Dua  'During' Salaat     Before Salaat

1) Dua Before Takbeeratul Ehram
Before uttering the Takbeeratul Ehraam, it is worthy that he recites the invocation of attention (doa-e-tawajjoh) which, in the narration of Abdullah Ibn Jafar Himyari (received in the tawqee’ of Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) is as follows:

I turn my face towards the One Who has created the heavens and the earth, being upright and submissive, on the nation of Ibrahim and the nation of Muhammad and the guidance of Ameerul Momineen. And I am not of the polytheists. Surely, my prayers, my sacrifice, my life and my death are (only) for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. There is no partner unto Him. And thus have I been commanded. And I am from those who submit. O Allah! Make me from those who submit.

before takbeeratul ehram

(Al-Ehtejaaj, vol. 2, p.7; Wasaaelush Shia, vol. 6, p.25)

How great it is if somebody utters these words, synchronizes his heart with his tongue, and gives his words a practical shape in its truest sense, really turns his heart towards Allah, and removes all other thoughts from his mind. Yes! How good indeed is the servant who, at any given moment of his life, does not do anything or commit any deed against the wishes of his Master and Lord and even goes to the extent of dying in His cause. If at all he does commit some sin or transgression, he immediately begs Him for forgiveness and seeks His refuge. May Allah make us, and all the friends of the Ahle Bait (a.s.), from those who submit to His wishes and may He not turn His attention away from us even for a moment.

(2) It is recommended that "before Takbiratul Ehram with Niyat of 'Rija'" a person should say this:

O Lord Who are Beneficent! This sinful has come before You and You have ordered the charitable to show indulgence to the sinners. You are Beneficent, and I am a sinner. Bestow Your blessings on Muhammad and his progeny, and pardon my evil acts of which You are aware.

Ya muhsinu qad atakal musiu wa qad amartal muhsina an yatajawaza 'anil musiei antal Muhsinu wa anal Musio bihaqqi Muhammadin wa Ali Muhammadin salli 'ala Muhammadin wa Ali Muhammadin wa tajawaz 'an qabihi ma ta'lamu minni..

One should prepare for he prayers bringing all attention to bear upon them considering ones lowly position  and the greatness and glory of ones lord and that one is standing to pray to HIM and to address HIM.Then Avoiding all distractions one must stand in solemnity and humility keeping ones hands on ones thighsabove the knees and one's feet about three fingers to a span of the hand apart and ones sight fixed on the place of prostration.

When one intends to commence recitation of al hamd one may say softly 'Audhoo billahi minashaitaani rajeem '

DUAS DURING SALAAT from Baqiyatus salehat

You may then recite S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah (No. 1) observing all etiquettes, having your heart present, and pondering while that is as much as one breath. Then, you may recite any S£rah of the Holy Qur'¡n, although it is advisable to recite such S£rahs as S£rah al-Naba' (No. 78), S£rah al-Ins¡n (or al-Dahr, No. 76), or S£rah al-Qiy¡mah (No. 75). Upon finishing reciting the second S£rah, you may also pause for a while that is as much as one breath. You may then raise your hands up to the lower part of your ears while uttering the Takb¢r statement. You may then genuflect, putting your right hand on your right knee and then your left hand on your left knee, opening up your fingers as if you are holding fast to your knees. You may also bow your back and stretch your neck at the level of your back, casting your sight on the space between your two feet and saying the following:

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

sub¦¡na rabbiya al`a¨¢mi wa bi¦amdih¢

All glory be to my Lord, the All-great, and in praise of Him.

It is highly advisable to repeat this statement seven, five, or three times. Before that, you may have said the following:

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ

all¡humma laka raka`tu

O Allah, to You alone have I genuflected,

ghayra mustankifin wa l¡ mustakbirin wa l¡ musta¦sirin

I am neither disdaining, nor arrogant, nor regretful.

You may now raise your head from genuflection, stand erect, and say the following:

سَمِعَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ

sami`a all¡hu liman ¦amidah£

May Allah listen to him who praises Him.

You may then utter a Takb¢r statement and fall down for prostration with full submission and reverence. You may stretch your palms and put them on the ground before you put your knees on the ground. You may prostrate on a prostration-clay made of the soil taken from Imam al-°usayn’s tomb. While prostrating yourself, you should utter the statement of prostration once although it is favorable to repeat it seven, five, or three times. Before that, you may have said the following:

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ

all¡humma laka sajadtu

O Allah, to You (alone) do I prostrate,

All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

tab¡raka all¡hu a¦sanu alkh¡liq¢na

Blessed be Allah, the most excellent of all creators.

You may now say the prostration statement. Then, you may raise your head from the position of prostration and sit down. While doing this, it is recommended to utter the Takb¢r statement and to sit on your hip, saying the following:

اسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّي وَاتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

astaghfiru all¡hu rabb¢ wa at£bu ilayhi

I implore Allah, my Lord, for forgiveness and I repent to Him.

You may also say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ ٱغْفِرْ لِي وَٱرْحَمْنِي

Surely, I stand in need of whatever good You may send down to me.

tab¡raka all¡hu rabbu al`¡lam¢na

Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

You may then utter the Takb¢r statement and prostrate yourself again, doing the same as what you have done in the first prostration. You may then raise your head and sit for rest. You may then stand up saying,

bi¦awli all¡h wa quwwatih¢ aq£mu wa aq`udu

With the might of Allah and with His power, I stand up and sit down.

When you stand erect, you should recite S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah and another S£rah, preferably S£rah al-Taw¦¢d, after which you may say the following three times:

كَذٰلِكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّي

kadh¡lika all¡hu rabb¢

Such is Allah, my Lord.

You may then say the Takb¢r statement and raise your hands to the level of your face turning the inner surface (i.e. palm) of your hands towards the sky and combining all your fingers, except the thumb, together and say any of the Qun£t supplications, preferably choosing words of praying for relief. After that, you may say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ ٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَا

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka `al¡ kulli shay'in qad¢run

Verily, You have power over all things.

You may say the following thereafter:

اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ كَانَ اصْبَحَ وَلَهُ ثِقَةٌ اوْ رَجَاءٌ غَيْرُكَ

all¡humma man k¡na a¥ba¦a wa lah£ thiqatun aw raj¡'un ghayruka

O Allah, if there is any one who begins his day by putting his trust and his hope in any one other than You,

fa'anta thiqat¢ wa raj¡'¢

then You (alone) is my trust and my hope.

and endue me with wellbeing in my self

bira¦matika y¡ ar¦ama alrr¡¦im¢na

in the name of Your mercy, O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

It is advisable to spend much time in Qun£t, since the supplications to be said in Qun£t are too many.

You may then say the Takb¢r statement, bow down, and prostrate yourself as has been previously recommended.

Upon accomplishment of the two prostrations (of the second unit of prayer), you may sit down to utter the statements of tashahhud and tasl¢m. It is recommended to sit on your hips and to say the following before uttering the tashahhud statement:

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِٱللَّهِ

bismill¡hi wa bill¡hi

In the Name of Allah (I begin) and in Allah (I trust).

ashhadu an l¡ il¡ha ill¡ all¡hu

I bear witness that there is no god save Allah.

Third: Imam al-¯¡diq (`a) is reported to have said: Imam `Al¢ Am¢r al-Mu'min¢n (`a) used to say the following  prayer whenever he accomplished the midday (i.e. ²uhr) prayer:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي تَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

all¡humma inn¢ ataqarrabu ilayka bij£dika wa karamika

O Allah, I seek nearness to You in the name of Your magnanimity and generosity,

wa ataqarrabu ilayka bimu¦ammadin `abdika wa ras£lika

I seek nearness to You in the name of Mu¦ammad Your servant and messenger,

wa ataqarrabu ilayka bimal¡'ikatika almuqarrab¢na

and I seek nearness to You in the name of Your archangels,

wa anbiy¡'ika almursal¢na wa bika

Your missioned prophets, and You.

all¡humma anta alghaniyyu `ann¢

O Allah, You are independent of me

while I am in need for You.

anta alghaniyyu wa an¡ alfaq¢ru ilayka

You are the self-sufficient while I am needy for You.

aqaltan¢ `athrat¢

You have overlooked my slips

wa satarta `alayya dhun£b¢

and covered my sins;

faq¤i alyawma ¦¡jat¢

so, (please) grant my request on this day

wa l¡ tu`adhdhibn¢ biqab¢¦i m¡ ta`lamu minn¢

and do not punish me for the hideous things You know about me.

bal `afwuka wa j£duka yasa`un¢

Rather, Your pardon and Your magnanimity are so expansive that they can encompass me.

He would then prostrate himself and say the following  prayer:

يَا هْلَ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ

 ahla alttaqw¡

O worthy to be feared!

wa y¡ ahla almaghfirati

O worthy to forgive!

O All-benign! O All-merciful!

anta abarru b¢ min ab¢ wa umm¢

You are more benign to me than my father, my mother,

wa min jam¢`i alkhal¡'iqi

and all creatures.

iqlibn¢ biqa¤¡'i ¦¡jat¢

(Please) make me return having my request granted (by You),

muj¡ban du`¡'¢

having my prayer responded,

mar¦£man ¥awt¢

having my voice compassionated,

qad kashafta anw¡`a albal¡'i `anna¢

and having all sorts of tribulation held off from me.

You may now prepare yourself for performing the prayer. You must have heart presence and pay attention to your prayer, by considering the humiliation of your situation and the all-greatness and majesty of your Lord to whom you are talking in your prayer. Behave as is you can see Him in front of you and be ashamed of talking to Him with your tongue while your heart is preoccupied by another thing. You may then stand up with respect and reverence, putting your two hands on your thighs opposite to your knees. Separate between your two feet in an amount of three fingers up to one span. Cast your sight on the place of your prostration. You may then intend to perform this Dawn Prayer for seeking nearness to Allah the Exalted. Then, say the Takb¢rat al-I¦r¡m statement (saying: all¡hu-akbar ‘Allah is the Greatest’; the introductory statement to prayer). It is recommended to add statements of Takb¢r (i.e. professing Almighty Allah being the greatest) to it, at each one of which, you may raise your hands to reach the level of the lower part of your ear, turning the palms of your hand towards the kiblah direction. Try to make all your fingers, except the thumb, stick to one another, but not open. You may now say the supplications of the Takb¢r statements, which are as follows:

After the third Takb¢r statement, you may say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ انْتَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ٱلْمُبِينُ

all¡humma anta almaliku al¦aqqu almub¢nu

O Allah, You are verily the King and the Manifest Truth.

 il¡ha ill¡ anta sub¦¡naka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

inn¢ ¨alamtu nafs¢

I have wronged myself;

so, (please) forgive my sin.

innah£ l¡ yaghfiru aldhdhun£ba ill¡ anta

Verily, none can forgive sins save You.

After the fifth Takb¢r statement, you may say the following:

Here I am responding to You and here I am trying to please You.

am standing in submission before You,

minka wa bika wa laka wa ilayka

and I am from You, through You, to You, and for You.

 malja'a wa l¡ manj¡

There is neither haven nor shelter

wa l¡ mafarra minka ill¡ ilayka

nor escape from You except with You.

sub¦¡naka wa ¦an¡nayka

All glory be to You; I am seeking Your kindness.

wajjahtu wajhiya lilladh¢ fa§ara alssam¡w¡ti wal-ar¤a

I have turned myself to Him Who originated the heavens and the earth,

`¡limi alghaybi walshshah¡dati

the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed,

wa m¡ ana min almushrik¢na

and I am not of the polytheists.

inna ¥al¡t¢ wa nusuk¢

Surely, my prayer, my sacrifice,

wa ma¦y¡ya wa mam¡t¢

my life, and my death

and this am I commanded,

wa ana min almuslim¢na

and I am of those who submit.

Before you begin with the recitation (qir¡'ah: reciting certain Qur'¡nic chapters in the prayers), you may say the statement of seeking protection (isti`¡dhah) in a low tone:

اعُوذُ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَانِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ

a`£dhu bill¡hi min alshshay§¡ni alrraj¢mi

I pray Allah’s protection from Satan, the accursed.

O Allah, to You (alone) do I prostrate,

wa bika ¡mantu

You may now say the prostration statement. Then, you may raise your head from the position of prostration and sit down. While doing this, it is recommended to utter the Takb¢r statement and to sit on your hip, saying the following:

اسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّي وَاتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

astaghfiru all¡hu rabb¢ wa at£bu ilayhi

I implore Allah, my Lord, for forgiveness and I repent to Him.

You may also say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ ٱغْفِرْ لِي وَٱرْحَمْنِي

all¡humma ighfir l¢ war¦amn¢

O Allah, (please) forgive me, have mercy upon me,

wajburn¢ wadfa` `ann¢ wa `¡fin¢

set aright my affairs, defend me, and grant me wellbeing.

inn¢ lim¡ anzalta ilyya min khayrin faq¢run

Such is Allah, my Lord
