(these are) Thy Words, Thy Prophet gave tongue to, (whom) Thou appointed as a Guide for the people, and an uninterrupted closely connected link of protecting friendship between Thee and Thy servants.
allahumma inni nashartu `ahdaka wa kitabaka allahumma faj`al nazary fihi `ibadatan wa qira‘aty fihi fikran wa fikry fihi a`tibaran
O Allah I make publicly known Thy testament and Thy Book. O Allah let me pay full attention to (this) adorable pious work; let me notice and take warning from (this)thoughtful reflection;<
wa la taj`al qira‘aty qira‘atan la tadabbara fiha bali aj`alny atadabbru ayatihi wa ahkamahu Learning the laws of my religion
Do not let me recite for the sake of recitation , paying no attention to its meaning, but let me contemplate over its signs and commands, to know and understand the modus operandi of Thy religion.
wa la taj`al nazary fihi ghaflatan wa la qira‘aty hadharan innaka anta alrra´ufu alrrahimu
Do not let my concentration go slack, nor my recitation be like a delirious monologue. Verily Thou art full of pity, Merciful.

and Your grace, generosity, and kindness to us and Your mercy and favour toward us
—not because of any power that we possessed,
nor because of any devising on our part,
nor because of any strength that we had—
اللهمَّ فَحَبِّبْ إِلَيْنَا حُسْنَ تِلاوَتِهِ،
O Allah, grant us the passion for the charm of its recitation,
O Allah, even as You have sent it down as healing for Your friends, wretchedness for Your enemies,
blindness for the disobedient, and a light for the obedient,
so also, O Allah, make it for us a shield against Your punishment, a bulwark against Your wrath, a safeguard against Your disobedience, a protection from Your displeasure, a guide to Your obedience, and,
on the day we shall encounter You, a light whereby we may walk amid Your creatures, cross safely Your bridge [over hell],to be led by it into Your paradise.
O Allah! Enable us to pursue what it declares as lawful, to avoid what it asserts to be unlawful, to observe its bounds, and to fulfill its obligations.
for You have made it an argument against us, whereby You have cut off our excuses, and granted thereby a blessing, for which we can, never thank You enough!
O Allah! Make it for us a guardian that saves us from stumbles, a guide that directs us to righteous conduct, a guiding helper that saves us from deviation, a helper that gives us vigour in weariness,
and a light on the Day of Darkness, the Day when there is neither earth nor sky, the Day when every striver will be recompensed for what he strived for
االلهمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا رَيّاً يَوْمَ الظَّمَإِ
O Allah! Make it for us a means of slaking our thirst on the day of thirst,
O Allah! Grant us the stations of the martyrs, the life of the felicitous and the company of the prophets. Indeed You hear all supplications!

allahumma inni qad qara’tu ma qadayta min kitabika alladhy anzaltahu `ala nabiyyIka alssadiqi salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi falaka alhamdu rabbana
O Allah I have recited that which Thou commands from Thy Book Thou revealed to Thy truthful Prophet, blessings of Allah be on him and on his children. (All) praise be to our Lord.
O Allah let me be one of those who take to the lawful and keep from the unlawful, accept and show submissionto its clear as well as consimilar commands,
and let me be one of those whom Thou shall raise and exalt, on account of this recitation, on the highest pedestal in the Paradise. Be it so O the Lord of the worlds.
Second dua after the recitation of the Holy Quran from Imam Ja'far ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq (Peace be upon him)
O’ Allah! I have recited that which You have decreed for me to recite from Your Book which You sent upon Your Prophet Muhammad, may Your prayers and peace be upon him, so then praise belongs to You, our Lord. And gratitude belongs to you because of the power and grace given me.
O’ Allah! Place me amongst those people who keep permitted that which You have made permissible, and who forbid that which You have made forbidden, and who avoid sins and believe in its (the Quran) equivocal, unequivocal, abrogating and abrogated verses, and appoint it the healing, bounty, refugee and asset for me.
O God! Make the Quran an instrument of love in my grave and an instrument of love when I am raised up, and raise me for the verses I recited up a stage from the highest of the high, Amin, O Lord of all the Worlds.
O God, bless Muhammad, the messenger and chosen servant, the savior and commander, and the inviter to the way of Yours, and bless Amir al-Mu'minin the inheritor and successor after the Prophet.
Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem. Allaahummaa Innee As’aluka Ikhbaatal Mukhbiteen Wa Ikhlaaswal Mooqineen Wa Muraafaqatal Abraari Wa Istihqaaq Haqaaikil Eemaani Wal Ghaneemata Min Kulli Birrin Was-Salaamata Min Kulli Ismin Wa Wujooba Rahmatik Wa Azaaima Maghfiratik Wal Fawza Bil Jannati Wa Najaatam-Minan-Naar.
"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
O Allah! I ask You for the humility of the humble, the sincerity of the convinced, the companionship of the righteous, the realization of the truths of faith, the attainment of every virtue, safety from every sin, the certainty of Your mercy, the determination of Your forgiveness, success in attaining Paradise, and salvation from the Fire."
Dua no 42 from Sahifa upon 'Completion' of reciting quran
Supplication after the recitation of the Holy Quran from the beginning to the end (Khatm al-Qurʾān)-Quoted from Imam Ali (Peace be upon him)
"My beloved, the Messenger of God- may Allah bless him and his household and give them peace- had ordered me to read this prayer at the Khatm al-Qurʾān:"
Allaahummar h’amnee bitaraki maa’a’s’eeka abadam maa abqaitanee farh’amni min takallufi maa yai’neenee warzuqnee h’usnal manz’ari feemaa yurz”eeka a’nnee walzim qalbee h’ifz’a kitaabika kamaa a’llamtanee warzuqnee wa atluwahu a’lan naj’willadhee yurz”eeka a’nnee.
O Allah bestow upon me Your mercy so that I am away from Your disobedience always, and bestow the grace that I am not involved in unbearable difficulties, and grant me the goodness for deeds which make You happy with me, and make the memorizing of Your book (the Holy Quran) obligatory on me as You have granted me it’s knowledge, and bestow Your grace so that I recite it in the way Your pleasure is gained.
O Allah illuminate my eyes, expand my breast, illuminate my heart and my tongue flows with the Holy Quran. Give me the strength so that I use my body for the Holy Quran, grant me Your help because there is no helper other than You and there is no god other than You
And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
(Sūrat al-Qamar, No.54, Āyat 17)
The above verse has been repeated four times in Sūrat al-Qamar, emphasizing the fact that the Quran is easy for remembrance. The words ‘easy for remembrance’ have been interpreted differently by Mufassirūn. ‘Allāmah Tabātabā’ī says it means that elevated teachings and concepts have been made easy for the human being to understand. Others like al-Tabarsī say it means it is easy for recitation and memorization. Shahid Murtadhā Mutahharī in his book Ashnā’i bā Quran says it means that Quran is more amenable to memorization than other books. The brain can memorize its verses when exposed to them repeatedly, something that is harder to do with other prose or poetry.
Other verses of Quran also emphasize the memorization of Quran. In Sūrat al-Ahzāb verse 34, Allah tells the wives of the Prophet sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa-ālihi wasallam to remember the verses recited in their homes:
And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom. The word used here is ‘wadhkurna’. Dhikr, as opposed to forgetfulness, implies to remember or to memorize. The Quran also talks about the chests being the receptacles of its verses:
Rather, the Quran is distinct verses [preserved] within the chests of those who have been given knowledge (Q 29:49).
Many Hadith also emphasize the memorization of Quran. The Prophet (s) has said: The most honored servants with Allah after the Prophets are the scholars, then those who memorize the Quran. They will leave the world the way the Prophets left, be raised from their graves with the Prophets, pass on the Sirat with the Prophets, and receive the reward of the Prophets. (Majlisī, Bihārul Anwar, 92:17)
Reciters and memorizers of Quran were highly regarded by the Prophet (s) and Amirul Mu’minīn (a) and were respected and encouraged materially and spiritually by them. In the early days of Islam, the criterion for the precedence of individuals in important and sensitive social tasks was the knowledge of recitation and memorization of the Quran. Prophet Muhammad sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa-ālihi wasallam appointed reciters and memorizers to positions such as commanding and leading the congregation. He decreed that every Muslim who had learned, collected, or memorized the Quran more than others should command others and lead funeral prayers for the dead. In the battle of ‘Uhud when they wanted to bury the bodies of the martyrs, the martyr who knew more was placed in front. The burial place of the one who had memorized more verses was placed closer to Hamza.
One day, the Prophet of Islam (s) while sending a group on a journey, asked them: ‘How much do you know from the Quran?’ One of them, who was the youngest, replied: ‘I know Sūrat Al-Baqarah and a few other verses from the Quran’. The Prophet (s) told the group that he would be their leader. They protested, saying he was the youngest. The Prophet (s) replied: ‘He knows Sūrat Al-Baqarah’.
Memorization of Quran, whenever mentioned, does not imply the whole Quran. Memorization to whatever extent possible is good. We find in Islamic history that those who memorized sūrhas al-Baqarah and Āli ‘Imrān, were regarded among the prominent companions. The verses of the Quran remind us that it is possible and even easy to memorize the Quran, at least parts of it, if not the entire Quran. Even though it may seem difficult, once the journey of memorization begins and is constant, the human mind can become a receptacle of the verses of the Quran.
May the Almighty make us among those whose chests contain some verses of the Quran.
