Verses that He has revealed.

Allah has favored you in untold merits that are as countless as numbers.

May an eye that grazes from a garden other than yours be deeply injured and be kept in injury.

After the Prophet, you are the best of beings, and the best thing in the sky is the moon.

You have a self that is as same as his. Had your selves been different, he would not have united them in fraternity.

You and he were fed from the same breast of connection whose drink was made of the Essence of Manifestation.

O Chosen Prophets brother, I have had sins just like motes in my eye, and you are the remedy.

In the scale of elevation and altitude, you enjoy such high levels that even the lowest of which cannot be attained.

You enjoy a soul that was made from the core of fineness. May Allah make all souls ransoms for it.

When you reach at the fortress of Najaf (in al-najaf), you may say the following words:

alamdu lillhi alladh hadn lihdh

All praise be to Allah Who has guided us to this;

wa m kunn linahtadiya lawl an hadn allhu

and we would not have found the way had it not been that Allah had guided us.

alamdu lillhi alladh sayyaran f bildih

All praise be to Allah Who has made me travel in His countries,

wa amalan `al dawbbih

Who has caused me to ride His animals,

wa aw liya alba`da

Who has made the distant space seem near for me,

wa arafa `anniya almadhra

Who has kept away from me what is dangerous,

wa dafa`a `anniya almakrha

and Who has held off against me what is unwanted

all allhu `alayhi wa lih

peace be upon him and his Household.

You may then enter the city, saying:

alamdu lillhi alladh adkhalan hdhih albuq`at almubrakata

All praise be to Allah Who has allowed me to enter this blessed zone,

allat braka allhu fh

which Allah has blessed

and has chosen for His Prophets Successor.

allhumma faj`alh shhidatan l

O Allah, (please do) make this zone witness for me.

When you reach at the first doorstep, you may say the following:

allhumma bibbika waqaftu

O Allah, I have stopped at Your door,

wa bifin'ika nazaltu

I have come to Your court,

wa biablika i`taamtu

to Your Cord do I cling,

wa liramatika ta`arratu

Your mercy do I seek,

wa biwaliyyika alawtuka `alayhi tawassaltu

and by Your Intimate Servantmay Your blessings be upon himdo I beg You.

So, (please do) make it an admissible visit

wa du`'an mustajban

and a responded supplication.

You may then stop at the gate of the courtyard, saying the following:

allhumma inna hdh alarama aramuka

O Allah, this holy place is verily Yours,

walmaqma maqmuka

this situation is Yours,

and I am entering here so as to confide to You

things that You are more knowledgeable than I am

as well as You are more knowledgeable than I am as regards my secrets and my confidential speech.

y waliyya aldduny wal-khirati

O Supreme Sovereign of the world and the Hereafter

In Mib al-Z'ir, Sayyid Ibn ws has mentioned another supplication that is advisably said after Ziyrah of Imam `Al (a). As a matter of fact, this supplication is the same as the  prayer known as Du`' `Alqamah (also known as Du`' afwn), which will be cited in this book immediately after the famous Ziyrah of `shr'. This   prayer begins with this statement:

y allhu y allhu y allhu

O Allah! O Allah! O Allah!

y mujba da`wati almuarrna

O He who gives answer to the cries of the persecuted

It is also recommended to recite ziarat of Imam al-usayn (a) from the tomb of Imam `Al (a). In the two books of al-Was'il and al-Mustadrak, an entire chapter has been dedicated to mentioning the forms of such Ziyrah.

The author of al-Mustadrak has reported from the book of al-Mazr by Muammad ibn al-Mashhad that Imam al-diq (a) recited ziarah of Imam al-usayn (a) while he was at the heads side of the tomb of Imam `Al (a) where he offered four units of prayer and said the following form of Ziyrah:

alssalmu `alayka yabna rasli allhi

Peace be upon you, O son of Allahs Messenger.

alssalmu `alayka yabna amri almu'minna

Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful.

alssalmu `alayka yabna aliddqati alhirati

Peace be upon you, O son of the veracious and pure

sayyidati nis'i al`lamna

doyenne of all women of the world.

alssalmu `alayka y mawlya y ab `abdillhi

Peace be upon you, O my master, Ab-`Abdullh.

wa ramatu allhi wa baraktuh

So be upon you Allahs mercy and blessings.

ashhadu annaka qad aqamta alalta

I bear witness that you offered the prayers,

wa tayta alzzakta

gave alms (zakt),

wa amarta bilma`rfi

you enjoined the right,

wa nahayta `an almunkari

wa talawta alkitba aqqa tilwatih

wa jhadta f allhi aqqa jihdih

strove for the sake of Allah as it ought to be striven,

wa abarta `al aladh f janbih

and stood harm for His sake,

mutasiban att atka alyaqnu

seeking His reward, until death came upon you.

wa ashhadu anna alladhna khlafka wa rabka

And I witness that those who dissented with you, those who fought against you,

wa anna alladhna khadhalka walladhna qatalka

those who disappointed you, and those who slew you

mal`nna `al lisni alnnabiyyi al-ummiyyi

all those are accused in the words of the Ummi (i.e. inhabitant of Umm al-Qur, Makkah) Prophet.

wa qad khba man iftar

And the forger must suffer frustration!

la`ana allhu allimna lakum

May Allah curse those who prosecuted you

min al-awwalna wal-khirna

from the past and the coming generations

wa `afa `alayhim al`adhba al-alma

and may He double for them the painful chastisement.

ataytuka y mawlya yabna rasli allhi

O my master and son of Allahs Messenger,

I have come visiting you and recognizing your status,

showing loyalty to your adherents,

mu`diyan li-a`d'ika

incurring the hostility of your enemies,

mustabiran bilhud alladh anta `alayhi

acknowledging the true guidance that you follow,

and understanding the deviation (from the right path) of any one who disagrees with you.

fashfa` l `inda rabbika

So, (please) intercede for me with your Lord.

It is appropriate to say this form of Ziyrah of Imam al-usayns tomb from the the mosque known as Masjid al-annnah, for Shaykh Muammad ibn al-Mashhad has reported that Imam Ja`far al-diq (a) said this form of Ziyrah at this mosque and then offered a four unit prayer there.

It goes without saying that Masjid al-annnah is one of the honorable mosques of the holy city of Najaf. It has been also narrated that the head of Imam al-usayn (a) is buried at that mosque.

It has been also narrated that after Imam al-diq (a) has accomplished a two unit prayer at this mosque, he was asked about the prayer. This is the place where they put the head of my grandfather, al-usayn ibn `Al, when they brought it from Karbal', answered the Imam (a). From here, they took the head to `Ubaydullh ibn Ziyd, he added.

It has been further narrated that Imam al-diq (a) advised that the following prayer would be said at this mosque:

allhumma innaka tar makn

O Allah, You can see my place,

wa tasma`u kalm

hear my speech,

wa l yakhf `alayka shay'un min amr

and nothing of my affairs can ever conceal itself from You.

wa kayfa yakhf `alayka m anta mukawwinuh wa bri'uh

How come a thing that You have created and made conceal itself from You?

wa qad ji'tuka mustashfi`an binabiyyika nabiyyi alrramati

I have come to you seeking the intercession of Your Prophetthe Prophet of Mercy,

wa mutawassilan biwaiyyi raslika

and seeking the mediation of Your Prophets successor.

fa-as'aluka bihim thabta alqadami walhud

So, I beseech You in the name of both of them to grant me firmness, true guidance,

walmaghfirata f aldduny wal-khirati

and forgiveness in this world as well as the world to come.

Second form of Ziarat;
Ziarat of Ameenullah (The Trustee of Allah)  ALso see THIS

The Ziyrah of Amnullh is highly esteemed as is cited in all books of Ziyrah. In the word of `Allmah al-Majlis, this form is the best in text and chain of authority. It is recommended to say it at all of the holy shrines.

Through considerable chain of authority, it is narrated on the authority of Jbir (ibn `Abdullh al-Anr) on the authority of Imam al-Bqir (a) that Imam Zayn al-`bidn (a), once, visited the holy tomb of Imam `Al (a). He stood at the tomb, wept, and pronounced the following words:

alssalmu `alayka y amna allhi f arih

Peace be upon you, O trustee of Allah on His lands

wa ujjatah `al `ibdih

and argument of Allah against His servants.

alssalmu `alayka y amra almu'minna

Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful.

ashhadu annaka jhadta f allhi aqqa jihdih

I bear witness that you strove for the sake of Allah as it ought to be striven,

wa `amilta bikitbih

acted upon His Book,

wattba`ta sunana nabiyyih

and followed the instructions of His Prophet,

all allhu `alayhi wa lih

peace of Allah be upon him and his Household,

att da`ka allhu il jiwrih

until Allah called you to be in His vicinity.

faqabaaka ilayhi bikhtiyrih

So, He grasped you to Him by His will

wa alzama a`d'aka alujjata

and put your enemies under the claim

although you have inclusive claims against all of His creatures.

mufriqatan li'akhlqi a`d'ika

quitting the conducts of Your enemies,

mashghlatan `an aldduny biamdika wa than'ika

The Imam (a) then put his cheek on the tomb and said:

Verily, You have power over all things.

Imam al-Bqir (a) then added, Indeed, any one of our adherents (Sh`ah) who pronounces these words at the tomb of Amr al-Mu'minn (a) or the tomb of one of the Imams (a) shall certainly have his prayer lifted up on a ladder of light, carrying the seal of the Holy Prophets ring, and it shall be kept so until it will be delivered to the Riser from Muammads Household (namely, Imam al-Mahd) who will receive the sayer of that prayer with good tidings, greetings, and honor.

It is worth mentioning that the Ziyrah of Amnullh is considered one of the general forms of Ziyrah of Imam `Al (a), one of the private forms of Ziyrah on the `d al-Ghadr Day, and one of the comprehensive forms of Ziyrah that can be said at all the shrines of the Holy Imams.

Third form of Ziyarah       PPT  PPT in PDF

Sayyid `Abd al-Karm ibn ws has reported the following from afwn al-Jamml:

During my journey with him to al-Kfah for meeting Ab-Ja`far al-Manr the `Abbsid ruler, Imam Ja`far al-diq (a) asked me to make our camels kneel down at a certain place, saying, This is the tomb of my grandfather, the Commander of the Faithful.

As I made the camels kneel down there, he rode off, bathed himself, changed his clothes, took off his shoes, and ordered me to imitate him in everything. He then directed towards the hillock of Najaf (al-dhakwah), saying, If you walk in short steps and nod your head to the ground, you shall be given one hundred thousand rewards for each step, one hundred thousand sins shall be erased from your sins, you shall be elevated one hundred thousand ranks, one hundred thousand of your requests shall be granted, and you shall be granted the rewards of all veracious individuals who died and all martyrs whom were slain.

Imam al-diq (a) then walked with tranquility and gravity, and I followed him, pronouncing statements of glorification and sanctification of Almighty Allah and confession of His Oneness until we reached the hillocks there. He stopped there, looked to the right and the left, sketched something on the ground with his stick, and asked me to look for the signs of the tomb. As I did, I could notice the traces of the tomb of Imam `Al (a). Imam al-diq (a) immediately shed tears down his face and said these words:

inn lillhi wa inn ilayhi raji`na

To Allah we belong and to Him is our return.

Imam al-diq (a) then threw himself on the tomb and said these words:

bi'ab anta wa umm y amr almu'minna

wa `al al-a'immati min ba`dika

and upon the Imams who came after you!

Imam al-diq (a) then stood up and offered a number of units of prayer at the side of the Imams head. He then said to me (i.e. afwn), Whoever visits Amr al-Mu'minn with this form of Ziyrah and then offers the like of this prayer shall return home while all his sins are forgiven, all his efforts are accepted, and will have the rewards of all the angels who visit this tomb recorded for him.

I asked, Do you mean the reward of all the angels who visit this tomb?

The Imam (a) answered, Yes, I do. Each night, this tomb is visited by seventy thousand tribes of angels.

How many is a tribe of angels? asked I.

Each tribe consists of one hundred thousand angels, answered the Imam (a).

The Imam (a) then left the place waling back but his face was still to the grave direction, uttering the following words:

y jaddhu y sayyidhu

O grandfather! O master!

and upon the angels surrounding you!

I then said to him, O master! May I inform our acquaintances in al-Kfah about this and lead them to this tomb?

The Imam (a) answered in the affirmative and gave me a sum of money to construct the tomb.

and you have verily enjoyed a high status and intercession with Allah.

Allah, the All-exalted, has said (in this respect), And they do not intercede except for him whom He accepts.

Sixth form of Ziarat

The following form of Ziyrah has been mentioned by a number of our scholars among whom is Shaykh Muammad ibn al-Mashhad who quotes that Muammad ibn Khlid al-aylis has reported Sayf ibn `Umayrah to have related the following:

A group of our acquaintances and I accompanied afwn al-Jamml to al-Ghar for the purpose of visiting the tomb of Amr al-Mu'minn (a). When we accomplished ziyrah, afwn turned his face toward the tomb of Imam al-usayn (a) and instructed that we should visit Imam al-usayn ibn `Al (a) from this place at the heads side of Imam `Als tomb. He then told us that he, once, accompanied Imam al-diq (a) to this very place where the Imam (a) did the same thing that afwn had just done and said the same supplication. afwn added, The Imam (a) then advised me to persist in this method and form of Ziyrah and to visit Imam `Al and Imam al-usayn (a) with this form, for he would guarantee, on behalf of Almighty Allah, that any one who visits them with this form of ziyrah and says this supplication, be it from close or far distance, will have his ziyrah accepted, his efforts rewarded, his greetings conveyed (to the Imams) without any barrier, and his requests granted by Almighty Allah whatever they are.

The entire text of this narration about the merits of saying this form of ziyrah, along with all of its etiquettes, and saying this supplication will be cited after the famous form known as Ziyrah of `shr' and the famous prayer known as Du`' `Alqamah (also called Du`' afwn).

Hereinafter, the form of this ziyrah is cited:

You may face the tomb of Imam `Al (a) and say the following words:

alssalmu `alayka y rasla allhi

(I beseech You) in the name of Your mercy, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

Then, you may pray Almighty Allah to grant you your personal requests, bid farewell to the Imam (a), and leave.

In his book of Farat al-Ghar, Sayyid `Abd al-Karm ibn ws has reported that when Imam Zayn al-`bidn (a) visited al-Kfah city and entered the famous mosque therein, he offered a two-unit prayer and then uttered a  prayer. Ab-amzah al-Thuml, one of the chiefs and ascetic people of al-Kfah, narrated that he heard an excellent accent from the Imam (a); he therefore approached him to listen to what he was saying. The Imam (a) thus was saying the famous  prayer that begins with the following statement:

ilh in kuntu qad `aaytuka

O my God, If I have disobeyed You,

fa'inn qad aa`tuka f aabbi al-ashy'i ilayka

I have indeed obeyed You in the nearest thing to You

This famous  prayer will be mentioned in the coming chapter of the Recommended Acts in al-Kfah Mosque.([6])

Back to the narration, Ab-amzah al-Thuml continued: The Imam (a) then left and I followed him. At the public stall of the city, I found a black servant holding the reins of a camel and a she-camel. When I asked him about the man, the servant answered, Do you really not know him? Have you not realized him from his noble characters? He is `Al the son of al-usayn, peace be upon both of them.

Immediately, I threw myself on the Imams feet kissing them. The Imam (a) raised my head with his hand and said, No, Ab-amzah! Prostration must be done to none except Almighty Allah.

I said, Son of Allahs Messenger, what has caused you to come to us?

The Imam (a) answered, As you have seen (I came here to offer prayers at the al-Kfah Mosque). If people realize the great favor that is obtained due to visiting this mosque, they shall visit it even crawling.

The Imam (a) then offered me to accompany him for visiting the tomb of his grandfather, Imam `Al ibn Ab-lib (a).

I, of course, responded. Hence, I walked in the shadow of his riding camel while listening to his words until we arrived in al-Ghariyyayn (i.e. Najaf), which was a white area that shone with light. The Imam (a) then rode off the camel, rolled his cheeks with the soil of that area, and said, Ab-amzah, this is the tomb of my grandfather, `Al ibn Ab-lib.

The Imam (a) then visited Imam `Al (a) with a form of ziyrah that begins with the following statement:

alssalmu `al ismi allhi alrraiyyi

Peace be upon the pleased name of Allah

wa nri wajhih almu'i

and the light of His Brilliant Face

The Imam (a) then bid farewell and returned to al-Madnah, while I also returned to al-Kfah.

Unfortunately, the author of Farat al-Ghariyy has not mentioned this form of ziyrah; therefore, I, the author of this book, have searched for it in all forms of ziyrah that are decided for Imam `Als holy shrine, but I could not find any one beginning with the aforementioned statement except this one, which begins with the same statement but differs from it in the second statement. However, it is probable that this form of ziyrah is the same as the one Imam Zayn al-`bidn (a) said, because such insignificant difference between the two is usually disregarded.

Some people may object that there is another difference between the two forms of ziyrah, since the earlier begins with salmullhi wa salmu malikatih etc. while the latter begins with al-salmu `alasmil-lhir-raiyyi etc.

To answer, the statement that precedes the one involved is regarded as form of asking for permission to enter (istidhn), while the form of the ziyrah begins with the statement involved. Our evidence on this claim proves itself when a comparison between this form of ziyrah and the other form, which is dedicated to the birthday of Imam `Al (a) is made, since these two forms are similar to great extent. Hence, please refer to the form involved so that you will discover the difference yourself.

Besides, the same opening statement of this form of ziyrah is mentioned in the beginning of the sixth form and the form that is dedicated to the birthday of the Imam (a), with little difference in the second sentence.

To sum it up, I will mention no more general forms of ziyrah of Imam `Als holy shrine, since these seven forms are enough. However, one who desires for more may refer to the all-comprehensive forms of ziyrah (i.e. al-ziyrah al-Jmi`ah) as well as the following form, which is dedicated to the Ghadr Day.

A z'ir must seize the opportunity of his/her presence in the holy shrine of Imam `Al (a) to offer as many prayers as possible, for one prayer in that place is equal (in reward) to two hundred thousand prayers that are offered at other places. Imam al-diq (a) is reported to have said, One who offers a four-unit prayer at the tomb of an obligatorily obeyed Imam shall have the reward of one time of ajj and one time of `umrah.

Furthermore, in my book of Hadiyyat al-Z'ir, I have alluded to the reward of being in the vicinity of Imam `Als tomb. I have also concentrated on the point that it is obligatory to observe ones neighborhood, which is a difficult duty that can be hardly carried out. However, to elaborate on this matter leads us to lengthiness; therefore, one who desires to read about this matter is advised to see the book of Kelimeh Teyyibeh that is published in Persian.

Bidding Farewell to Imam `Al (a)

One who intends to leave the holy shrine of Imam `Al (a) may say the following form of bidding farewell, which has been mentioned by the scholars after the previously cited fifth form of ziyrah:

alssalmu `alayka wa ramatu allhi wa baraktuh

Peace and Allahs mercy and blessings be upon you.

astawdi`uka allha wa astar`ka wa aqra'u `alayka alssalma

I entrust you with Allah and ask Him to keep you under His custody and to send blessings upon you.

mann billhi wa bilrrusuli wa bim j'at bih

We believe in Allah, in the Messengers, and in what they have conveyed to us,

wa da`at ilayhi wa dallat `alayhi

in that to which they have called, and in that to which they have guided.

faktubn ma`a alshshhidna

So, (please, our Lord,) include us with the witnesses.

allhumma l taj`alhu khira al`ahdi min ziyrat iyyhu

O Allah, (please) do not decide this visit of mine to him (i.e. the Imam) to be the last,

fa'in tawaffaytan qabla dhlika

and if you cause me to die before that,

fa'inn ashhadu f mamt

then I bear witness in my death

`al m shahidtu `alayhi f ayt

to the same things to which I have born witness in my lifetime:

ashhadu anna amra almu'minna `aliyyan

I bear witness that `Al the Commander of the Faithful,

walasana walusayna

and al-asan, al-usayn,

`Al ibn al-usayn,

Muammad ibn `Al,

wa ja`fara bna muammadin

Ja`far ibn Muammad,

`Al ibn Ms,

wa muammada bna `aliyyin

Muammad ibn `Al,

wa `aliyya bna muammadin

`Al ibn Muammad,

walasana bna `aliyyin

al-asan ibn `Al,

walujjata bna alasani

and al-ujjah (the Argument of Allah) ibn al-asan

alawtuka `alayhim ajma`na a'immat

may Your blessings be upon all of themare my Imams.

wa ashhadu anna man qatalahum wa rabahum mushrikna

I also bear witness that all of those who have slain and fought against them are polytheists

wa man radda `alayhim f asfali darakin min aljami

and that all of those who reject them shall be in the lowest class of Hellfire.

wa ashhadu anna man rabahum lan a`d'un

I also bear witness that those who have fought against the Imams are our enemies

wa nanu minhum bur'u

and we disavow them,

wa annahum izbu alshshayni

because they are indeed the party of Satan.

The curse of Allah, His angels and all the peoples be upon those who killed the Imams,

wa man sharika fhim wa man sarrah qatluhum

and upon those who had any role in killing them and those who were pleased for their having been killed.

allhumma inn as'aluka ba`da alalati walttaslmi

O Allah, as I begin with invoking Your peace and blessings upon them,

an tualliya `al muammadin wa `aliyyin

I pray you to bless Muammad, `Al,

wa fimata walasani walusayni

Fimah, al-asan, al-usayn,

wa `aliyyin wa muammadin wa ja`farin wa ms

`Al, Muammad, Ja`far, Ms,

wa `aliyyin wa muammadin wa `aliyyin walasani walujjati

`Al, Muammad, `Al, al-asan, and al-ujjah,
