 Supplication for Protection of Crops

This supplication has been set out in "Iddatul Dai' for the protection of famers from animals who would destroy fruit or crop. It should be written on four pieces of cloth or paper and placed on four sides of the farm:

MANNERS AND TAHARA IN THE TOILET

14

PROPHETS  DU~ª WHEN HE ENTERED THE WASHROOM

Etiquettes of Going to Toilet

If you wish to offer a prayer and need to go to toilet, you may begin with the latter. There are many reported etiquettes of going to toilet. However, I will hereinafter mention some of them briefly:

You may precede your left foot to the right when entering the water closet (or the place where you excrete) and say the following:

bismill¡hi wa bill¡hi

In the Name of Allah (I begin) and in Allah (I trust).

a`£dhu bill¡hi min alrrijsi alnnajisi

I pray Allah’s protection against the filthy, the impure,

alkhab¢thi almukhbithi

the wicked, and the source of wickedness;

alshshay§¡ni alrraj¢mi

namely, Satan the accursed.

When you try to take off, you may utter the basmalah:

bismill¡hi alrra¦m¡ni alrra¦¢mi

In the Name of Allah; the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

At such a situation, and all similar situations, you must try to cover your private parts, letting nobody see them. It is ¦ar¡m (i.e. religiously unlawful) to sit, for excretion, facing the kiblah direction or giving it one’s back.

While excreting, it is recommended to say the following:

all¡humma a§`imn¢ §ayyiban f¢ `¡fiyatin

O Allah, (please) nourish me pleasant food in wellbeing

wa akhrijhu minn¢ khab¢than f¢ `¡fiyatin

and make me excrete it repulsive in wellbeing.

If your sight falls on the excrement, you may say the following:

all¡humma urzuqn¢ al¦al¡la

O Allah, (please) provide me with the legally gotten (sustenance)

wa jannibn¢ al¦ar¡ma

and keep me away from the illegally gotten.

When you finish and want to clean yourself, you may first of all try to make sure that you have discharged the entire waste. Then, you may say the supplicatory prayer that is said when one’s eye falls on water:

al¦amdu lill¡hi alladh¢ ja`ala alm¡'a §ah£ran

All praise be to Allah Who has made water pure

wa lam yaj`alhu najisan

but has not made it impure.

While cleaning yourself from the waste, you may say the following:

all¡humma ¦a¥¥in farj¢ wa a`iffah£

O Allah, make me guard my chastity, chasten me,

wastur `awrat¢

cover my private parts,

wa ¦arrimn¢ `al¡ alnn¡ri

and forbid Hellfire from consuming me.

When you finish and stand up, you may rub your abdomen with your right hand and say the following:

al¦amdu lill¡hi alladh¢ am¡§a `anniya al-adh¡

All praise be to Allah Who has warded off harm from me,

wa hanna'an¢ §a`¡m¢ wa shar¡b¢

made me find the pleasure of my food and drink,

wa `¡f¡n¢ min albalw¡

and freed me from plague.

You may then leave the water closet (or the place where you have excreted), preceding your right foot to the left and saying the following:

al¦amdu lill¡hi alladh¢ `arrafan¢ ladhdhatah£

All praise be to Allah Who has made me find its pleasure,

wa abq¡ f¢ jasad¢ quwwatah£

kept in my body its power,

wa akhraja `ann¢ adh¡hu

and discharged its harm from me.

lah¡ ni`matan

How a pleasant bliss it is!

lah¡ ni`matan

How a pleasant bliss it is!

lah¡ ni`matan

How a pleasant bliss it is!

yuqaddiru alq¡dir£na qadrah¡

No estimators can assign its value.

Cleansing the Teeth

If you then intend to perform the ritual ablution (wu¤£'), you may before that begin with brushing the teeth with the misw¡k (a stick used for cleansing the teeth), because it cleanse the mouth, removes phlegm, strengthens the memory, increases the good deeds, and pleases the Exalted Lord. A two-unit prayer that is preceded by cleansing the teeth is more favorable than seventy-unit prayer without it. If a misw¡k is not available, it is acceptably sufficient to use one’s finger (for cleansing the teeth).

1. You must ask permission to use the toilet if it does not belong to you.

2. It is mustahab to wear slippers whilst in the toilet.

3. While in the toilet, must at least be able to cover your private parts from others.

4. It is haram to face qibla or to keep qibla towards the back whilst using the toilet.

5. You must use tahir water to wash yourself by first removing the najis items and then pouring water at least twice, better still thrice.

6. It is makruh to urinate whilst standing.

7. It is makruh to hold on to one's want to visit the toilet, and if it harms one's health then it is haram.

8. It is mustahab to urinate before salaa and before going to sleep.

9. It is mustahab to enter the toilet with your left foot and come out with your right foot.

10. It is makruh to wash oneself with the right hand.
