As a footnote, al-Kaf`ami, in al-Balad al-Amin, says, this dua was recited by Imam Musa al-Kazim, (a.s.) when al-Hadi, the `Abbasid ruler, intended to assassinate him. Hence, the Imam (as) saw in dream his grandfather, the Holy Prophet (saws), who foretold that Almighty Allah would annihilate his enemy.” It is a very effective supplication, having all the merits of al Jawshan al Kabir.
It is also recorded in Sayyid Ibn Tawus’s book of Muhaj al-Da`awat but with little difference. However, the following copy is quoted from al-Balad al-Amin:
|
bismi all¡hi alrra¦m¡ni alrra¦¢mi |
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. |
|

O my God, many an enemy |
|
inta¤¡ `alayya sayfa `ad¡watih¢ |
unsheathed the sword of his hostility against me, |
|
wa sha¦adha l¢ ¨ubbata mudyatih¢ |
honed his dagger's edge against me, |
|
wa arhafa l¢ shab¡ ¦addih¢ |
sharpened the heads of his weapons against me, |
|
wa d¡fa l¢ qaw¡tila sum£mih¢ |
mixed for me his deadly poisons, |
|
wa saddada ilayya ¥aw¡'iba sih¡mih¢ |
leveled at me his hitting arrow, |
|
wa lam tanam `ann¢ `aynu ¦ir¡satih¢ |
kept a sleepless eye on me, |
|
wa a¤mara an yas£man¢ almakr£ha |
and decided secretly to target harm to me |
|
wa yujarri`an¢ dhu`¡fa mar¡ratih¢ |
and to make me taste the deadly poison of his bitterness. |
|

na¨arta il¡ ¤a`f¢ `an i¦tim¡li alfaw¡di¦i |
[Amid all that] You considered that I am too weak to bear hardships, |
|
wa `ajz¢ `an al-inti¥¡ri mimman qa¥adan¢ bimu¦¡rabatih¢ |
I am too short to have aid against him who aimed at attacking me, |
|
wa wa¦dat¢ f¢ kath¢rin mimman n¡w¡n¢ wa ar¥ada l¢ |
and You perceived my loneliness to confront many of those who incurred my hostility and laid in wait for me, |
|

f¢m¡ lam u`mil fikr¢ f¢ al-ir¥¡di lahum bimithlih¢ |
while I have not been ready to give any thought to sitting in ambush and retaliating. |
|

So, You came to stand by me with Your might, |

disappointed him although he concentrated all his troops and crowds, |
|

You gave me the upper hand over him, |
|

wa wajjahta m¡ saddada ilayya min mak¡'idih¢ ilayhi |
directed toward him the same traps that he had laid for me, |
|
wa radadtah£ `alayhi |
and caused him to be engaged with his own traps. |
|

Thus, he could not quench his thirst, |
|
wa lam tabrud ¦az¡z¡tu ghay¨ih¢ |
did not assuage the fury of his anger, |
|
wa qad `a¤¤a `alayya an¡milah£ |
bit his thumb [out of his malice toward me], |
|
wa adbara muwalliyan qad akhfaqat sar¡y¡hu |
and turned his back fleeing after his pennons had failed. |
|

So, all praise be to You, O Lord; |

O my God, many a tyrannical oppressor |

made me the target of his oppressive trickeries, |
|
wa na¥aba l¢ ashr¡ka ma¥¡'idih¢ |
set the traps of his hunting for me, |
|
wa wakkala b¢ tafaqquda ri`¡yatih¢ |
continuously spied on me, |
|
wa a¤ba'a ilayya i¤b¡'a alssabu`i li§ar¢datih¢ |
and waylaid me like a beast waylaying its prey |
|
inti¨¡ran lintih¡zi fur¥atih¢ |
in waiting for seizing the best opportunity [to catch me], |
|

While he was showing me happy mien flatteringly |
|
wa yabsu§u wajhan ghayra §aliqin |
and displaying an uncheerful face. |
|
falamm¡ ra'ayta daghala sar¢ratih¢ |
So, when You saw ill intention of his inner self |

|

and he became resolute in tyranny against me, |
|

You threw him down headlong |
|

and demolished his structure from its foundation. |
|

So, You knocked him down while he was in loftiness, |
|
wa raddaytah£ f¢ mahw¡ ¦ufratih¢ |
made him fall in the bottomless depth of his hole, |
|
wa ja`alta khaddahu §abaqan litur¡bi rijlih¢ |
caused his face to be a cover of his foot’s dust, |
|
wa shaghaltah£ f¢ badanih¢ wa rizqih¢ |
caused him to be engaged with his body and his earnings, |
|
wa ramaytah£ bi¦ajarih¢ |
hurled him with his own stone, |
|
wa khanaqtah£ biwatarih¢ |
suffocated him with his own rope, |
|
wa dhakkaytah£ bimash¡qi¥ih¢ |
slaughtered him with his own arrowhead, |
|
wa kababtah£ limankhirih¢ |
overturned him to his nose, |
|
wa radadta kaydah£ f¢ na¦rih¢ |
turned his plot to his own neck, |
|
wa rabaqtah£ binad¡matih¢ |
lassoed him with his remorse, |
|
wa fasa'tah£ bi¦asratih¢ |

|
