righteous, and fix for me a place near the grave

of your Messenger Muhammad (May the prayers

& salutations of Allah be on him & his family.) a

place of stay & rest (grant me all of this) through

who are able to show mercy"

1) Dua Before Takbeeratul Ehram
Before uttering the Takbeeratul Ehraam, it is worthy that he recites the invocation of attention (doa-e-tawajjoh) which, in the narration of Abdullah Ibn Jafar Himyari (received in the tawqee’ of Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) is as follows:

I turn my face towards the One Who has created the heavens and the earth, being upright and submissive, on the nation of Ibrahim and the nation of Muhammad and the guidance of Ameerul Momineen. And I am not of the polytheists. Surely, my prayers, my sacrifice, my life and my death are (only) for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. There is no partner unto Him. And thus have I been commanded. And I am from those who submit. O Allah! Make me from those who submit.

before takbeeratul ehram

(Al-Ehtejaaj, vol. 2, p.7; Wasaaelush Shia, vol. 6, p.25)

How great it is if somebody utters these words, synchronizes his heart with his tongue, and gives his words a practical shape in its truest sense, really turns his heart towards Allah, and removes all other thoughts from his mind. Yes! How good indeed is the servant who, at any given moment of his life, does not do anything or commit any deed against the wishes of his Master and Lord and even goes to the extent of dying in His cause. If at all he does commit some sin or transgression, he immediately begs Him for forgiveness and seeks His refuge. May Allah make us, and all the friends of the Ahle Bait (a.s.), from those who submit to His wishes and may He not turn His attention away from us even for a moment.

(2) It is recommended that "before Takbiratul Ehram with Niyat of 'Rija'" a person should say this:

O Lord Who are Beneficent! This sinful has come before You and You have ordered the charitable to show indulgence to the sinners. You are Beneficent, and I am a sinner. Bestow Your blessings on Muhammad and his progeny, and pardon my evil acts of which You are aware.

Ya muhsinu qad atakal musiu wa qad amartal muhsina an yatajawaza 'anil musiei antal Muhsinu wa anal Musio bihaqqi Muhammadin wa Ali Muhammadin salli 'ala Muhammadin wa Ali Muhammadin wa tajawaz 'an qabihi ma ta'lamu minni..

pre-Prayer Supplications from baqiyatus salehat

When you intend to perform the prayer, you may say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اقَدِّمُ إِلَيْكَ مُحَمَّداً

all¡humma inn¢ uqaddimu ilayka mu¦ammadan

O Allah, I submit Mu¦ammad,

¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lih¢

may Allah bless him and his Household,

bayna yaday ¦¡jat¢

to You before mentioning my needs,

wa atawajjah£ bih¢ ilayka

and I turn to You in his name;

faj`aln¢ bih¢ waj¢han `indaka

so, (please) make me of high regard with You

f¢ aldduny¡ wal-¡khirati

in this world and the Hereafter,

wa min almuqarrab¢na

and of those drawn near to You,

waj`al ¥al¡t¢ bih¢ maqb£latan

and (please) decide, in his name, my prayer to be admitted,

wa dhanb¢ bih¢ maghf£ran

my sin to be forgiven,

wa du`¡'¢ bih¢ mustaj¡ban

and my supplication to be responded.

innaka anta alghaf£ru alrra¦¢mu

You are verily the All-forgiving, the All-merciful.

You may then utter the call to prayer (i.e. adh¡n) and say the prefatory part of prayer (i.e. iq¡mah). You may separate the two with a prostration or a sitting position, saying the following:

اللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْ قَلْبِي بَارّاً

all¡humma ij`al qalb¢ b¡rran

O Allah, (please) make my heart dutiful,

wa `aysh¢ q¡rran

my livelihood delightful,

wa rizq¢ d¡rran

my sustenance profuse,

waj`al l¢ `inda qabri ras£lika

and make for me at the tomb of Your Messenger,

¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lih¢

may Allah bless him and his Household,

mustaqarran wa qar¡ran

an abode and a dwelling.

You may now pray Almighty Allah for any thing you wish and beseech Him to grant you whatever you need, because any supplication that is said between the adh¡n and Iq¡mah will not be rejected.

After uttering the Iq¡mah, you may say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ إِلَيْكَ تَوَجَّهْتُ

all¡humma ilayka tawajjahtu

O Allah, to You have I turned my face,

wa mar¤¡taka §alabtu

Your pleasure have I sought,

wa thaw¡baka ibtaghaytu

for Your reward have I desired,

wa bika ¡mantu

in You do I believe,

wa `alayka tawakkaltu

and on You do I rely.

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Mu¦ammad and the Household of Mu¦ammad,

wafta¦ mas¡mi`a qalb¢ lidhikrika

open the ears of my hearts to remembering You,

make me stand firmly on the religion of You and Your Prophet,

wa l¡ tuzigh qalb¢ ba`da idh hadaytan¢

make not my hearts to deviate after You have guided me aright,

wa hab l¢ min ladunka ra¦matan

and grant me from You mercy.

innaka anta alwahh¡bu

Surely, You are the most liberal Giver.

You may now prepare yourself for performing the prayer. You must have heart presence and pay attention to your prayer, by considering the humiliation of your situation and the all-greatness and majesty of your Lord to whom you are talking in your prayer. Behave as is you can see Him in front of you and be ashamed of talking to Him with your tongue while your heart is preoccupied by another thing. You may then stand up with respect and reverence, putting your two hands on your thighs opposite to your knees. Separate between your two feet in an amount of three fingers up to one span. Cast your sight on the place of your prostration. You may then intend to perform this Dawn Prayer for seeking nearness to Allah the Exalted. Then, say the Takb¢rat al-I¦r¡m statement (saying: all¡hu-akbar ‘Allah is the Greatest’; the introductory statement to prayer). It is recommended to add statements of Takb¢r (i.e. professing Almighty Allah being the greatest) to it, at each one of which, you may raise your hands to reach the level of the lower part of your ear, turning the palms of your hand towards the kiblah direction. Try to make all your fingers, except the thumb, stick to one another, but not open. You may now say the supplications of the Takb¢r statements, which are as follows:

After the third Takb¢r statement, you may say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ انْتَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ٱلْمُبِينُ

all¡humma anta almaliku al¦aqqu almub¢nu

O Allah, You are verily the King and the Manifest Truth.

il¡ha ill¡ anta sub¦¡naka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

inn¢ ¨alamtu nafs¢

I have wronged myself;

faghfir l¢ dhanb¢

so, (please) forgive my sin.

innah£ l¡ yaghfiru aldhdhun£ba ill¡ anta

Verily, none can forgive sins save You.

After the fifth Takb¢r statement, you may say the following:

لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ

labbayka wa sa`dayka

Here I am responding to You and here I am trying to please You.

walkhayru f¢ yadayka

All goodness is at Your Hand.

walshsharru laysa ilayka

Evil is never ascribed to You.

walmahdiyyu man hadayta

A true guided is he whom You guide.

`abduka wabnu `abdayka

I, Your servant and the son of Your two servants,

dhal¢lun bayna yadayka

am standing in submission before You,

minka wa bika wa laka wa ilayka

and I am from You, through You, to You, and for You.

malja'a wa l¡ manj¡

There is neither haven nor shelter

wa l¡ mafarra minka ill¡ ilayka

nor escape from You except with You.

sub¦¡naka wa ¦an¡nayka

All glory be to You; I am seeking Your kindness.

tab¡rakta wa ta`¡layta

Blessed You are and Exalted You are.

sub¦¡naka rabba albayti al¦ar¡mi

All glory be to You, O Lord of the Sacred House.

After the seventh Takb¢r statement, you may say the following:

وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضَ

wajjahtu wajhiya lilladh¢ fa§ara alssam¡w¡ti wal-ar¤a

I have turned myself to Him Who originated the heavens and the earth,

`¡limi alghaybi walshshah¡dati

the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed,

¦an¢fan musliman

[and I am] upright and Muslim

wa m¡ ana min almushrik¢na

and I am not of the polytheists.

inna ¥al¡t¢ wa nusuk¢

Surely, my prayer, my sacrifice,

wa ma¦y¡ya wa mam¡t¢

my life, and my death

lill¡hi rabbi al`¡lam¢na

are (all) for Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

shar¢ka lah£

No associate has He;

wa bidh¡lika umirtu

and this am I commanded,

wa ana min almuslim¢na

and I am of those who submit.

Before you begin with the recitation (qir¡'ah: reciting certain Qur'¡nic chapters in the prayers), you may say the statement of seeking protection (isti`¡dhah) in a low tone:

اعُوذُ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَانِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ

a`£dhu bill¡hi min alshshay§¡ni alrraj¢mi

I pray Allah’s protection from Satan, the accursed.

First: Imam al-¯¡diq (`a) is reported to have said: Imam `Al¢ Am¢r al-Mu'min¢n (`a) used to say: Whoever says these words, will be added to the group of Mu¦ammad and his Household:

Before commencing a ritual prayer, the following  prayer may be said:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي تَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma inn¢ atawajjah£ ilayka bimu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin

O Allah, I turn my face towards You in the name of Mu¦ammad and Mu¦ammad’s Household,

wa uqaddimuhum bayna yaday ¥alaw¡t¢

present them before You before I begin my prayers,

wa ataqarrabu bihim ilayka

and seek nearness to You in their names.

faj`aln¢ bihim waj¢han

So, in their names, (please) make me of high regard with You

f¢ aldduny¡ wal-¡khirati

in this world and the Hereafter

wa min almuqarrab¢na

and of those drawn near to You.

mananta `alayya bima`rifatihim

You have endued me with the great favor of making me know them;

fakhtim l¢ bi§¡`atihim

so, (please) seal my life with obedience to them,

wa ma`rifatihim wa wil¡yatihim

recognition of them, and loyalty to them,

fa'innah¡ alssa`¡datu

because this is the true happiness.

wakhtim l¢ bih¡

Therefore, (please) seal my life with these things,

fa'innaka `al¡ kulli shay'in qad¢run

for You have power over all things.

Upon accomplishment of the prayer, the following  prayer may be said:

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْنِي مَعَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ij`aln¢ ma`a mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin

O Allah, (please) make me with Mu¦ammad and Mu¦ammad’s Household

f¢ kulli `¡fiyatin wa bal¡'in

in every item of wellbeing and tribulation

waj`aln¢ ma`a mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin

and make me with Mu¦ammad and Mu¦ammad’s Household

f¢ kulli mathwan wa munqalabin

in every place of returning and place of rest.

all¡humma ij`al ma¦y¡ya ma¦y¡hum

O Allah, (please) make me live their lives

wa mam¡t¢ mam¡tahum

and die their death,

waj`aln¢ ma`ahum f¢ almaw¡§ini kullih¡

include me with them in all situations,

wa l¡ tufarriq bayn¢ wa baynahum

and do not depart me from them.

innaka `al¡ kulli shay'in qad¢run

Verily, You have power over all things.

Second: ¯afw¡n al-Jamm¡l is reported to have said: I was once with Imam al-¯¡diq (`a). He directed his face towards the kiblah direction (for performing a prayer) and said the following  prayer before he uttered the takb¢rah al-i¦r¡m statement (i.e. the commencing statement of the ritual prayers):

اَللَّهُمَّ لاَ تُؤْيِسْنِي مِنْ رَوْحِكَ

all¡humma l¡ tu'yisn¢ min raw¦ika

O Allah, (please) do not make me despair of Your soothing mercy,

wa l¡ tuqanni§n¢ min ra¦matika

do not make me lose hope of Your mercy,

wa l¡ tu'minn¢ makraka

and do not make me feel secure against Your plans,

fa'innah£ l¡ ya'manu makra all¡hi ill¡ alqawmu alkh¡sir£na

for none feels secure against Allah’s plans except the losing people.

) Supplication Recited Everyday Between Iqamah And Salaat

Abdul Rahman Ibn Najraan narrates on the authority of Imam Reza (a.s.) that he (a.s.) advised to recite this supplication everyday between Iqamah and Salaat:

O Allah! Lord of this perfect supplication and established prayer, assign to Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his progeny, the rank, right of mediation, excellence, and advantage. With Allah do I commence, from Allah do I seek success, and in the name of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his progeny, do I turn my face (towards Allah). O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, and, in their names, make me worthy of regard in this world and in the Hereafter, and of those drawn near to You.[1]
