Dua 124, 29/30 Moonsighting from Sahifa Alavia by Imam Ali(as)

Supplication 124- Day 1 of the month from Al-Sahifa e Alaviya
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْاَرْضَ
al-hamdo lillaahil lazee khalaqas samaawaate wal arza
All praise be to Allah who created the heavens and the earth

، وَ جَعَلَ الظُّلُمَاتِ وَ النُّورَ
wa ja-a’laz zolomaate wan noora
and Ordained (put therein) darkness and light

ثُمَّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَ
summal lazeena kafaroo berabbehim ya’deloon.
yet those who disbelieve set up equals with their Lord.

هُوَ الَّذي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ طِيْنٍ ثُمَّ قَضٰى اَجَلاً
howal lazee khalaqakum min teenin summa qazaa ajalaa
He it is who created you of clay, then decreed a term (of life for you)

وَ اَجَلٌ مُسَمَّى عِنْدَهُ ثُمَّ اَنْتُمْ تَمْتَرُوْنَ
wa ajalum mosamman i’ndahu summa antum tamtaroon.
and a term determined is with Him; even then you doubt.

وَ هُوَ اللهُ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ فِي الْاَرْضِ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّكُمْ وَ جَهْرَكُمْ وَ يَعْلَمُ ما تَكْسِبُونَ
wa howal laaho fis samaawaate wa fil arz, ya’lamo sirrakum wa jahrakum wa ya’lamo maa takseboon.
“He is Allah in the heavens and in the earth; He knows what you hide and what you disclose, and He knows what you earn (of good and evil)”. (6:3)

وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ نَجَّانَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِيْنَ
wal hamdo lillaahil lazee najjaanaa menal qawmiz zaalemeen.
And “...Praise be to Allah who has delivered us from the unjust people”. (23:28)

وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ فَضَّلَنَا عَلٰى كَثِيْرٍ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ
wal hamdo lillaahil lazee fazzalanaa a’laa kaseerim min e’baadehil moameneen
And “...Praise be to Allah who has preferred us above many of His believing servants”. (27:15)

وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ وَهَبَ لِيْ عَلَى الْكِبَرِ اِسْمَاعِيْلَ وَ اِسْحَاقَ اِنَّ رَبّيِ لَسَمِيْعُ الدُّعَاءِ
wal hamdo lillaahil lazee wahaba lee a’lal kebare ismaa-e’ela wa ishaaq, inna rabbee la-samee-u’d do-a’aa.
And “Praise be to Allah who has given me Isma’il and Ishaq in spite of my old age; verily my Lord hears the prayer.

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مُقِيْمَ الصَّلاةِ وَ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِيْ رَبَّنَا وَ تَقَبَّلْ دُعاءِ
rabbij a’lnee moqeemas salaate wa min zurriyyatee, rabbanaa wa taqabbal do-a’aa.
O my Lord, make me steadfast in prayer, and also some of my offspring. O Our Lord, accept my prayer.

رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْلِيْ وَ لِوَالِدَيَّ وَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسابُ
rabbanagh fir lee wa lewaaledayya wa lilmoameneena yawma yaqoomul hesaab.
“O Our Lord, forgive me and my parents, and the believers on the day when the reckoning shall come to pass”. (14:41)

فَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ رَبِّ الْاَرْضِ رَبِّ الْعالَمينَ
falillaahil hamdo rabbis samaawaate wa rabbil arze rabbil a’alameen.
“All praise, then be to Allah Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of the worlds". (45:36)

وَ لَهُ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ وَ هُوَ الْعَزيزُ الْحَكيمُ
wa lahul kibreyaaa-o fis samaawaate wal arz, wa howal a’zeezul hakeem.
"His is the greatness in the heavens and the earth : and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise”. (45:37)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ مَا فِي الْاَرْضِ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِي الْاَخِرَةِ وَ هُوَ الْحَكِيْمُ الْخَبِيْرُ
al-hamdo lillaahil lazee lahu maa fis samaawaate wa maa fil arze wa lahul hamdo fil aakherah, wa howal hakeemul khabeer.
“Praise be to Allah to whom belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. His is the praise in the Hereafter; He is All-wise, All-knowing". (34:1)

يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِي الْاَرْضِ وَ مَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَ مَا يَنْزِلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَ مَا يَعْرُجُ فِيْهَا وَ هُوَ الرَّحِيْمُ الْغَفُورُ
ya’lamo maa yalejo fil arze wa maa yakhrojo minhaa wa maa yanzelo menas samaaa-e wa maa ya’rojo feehaa, wa howar raheemul ghafoor.
"He knows whatsoever goes into the earth and whatsoever comes out of it, whatsoever comes down from heaven, and whatsoever goes up to it, He is Merciful, Forgiving”. (34:2)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ فَاطِرِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ جَاعِلِ الْمَلاَئِكَةِ رُسُلاً اُولِيْ اَجْنِحَةٍ مَثْنٰى وَ ثُلاثَ وَ رُبَاعَ يَزِ يْدُ فِي الْخَلْقِ مَا يَشَاءُ اِنَّ اللهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْ ءٍ قَدِيْرٌ
al-hamdo lillaahe faateris samaawate wal arze jaa-e’lil malaa-ekate rosolan oolee ajnehatim masnaa wa solaasa wa roba’, yazeedo fil khalqe maa yashaaa, innal laaha a’laa kulle shay-in qadeer.
“Praise be to Allah, Originator of the heavens and earth, who made the angels messengers having wings two, three and four, He adds what he wills to His creation. Verily Allah has power over all things". (35:1)

مَا يَفْتَحِ اللهُ للِنَّاسِ مِنْ رَحْمَةٍ فَلاَ مُمْسِكَ لَهَا وَ مَا يُمْسِكْ فَلا مُرْسِلَ لَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَ هُوَ الْعَزيزُ الْحَكِيْمُ
maa yaftahil laaho linnaase mir rahmatin falaa mumseka lahaa, wa maa yumsik, falaa mursela lahu mim ba’deh, wa howal a’zeezul hakeem.
"Whatsoever of mercy Allah may make available to man there is none who can withhold it, and whatsoever He withholds there is none to release it thereafter. He is All-mighty, All-wise". (35:2)

يَا اَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اذْكُرُوْا نِعْمَتَ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ هَلْ مِنْ خَالِقٍ غَيْرُ اللهِ يَرْزُقُكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَ الْاَرْضِ لاَ اِلَهَ اِلاَّ هُو فَاَنِّى تُؤْفَكُوْنَ
yaa ayyohan naasuz koroo ne’matal laahe a’laykum, hal min khaaleqin ghayrul laahe yarzoqokum menas samaaa-e wal arz, laaa elaaha illaa hoo, fa-annaa toafakoon.
"O people remember the bounty of Allah granted to you; is there any creator, other than Allah, who gives you sustenance from the heavens and the earth? There is no god but He : whither then are you deviating ?” (35:3)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ الْحَىِّ الَّذِيْ لايَمُوتُ
al-hamdo lillaahe rabbil a’alameenal hayyil lazee laa yamooto
“Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds”. (1:1), “...the Ever living (lord) who does not die...” (25:58)

وَ الْقَائِمِ الَّذِيْ لا يَتَغَيَّرُ
wal qaaa-emil lazee laa yataghayyrao,
the Established Who does not change,

وَ الدَّائِمِ الَّذِيْ لا يَفْنٰى
wad daaa-emil lazee laa yafnaa,
the Eternal Who does not perish,

وَ الْمَلِكِ الَّذِيْ لا يَزُوْلُ
wal malekil lazee laa yazoolo,
the Sovereign Who does not cease to exist,

وَ الْعَدْلِ الَّذِيْ لا يَغْفُلُ
wal a’dlil lazee laa yaghfolo,
the Just Who is not unmindful,

وَ الْحَكَمِ الَّذِيْ لا يَحِيْفُ
wal hakamil lazee yaa yaheefo,
the Judge Who does not act unjustly,

وَ اللَّطِيْفِ الَّذِيْ لا يَخْفٰى عَلَيْهِ شَيْ ءٌ
wal lateefil lazee laa yakhfaa a’layhe shayun,
the All-Subtle from Whom nothing is hidden,

وَ الْوَاسِعِ الَّذِيْ لا يُعْجِزُهُ شَيْ ءٌ
wal waa-se-i’l lazee laa yo’jezohu shay-un,
the All-prevailing Whom nothing incapacitates,

وَ الْمُعْطِيْ مَا يَشَاءُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ
wal mo’tee maa yashaa-o leman yashaa-o,
the Bestower of what He wills on whomsoever He wills,

وَ الْاَوَّلِ الَّذِيْ لا يُسْبَقُ
al-awwalul lazee laa yusbaqo,
the First Who is not preceded,

وَ الْاَخِرِ الَّذِيْ لايُدْرَكُ
wal aakheril lazee laa yudrako,
and the Last Who is not overtaken,

وَ الظَّاهِرِ الَّذِيْ لَيْسَ فَوْقَهُ شَيْ ءٌ
waz zaaheril lazee laysa fawqahu shay-un,
the Apparent above Whom there is nothing,

وَ الْبَاطِنِ الَّذِيْ لَيْسَ دُوْنَهُ شَيْ ءٌ
wal baatenil lazee laysa doonahu shay-un,
and the Hidden beyond Whom there is nothing,

وَ اَحاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْ ءٍ عِلْماً
wa ahaata be-kulle shayin i’lman,
and "...He encompasses everything in (His knowledge).” (65:12)

وَ اَحْصى كُلَّ شَيْ ءٍ عَدَداً
wa ahshaa kulla shay-in a’dadaa.
and “...He has counted everything in numbers”. (72:28)

اَللَّهُمَ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ الِهِ
allaahumma salle a’laa mohammadin wa aalehi,
O Allah, bless Muhammad and his family,

وَ اَنْطِقْ بِدُعَائِكَ لِسَانِيْ، وَ اَنْجِحْ بِهِ طَلِبَتِيْ
wa atliq bedo- a’a-eka lesaanee, wa anjeh behi talebatee,
and grant me eloquence of speech in calling on You, and accomplish through it my request,

وَ اَعْطِنِيْ بِهِ حَاجَتِيْ، وَ بَلِّغْنِيْ فِيْهِ اَمَلِيْ
wa aa’tenee behi haajatee, wa ballighnee feehe amalee,
grant me through it my need, deliver to me my hope (mentioned) in it,

وَ قِني بِهِ رَهْبَتِيْ، وَ اَسْبِغْ بِهِ نَعْمَائي
wa qenee behi wa rahbatee, wa asbigh behi na’maa-ee,
preserve me through it in my fear, make complete through it my blessings,

وَ اسْتَجِبْ بِهِ دُعَائي، وَ زَكِّ بِهِ عَمَلِيْ
was tajib behi do-a’aee, wa zakke behi a’malee
answer through in my prayer, and purify through it my action,

تَزْكِيَةً تَرْحَمُ بِهَا تَضَرُّعِيْ وَ شَكْوَاىَ
tazkeyatan tarhamo behaa tazarro-e’e wa shakwaaya,
a purification through which You have mercy on my humble supplication and my complaint;

وَ اَسْأَلُكَ اَنْ تَرْحَمَنِيْ وَ اَنْ تَرْضِىْ عَنّي
wa asaloka an tarhamanee, wa an tarzaa a’nnee,
I ask You to have mercy on me and to be pleased with me

وَ تَسْتَجِيْبَ لي، اٰمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
wa tas-tajeeba lee, aameena rabbal a’alameen.
and to answer me, Amen, Lord of all Being.

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ يُنْشِي ءُ السَّحَابَ الثِّقَالَ
al-hamdo lillaahil lazee yunshe-us sahaabas seqaal.
Praise belongs to Allah Who raises the heavy clouds.

وَ يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَ الْمَلائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيْفَتِهِ، وَ يُرْسِلُ الصَّواعِقَ فَيُصيبُ بِها مَنْ يَشاءُ وَ هُمْ يُجادِلُونَ فِي اللهِ وَ هُوَ شَدِيْدُ الْمِحَالِ
wa yosabbehur ra’do behamdehi wal malaaekato min kheefateh, wa yursefus sawaae’qa fa-yoseebo behaa many yashaaao wa hum yojaadeloona feel laah, wa howa shadeedul mehaal.
"The thunder sings His praise, and the angels too, in awe of Him. He sends thunderbolts, and smites with them whomsoever He wills; yet they dispute concerning Allah, and He is mighty in power”. (13:13)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ لَهُ دَعْوَةُ الْحَقِّ وَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِيْنُ
al-hamdo lillaahil lazee lahu da’watul haqqe wa howal haqqul mobeeno,
Praise belongs to Allah, “To Him alone is the true prayer...” (13:14) and “...He is the self-evident Truth” (24:25),

وَ مَا يُدْعي مِنْ دُونِهِ فَهُوَ الْباطِلُ وَ هُوَ الْعَلِي الْكَبِيْرُ
wa maa yud-a’a min doonehi fahowal baatelo, wa howal a’liyyul kabeero.
and that which is called upon “...apart from Him – that is false; and He is the All-high, the All-great”. (Ref. 31:30)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِيْ يَتَوَفَّى الْاَنْفُسَ حِيْنَ مَوْتِهَا وَ الَّتِيْ لَمْ تَمُتْ في مَنَامِهَا فَيُمْسِكُ الَّتِيْ قَضٰى عَلَيْهَا الْمَوْتَ وَ يُرْسِلُ الْأُخْرٰى اِلٰى اَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى، اِنَّ في ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
alhamdo lillaahil lazee yatawaffal anfosa heena mawtehaa wal latee lam tamut fee manaamehaa, fayumsekul latee qazaa a’layhal mawta wa yurselul ukhraa elaa ajalim mosammaa, inna fee zaaleka la-aayaatil leqawminy yatafakkaroon.
Praise belongs to Allah who “...takes the souls a the time of their death, and those who do not die (he takes) during their sleep; He withholds those on whom He has decreed death, and sends the others back (to their bodies) for an appointed term. Verily there are signs in this for those who reflect”. (39:42)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذي وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّماواتِ وَ الْاَرْضَ وَ لا يَؤُدُهُ حِفْظُهُما وَ هُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظيمُ
alhamdo lillaahil lazee wase-a’ kursiyyohus samaawaate wal arz, wa laa ya-oodohu hifzohomaa, wa howal a’liyyul a’zeem.
Praise belongs to Allah whose “...Throne (knowledge) extends over the heavens and earth; the preservation of them does not tire Him; He is the Most high, the Great”. (2:255)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ عالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَ الشَّهادَةِ هُوَ الرَّحْمنُ الرَّحيمُ
al-hamdo lillaahe a’alemul ghaybe wash shahaadah, howar rahmaanur raheem.
Praise belongs to Allah “...the Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (59:22)

، هُوَ اللهُ الَّذي لا اِلهَ إلاَّ هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَّبارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ ،سُبْحانَ اللهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
howal laahul lazee laa elaaha illaa hoo, almalekul quddoosus salaamul moamenul mohaymenul a’zeezul jabbaarul motakabber, subhaanal laahe a’mma yushrekoon.
“He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him)”. (59:23)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذي لا اِلهِ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْخالِقُ الْبارى ءُ الْمُصَوِّرُ، لَهُ الْاَسْماءُ الْحُسْنٰى يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ ما فِي السَّماواتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ وَ هُوَ الْعَزيزُ الْحَكيمُ
al-hamdo lillaahil lazee laa elaaha illaa howal khaalequl baare-ul mosawwero lahul asmaaa-ul husnaa, yosabbeho lahu maa fis samaawaate wal arz, wa howal a’zeezul hakeem.
Praise belongs to Allah, there is no god but He, “...the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner. His are all the Names Most Beautiful. Whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him. He is Ever prevalent, All-wise”. (59:24)

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ صاحِبَةً وَ لا وَلَداً وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَريكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَلِيٌّ مِنَ الذُّلِّ وَ كَبِّرْهُ تَكْبيراً
alhamdo lilaahil lazee lam yattakhiz saahebatanw wa laa waladanw wa lam yakul lahu shareekun fil mulke wa lam yakul lahu waliyyum menaz zulle wa kabbirho takbeeraa.
Praise belongs to Allah,“All praise be to Allah, who has not taken (unto Himself) a son, neither has He any partner in the Kingdom, nor has He any helper out of humility. And proclaim His greatness by extolling (His glory)”. (17:111)

Moon sighting Dua 29
اَللَّهُمَّ اِنّي اَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هذَا الشَّهْرِ،
Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadha ash-shahr,
O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this month.

وَ نُورَهُ وَ نَصْرَهُ وَ بَرَكَتَهُ وَ طَهُورَهُ وَ رِزْقَهُ،
Wa nurahu wa nasrahu wa barakatahu wa tahurahu wa rizqahu,
And its light, its victory, its blessings, its purification, and its sustenance.

وَ اَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ ما فيهِ وَ خَيْرَ ما بَعْدَهُ،
Wa as'aluka khayra ma fihi wa khayra ma ba'dah,
And I ask You for the best of what is in it and the best of what comes after it.

وَ اَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ ما فيهِ وَ شَرِّ ما بَعْدَهُ.
Wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma ba'dah.
And I seek refuge in You from the evil of what is in it and the evil of what comes after it.

اَللَّهُمَّ اَدْخِلْهُ عَلَيْنا بِالْاَمْنِ وَ الْايمانِ،
Allahumma adkhilhu 'alayna bil-amni wal-iman,
O Allah, bring it upon us with security and faith.

وَ السَّلامَةِ وَ الْاِسْلامِ، وَ الْبَرَكَةِ وَ التَّقْوى،
Was-salamati wal-islam, wal-barakati wat-taqwa,
And with safety and Islam, with blessings and piety.

وَ التَّوْفيقِ لِما تُحِبُّ وَ تَرْضى.
Wat-tawfiqi lima tuhibbu wa tardha.
And with success in what You love and are pleased with.


Moon sighting Dua 30
اَيُّهَا الْخَلْقُ الْمُطيعُ الدَّائِبُ السَّريعُ،
Ayyuha al-khalqu al-muti'u ad-da'ibu as-sari'u,
O creation that is obedient, persistent, and swift.

الْمُتَرَدِّدُ في فَلَكِ التَّدْبيرِ، اَلْمُتَصَرِّفُ في مَنازِلِ التَّقْديرِ،
Al-mutaraddidu fi falaki at-tadbir, al-mutassarifu fi manazili at-taqdir,
Revolving in the orbit of divine planning, moving through the stations of predestination.

امَنْتُ بِمَنْ نَوَّرَ بِكَ الظُّلُمَ، وَ اَضاءَ بِكَ الْبُهَمَ،
Amantu biman nawwara bika az-zulum, wa ada'a bika al-buham,
I believe in the One who illuminated darkness through you and brightened obscurity by you.

وَ جَعَلَكَ ايَةً مِنْ اياتِ سُلْطانِهِ،
Wa ja'alaka ayatan min ayati sultanih,
And made you a sign of His sovereignty.

وَ امْتَهَنَكَ بِالزِّيادَةِ وَ النُّقْصانِ، وَ الطُّلُوعِ وَ الْاُفُولِ،
Wa imtahanaka biz-ziyadati wan-nuqsan, wat-tulu'i wal-uful,
He subjected you to increase and decrease, rising and setting.

وَ الْاِنارَةِ وَ الْكُسُوفِ، في كُلِّ ذلِكَ اَنْتَ لَهُ مُطيعٌ،
Wal-inarati wal-kusuf, fi kulli dhalika anta lahu muti'un,
And to illumination and eclipse, in all of that you obey Him.

وَ اِلى اِرادَتِهِ سَريعٌ.
Wa ila iradatihi sari'un.
And you swiftly follow His will.

سُبْحانَهُ ما اَحْسَنَ ما دَبَّرَ، وَ اَتْقَنَ ما صَنَعَ في مُلْكِهِ،
Subhanahu ma ahsana ma dabbar, wa atqana ma sana'a fi mulkihi,
Glory be to Him! How excellent is His planning and how perfect is His craftsmanship in His dominion!

وَ جَعَلَكَ اللَّهُ هِلالَ شَهْرٍ حادِثٍ لِاَمْرٍ حادِثٍ،
Wa ja'alaka Allahu hilala shahrin hadithin li amrin hadith,
And Allah has made you the crescent of a new month for a new matter.

جَعَلَكَ اللَّهُ هِلالَ اَمْنٍ وَ ايمانٍ وَ سَلامَةٍ وَ اِسْلامٍ،
Ja'alaka Allahu hilala amnin wa imanin wa salamatan wa islam,
Allah has made you the crescent of security, faith, peace, and Islam.

هِلالَ اَمَنَةٍ مِنَ الْعاهاتِ وَ سَلامَةٍ مِنَ السَّيِّئاتِ.
Hilala amanatin minal-'ahati wa salamatan minas-sayyi'at,
A crescent of protection from afflictions and safety from misdeeds.

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنا اَهْدى مَنْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْهِ،
Allahumma aj'alna ahda man tala'a alayh,
O Allah, make us the most rightly guided among those upon whom it rises.

وَ اَزْكى مَنْ نَظَرَ اِلَيْهِ،
Wa azka man nazara ilayh,
And the purest among those who look at it.

وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ وَ الِهِ،
Wa salla Allahu 'ala Muhammadin an-nabiyy wa alih,
And may Allah send blessings upon Muhammad, the Prophet, and his family.

اَللَّهُمَّ افْعَلْ بي كَذا وَ كَذا يا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمينَ.
Allahumma if'al bi kada wa kada ya arhamar-rahimin,
O Allah, do for me such and such, O Most Merciful of the merciful.



Another Dua for Moon sighting
اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّ النَّاسَ اِذا نَظَرُوا اِلَى الْهِلالِ نَظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ في وُجُوهِ بَعْضٍ،
Allahumma inna an-naasa idha nazaroo ilal-hilali nazara ba'duhum fi wujuhi ba'd.
O Allah, when people look at the crescent moon, some look at each other’s faces.

وَ رَجا بَعْضُهُمْ بَرَكَةَ بَعْضٍ.
Wa raja ba'duhum barakata ba'd.
And some hope for the blessings of others.

اَللَّهُمَّ اِنّي اَنْظُرُ اِلى وَجْهِكَ جَلَّ ثَناؤُكَ،
Allahumma inni anzuru ila wajhika jalla thanauk.
O Allah, I look towards Your noble face; exalted is Your praise.

وَ وَجْهِ نَبِيِّكَ، وَ وَجْهِ اَوْلِيائِكَ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ نَبِيِّكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ،
Wa wajha nabiyyika, wa wajha awliya'ika ahla bayti nabiyyika salla Allahu alayhim.
And the face of Your Prophet, and the faces of Your chosen ones, the family of Your Prophet, peace be upon them.

فَصَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ الِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Fasalli 'ala Muhammad wa aali Muhammad.
So send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

وَ اَعْطِني ما اُحِبُّ اَنْ تُعْطِيَنيهِ فِي الدُّنْيا وَ الْاخِرَةِ،
Wa a'tini ma uhibbu an tu'tiyaniyahu fid-dunya wal-akhirah.
Grant me what I love to receive in this world and the hereafter.

وَ اصْرِفْ عَنّي ما اُحِبُّ اَنْ تَصْرِفَهُ عَنّي فِي الدُّنْيا وَ الْاخِرَةِ،
Wasrif 'anni ma uhibbu an tasrifahu 'anni fid-dunya wal-akhirah.
And turn away from me what I wish to be removed in this world and the hereafter.

وَ اَحْيِنا عَلى طاعَتِكَ وَ طاعَةِ اَوْلِيائِكَ وَ طاعَةِ وَلِيِّكَ،
Wa ahyina 'ala ta'atik wa ta'ati awliya'ik wa ta'ati waliyyik.
Let us live in obedience to You, Your chosen ones, and Your guardian.

صَلَواتُكَ وَ رَحْمَتُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ التَّسْليمِ لِأَمْرِكَ،
Salawatuka wa rahmatuka 'alayhim wa at-taslim li amrik.
May Your blessings and mercy be upon them, and submission to Your command.

وَ تَوَفَّنا عَلَيْهِ وَ لا تَسْلُبْناهُ، وَ تَفَضَّلْ عَلَيْنا فيهِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ.
Wa tawaffana 'alayhi wa la taslubnah, wa tafaddal 'alayna fihi birahmatik.
Let us die upon it and do not deprive us of it, and favor us with Your mercy.

ثمّ تقول:

say:

ما شاءَ اللَّهُ، لا حَوْلَ وَ لا قُوَّةَ اِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظيمِ - عشراً،
Ma sha' Allah, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil 'Aliyyil 'Azim – 'ashran.
What Allah wills, there is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great – ten times.

اَللَّهُمَّ صلَّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ الِ مُحَمَّدٍ - عشراً.
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa aali Muhammad – 'ashran.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad – ten times.

ثم كان يولّيه ظهره و يقول:
Thumma kana yuwallihi zahrhu wa yaqul:
Then he would turn his back to it and say:

رَبّي وَ رَبُّكَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعالَمينَ،
Rabbi wa rabbuka Allahu Rabbul 'Alamin.
My Lord and your Lord is Allah, the Lord of all worlds.

اَللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْنا عَلَى السَّلامِ وَ الْاِسْلامِ،
Allahumma thabbitna 'ala as-salam wal-islam.
O Allah, keep us firm upon peace and Islam.

وَ الْأَمْنِ وَ الْايمانِ، وَ دَفْعِ الْاَسْقامِ،
Wal-amn wal-iman, wa daf'il-asqam.
And upon safety and faith, and the removal of illnesses.

وَ الْمُسارَعَةِ فيما تُحِبُّ وَ تَرْضى مِنْ طاعَتِنا لَكَ.
Wal-musara'ati fima tuhibbu wa tardha min ta'atina lak.
And in hastening towards what You love and are pleased with in our obedience to You.

Also Recite Imam Sajjad's (peace be upon him) Dua upon sighting the New Crescent (Sahifa Sajjadiya 43)
