We have been commanded to recite this Dua regularly. Shayikh Sadooq narrates from Abdullah bin Sinan who says that Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said,"After this a time of such doubt will befall you that you will be without the visible signs and a guiding Imam. And no one shall be able to achieve salvation from this except those who recite "Dua-e-Ghareeq."
The narrator asked what this Dua was? Imam (a.s.) replied, After repeating 'Muqallebal Quloob' the narrator added the word, 'Wal absaar' (and the vision). When Imam (a.s.) heard this, he said, "Indeed Allah is the Who changes the hearts and vision, but you recite the Dua as I have said." (Kamaluddin Vol. 2 Pg. 351)

The Supplication During the Age of Occultation -Long version
Through a valid chain of authority, it has been narrated that Shaykh Abu-`Amr, the first Emissary (safir) of Imam al-Mahdi (`a) dictated the following supplicatory prayer to Abu-Muhammad ibn Hammam and ordered him to say it [frequently]. This supplication has been also recorded by Sayyid Ibn Tawus in his book of Jamal al-Usbu` following a number of other supplications to be said after the `Asr Prayers on Fridays and after the major prayer. He added the following:
If you, due to a justifiable excuse, cannot do any of the aforementioned rites, beware lest you ignore saying this supplication, because I personally have recognized the great merit of it through a grace of Almighty Allah that He has bestowed upon me exclusively; therefore, you may rely upon this supplication, which is as follows:
اَللَّهُمَّ عَرِّفْنِي نَفْسَكَ
allahumma `arrifni nafsaka
O Allah, make me recognize You,
فَإنَّكَ إنْ لَمْ تُعَرِّفْنِي نَفْسَكَ
fa'innaka in lam tu`arrifni nafsaka
because if You do not make me recognize You,
لَمْ اعْرِفْ رَسُولَكَ
lam a`rif rasulaka
I will not recognize Your Messenger.
اَللَّهُمَّ عَرِّفْنِي رَسُولَكَ
allahumma `arrifni rasulaka
O Allah, make me recognize Your Messenger,
فَإِنَّكَ إنْ لَمْ تُعَرِّفْنِي رَسُولَكَ
fa'innaka in lam tu`arrifni rasulaka
because if You do not make me recognize Your Messenger,
لَمْ اعْرِفْ حُجَّتَكَ
lam a`rif hujjataka
I will not recognize Your Argument.
اَللَّهُمَّ عَرِّفْنِي حُجَّتَكَ
allahumma `arrifni hujjataka
O Allah, make me recognize Your Argument,
فَإنَّكَ إنْ لَمْ تُعَرِّفْنِي حُجَّتَكَ
fa'innaka in lam tu`arrifni hujjataka
because if You do not make me recognize Your Argument,
ضَلَلْتُ عَنْ دِينِي
dalaltu `an dini
I will stray off the path to my religion.
اَللَّهُمَّ لاَ تُمِتْنِي مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً
allahumma la tumitni mitatan jahiliyyaatan
O Allah, do not make me die like the death of those who have not recognized Islam
وَلاَ تُزِغْ قَلْبِي بَعْدَ إذْ هَدَيْتَنِي
wa la tuzigh qalbi ba`da idh hadaytani
and do not cause my heart to stray off after You have guided me.
allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَٱجْعَلْنِي بِهِمْ فَائِزاً عِنْدَكَ
waj`alni bihim fa'izan `indaka
make me of the winners with You through them

Respond, O Lord of the worlds.
This is from the supplications recorded by Sayyed Ibn Taawoos
(a.r.) in ‘Mohijj al-Dawaat’ in a tradition Behaar al-Anwaar, vol. 95, p. 332.regarding the occultation
of Hazrat Mahdi (a.t.f.s.). Narrator asked, ‘And what should your
Shias do (during occultation)?’
Imam (a.s.) replied,
‘It is necessary for you to pray and wait for the reappearance.’
The tradition continues till the narrator asked, ‘Then how should we
Imam (a.s.) replied,
Shaykh Tabarsi (a.r.), the renowned commentator of the Holy
Quran, has recorded this supplication in his book ‘Kunooz al-
Najaah’ and says, ‘This supplication was taught by our master
Saaheb al-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.) to Abul Hasan Muhammad Ibn Ahmad
Ibn Abi al-Lais in the city of Baghdad at the Graves of Quraish ( مقابر
قريش ), where the latter had taken refuge, due to fear of death. On
account of the blessings of this supplication, he was saved.
This dua'a is attributed to the living Imam Mehdi (atfs). It brings immediate help from our living imam. It is recommended to be recited often by Ulama .Kafami says in his book Baladul Amin that if a wrongfully confined prisoner recites this dua'a he will soon be set free.
If a person find himself surrounded by misfortunes or intrigues he must recite this dua'a to come through tight situations, deadlock and crises.

Supplication 2 for Great Calamities through Another Narration1
Sayyed Ibn Taawoos (a.r.) mentions, ‘The prayers of al-Hujjah al-
Qaem (a.t.f.s.) consists of two rak’ats. In each unit, Surah al-Hamd
is recited, wherein the sentence ‘ ايّك نعبدُ و ايك نستعي ’ is to be recited
hundred (100) times. After this Surah, recite Surah al-Tawheed once
and then, supplicate in the following manner:
allahumma aslih ‘abdaka wa khalieefataka bima aslahta bihi anbiya-aka wa rusulak
O Allah! Reform conditions of Your servant and caliph with those means by which You have reformed conditions of Your messengers and prophets.

Supplication for Repelling Calamities from Imam-e-
Among the invocations narrated for the protection and safety for
our master Imam al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s.), is the one related by the
renowned Sayed, Ali Ibn Tawoos (a.r.) in Jamaal al-Usboo’.p.307; Behaar al-Anwaar, vol. 102, p.
writes, “This invocation for Imam-e-Asr (a.s.) has been narrated by
Imam Reza (a.s.). narrated to me from my
ancestor Abu Ja’far al-Tusi (a.r.) who says, ‘Ibn Abi Jayyed has
informed me from Muhammad Ibn Hasan Ibn Saeed Ibn Abdullah,
and al-Himyari, and Ali Ibn Ibrahim, and Muhammad Ibn Hasan al-
Saffaar, all of them, from Ibrahim Ibn Hashim, from Ismaeel Ibn
Madaar and Saleh Ibn al-Sanadi, from Yunus Ibn Abd al-Rehman.
Yunus Ibn Abd al-Rehman says that Imam Reza
(a.s.) exhorted us to recite this supplication for Imam al-Mahdi
(a.t.f.s.). Shaykh Taqi al-Din Ibrahim al-Kaf’ami has also narrated it
in his famous work, al-Misbaah among the acts of Friday, relating
from Yunus Ibn Abd al-Rehman, on the authority of Imam Reza
(a.s.). In this supplication, we seek the safety of Imam (a.s.) and
dispelling all calamities from him. We also seek guidance and
steadfastness in belief from Allah, Mighty and Glorified be He, for
ourselves during the period of his prolonged occultation, his early
reappearance and the establishment of justice and equity with his
The supplication which was ordered by the eighth Imam (peace be on him) to be recited during the days of occultation.
Sayyid Ali bn Taaus in Jamalil Usbuy said: Imam Rida (peace be on him) usually command reading the following supplication for the leader of the time (peace be on him).
The twelfth hour of the day begins with the sun coloring yellowish and ends with sunset. This hour is dedicated to Imam al-Mahdi the Patron of the Age (`a), and the following is the supplication at this hour:

O He Who has excluded Himself lonely from His creatures!

O He Who has sufficed Himself from His creatures by His making!

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. O owner of the slaves and the vanquisher of the confederations. O opener of the doors. O cause of the causes. Make a cause for us as we are not capable to seek it. By the right of “there is no god except Allah. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” Allah’s blessings be on him and all his progeny.

Prayer of the Twelfth Imam for fulfillment of needsAl-Imam al-Mahdi wa Zuhoorehi, As-Sayyid Jawwad ash-Shahroodi, Pg. 335
One who has a need should perform Ghusl on Friday eve after midnight, and come to the place of prayers and perform two rakats (units) prayer and in the first rakat he should recite Surah al-Hamd and when he reaches: “Iyyaka Na’budoo we iyyaka Nastaeen”, he should repeat this a hundred times and continue with the Surah and after that recite Surah Tawheed once. Then he should perform the Ruku (bowing) and Sajdahs (prostration) and therein recite the recitations of Ruku and Sajdah seven times. Then recite the second rakat also in the same manner and then recite the following supplication. The Almighty Allah would fulfill his needs, whatever sort of a person he is, however he should not be of those who have broken off relation with his relatives. The supplication is as follows:
Allaahumma in at’a’tuka fal mah’madatu lak. Wa in as’aituka falh’ujjatu lak. Minkar rauh’u wa minkal faraj. Sub-h’aana man an-a’ma wa shakara sub-h’aana man qaddara wa ghafarallaahumma in kuntu a’s’aituka fa-innee qad at’a’tuka fee ah’abbil ashyaa-i ilaika wahuwal eemaanu bika lam attakhidh laka waladanw wa lam ad-u’ laka shareekam mannaa minka bihi a’layya laa mannam minni bihi a’laika wa qad a’s’aituka yaa ilaahee a’laa ghairi wajhil mukaabarati wa lal khurooji a’n u’boodeeyatika wa lal juh’oodi liruboobeeyatika wa laakin at’a’tu hawaaya wa azallanish shait’aanu falakal h’ujjatu a’layya wal bayaanu fa-in tuadhdhibnee fabidhunoobee ghairu z’aalimil lee. Wa in taghfirlee wa tarh’amnee fa-innaka jawaadun kareemun yaa kareemun yaa kareem.
O Allah, if I obey You, then the essence of praise is for You, and if I disobey You then the Proof is for You. From You is comfort and from You is success. Glory be to the one who has bestowed favors and thanked. Glory be to the One who commanded and forgave. O Allah, if I am disobedient to you, then I indeed I have also obeyed You in those matters that You prefer most, and it is belief (faith) in You. I have not taken for You any son and neither have I considered anyone Your partner even then the favor is from you upon me and there is no favor from me upon You. Also I have indeed disobeyed You O My Allah, this disobedience was not due to pride or due to leaving Your worship or due to the denial of Allah. It is only that I have obeyed my desires and the Satan misled me. Then Your proof is complete upon me and Your decision. Then if You punish me for my sins, You would not be unjust to me. But if You forgive me and have mercy on me, then indeed You are the Generous, the Kind, O Kind O Kind …. (till the breath breaks)

O One Who is safe from everything and everything is fearful of Him. I ask in the name of this safety and in the name of the fearfulness of everything that You bless Muhammad and the Progeny of Muhammad and accord me safety in my self, my family and my children, so in me also no fear remains of anything, ever. You are powerful over everything and Allah is sufficient for us and the best of the executors. O one who sufficed for Ibrahim against Nimrod and sufficed for Musa against Pharaoh. I beseech You that You bless Muhammad and the Progeny of Muhammad and be sufficient for me against the mischief of the enemy. (Then soon Allah would prevent the mischief of one whose mischief one fears).
Then prostrate and ask for the needs, and beseech Allah. No believing man or woman ever recites this sincerely except that the doors of heavens open to fulfill his or her needs and it will be accepted at that very moment at the place he or she is and this is a blessing of Allah upon the people.
