In his book of Mi¥b¡¦ al-Z¡'ir, the sublime Sayyid `Al¢ ibn ±¡w£s has mentioned two forms of ziy¡rah of the Holy Imams’ descendants to both of which we will refer hereinafter.

He says: If you intend to visit one of the Holy Imams’ descendants, such as al-Q¡sim the son of Imam al-K¡¨im, al-`Abb¡s the son of Imam `Al¢, or `Al¢ the son of Imam al-°usayn who was martyred at the Battle of al-±aff, or any other son or descendant of one of the Holy Imams, you should stop at the tomb and say the following words:
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ ايُّهَا ٱلسَّيِّدُ ٱلزَّكِيُّ |
alssal¡mu `alayka ayyuh¡ alssayyidu alzzakiyyu |
Peace be upon you, O bright master, |
ٱلطَّاهِرُ ٱلْوَلِيُّ |
al§§¡hiru alwaliyyu |
pure saint, |
وَٱلدَّاعِي ٱلْحَفِيُّ |
waldd¡`¢ al¦afiyyu |
and affectionate herald. |
اشْهَدُ انَّكَ قُلْتَ حَقّاً |
ashhadu annaka qulta ¦aqqan |
I bear witness that you said the truth, |
وَنَطَقْتَ حَقّاً وَصِدْقاً |
wa na§aqta ¦aqqan wa ¥idqan |
uttered truly and honestly, |
وَدَعَوْتَ إِلَىٰ مَوْلاَيَ وَمَوْلاَكَ عَلاَنِيَةً وَسِرّاً |
wa da`awta il¡ mawl¡ya wa mawl¡ka `al¡niyatan wa sirran |
and called to my and your master openly and secretly. |
فَازَ مُتَّبِعُكَ |
f¡za muttabi`uka |
Winner is your follower |
وَنَجَا مُصَدِّقُكَ |
wa naj¡ mu¥addiquka |
and saved is your believer, |
وَخَابَ وَخَسِرَ مُكَذِّبُكَ وَٱلْمُتَخَلِّفُ عَنْكَ |
wa kh¡ba wa khasira mukadhdhibuka walmutakhallifu `anka |
but disappointing and losing are your deniers and dissenters. |
إِشْهَدْ لِي بِهٰذِهِ ٱلشَّهَادَةِ |
ishhad l¢ bih¡dhih¢ alshshah¡dati |
Bear this testimony for me |
لاِكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْفَائِزِينَ بِمَعْرِفَتِكَ وَطَاعَتِكَ |
li'ak£na min alf¡'iz¢na bima`rifatika wa §¡`atika |
so that I will be of the winners because of recognizing you, obedience to you, |
وَتَصْدِيقِكَ وَٱتَّبَاعِكَ |
wa ta¥d¢qika wattib¡`ika |
giving credence to you, and following you. |
وَٱلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدِي وَٱبْنَ سَيِّدِي |
walssal¡mu `alayka y¡ sayyid¢ wabna sayyid¢ |
Peace be upon you, O my master and son of my master. |
انْتَ بَابُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُؤْتَىٰ مِنْهُ |
anta b¡bu all¡hu almu't¡ minhu |
You are the door to Allah from which He is come |
وَٱلْمَاخُوذُ عَنْهُ |
walma'kh£dhu `anhu |
and from which everything is received. |
اتَيْتُكَ زَائِراً |
ataytuka z¡'iran |
I have come to you, visiting you |
وَحَاجَاتِي لَكَ مُسْتَوْدِعاً |
wa ¦¡j¡t¢ laka mustawdi`an |
and entrusting with you all my needs. |
وَهَا انَا ذَا اسْتَوْدِعُكَ دِينِي وَامَانَتِي |
wa h¡ ana dh¡ astawdi`uka d¢n¢ wa am¡nat¢ |
Here I am entrusting with you my religion, my trust, |
وَخَواتِيمَ عَمَلِي |
wa khaw¡t¢ma `amal¢ |
the sealings of my deed, |
وَجَوَامِعَ امَلِي |
wa jaw¡mi`a amal¢ |
and my entire hope |
إِلَىٰ مُنْتَهَىٰ اجَلِي |
il¡ muntah¡ ajal¢ |
up to the end of my lifetime. |
وَٱلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ |
walssal¡mu `alayka wa ra¦matu all¡hi wa barak¡tuh£ |
Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you. |
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ جَدِّكَ ٱلْمُصْطَفَىٰ |
alssal¡mu `al¡ jaddika almu¥§af¡ |
Peace be upon your forefather the Chosen Prophet. |
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ابِيكَ ٱلرِّضَا ٱلْمُرْتَضَىٰ |
alssal¡mu `al¡ ab¢ka almurta¤¡ |
Peace be upon your father the well-contented and well-pleased. |
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلسَّيِّدَيْنِ ٱلْحَسَنِ وَٱلْحُسَيْنِ |
alssal¡mu `al¡ alssayyidayni al¦asani wal¦usayni |
Peace be upon the two chiefs al-°asan and al-°usayn. |
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ خَدِيـجَةَ |
alssal¡mu `al¡ khad¢jata |
Peace be upon Khad¢jah |
امِّ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ |
ummi sayyidati nis¡'i al`¡lam¢na |
the mother of the doyenne of the women of the world. |
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ فَاطِمَةَ امِّ ٱلائِمَّةِ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ |
alssal¡mu `al¡ f¡§imata ummi al-a'immati al§§¡hir¢na |
Peace be upon F¡§imah the mother of the Immaculate Imams. |
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلنُّفُوسِ ٱلْفَاخِرَةِ |
alssal¡mu `al¡ alnnuf£si alf¡khirati |
Peace be upon the excellent souls, |
بُحُورِ ٱلْعُلُومِ ٱلزَّاخِرَةِ |
bu¦£ri al`ul£mi alzz¡khirati |
the oceans of the abundant knowledge, |
شُفَعَائِي فِي ٱلآخِرَةِ |
shufa`¡'¢ f¢ al-¡khirati |
my interceders in the Hereafter, |
وَاوْلِيَائِي عِنْدَ عَوْدِ ٱلرُّوحِ إِلَىٰ ٱلْعِظَامِ ٱلنَّاخِرَةِ |
wa awliy¡'¢ `inda `awdi alrr£¦i il¡ al`i¨¡mi alnn¡khirati |
and my masters when the soul shall be returned to the rotten bones; |
ائِمَّةِ ٱلْخَلْقِ |
a'immati alkhalqi |
namely, the leaders of the creatures |
وَوُلاَةِ ٱلْحَقِّ |
wa wul¡ti al¦aqqi |
and the true masters. |
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ ايُّهَا ٱلشَّخْصُ ٱلشَّرِيفُ |
alssal¡mu `alayka ayyuh¡ alshshakh¥u alshshar¢fu |
Peace be upon you, O honorable, |
ٱلطَّاهِرُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ |
al§§¡hiru alkar¢mu |
immaculate, and noble person. |
اشْهَدُ انْ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ |
ashhadu an l¡ ilaha ill¡ all¡hu |
I bear witness that there is no god save Allah, |
وَانَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَمُصْطَفَاهُ |
wa anna mu¦ammadan `abduh£ wa mu¥§af¡hu |
Mu¦ammad is His servant and chosen prophet, |
وَانَّ عَلِيّاً وَلِيُّهُ وَمُجْتَبَاهُ |
wa anna `aliyyan waliyyuh£ wa mujtab¡hu |
`Al¢ is His intimate and selected servant, |
وَانَّ ٱلإِمَامَةَ فِي وُلْدِهِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ |
wa anna al-im¡mata f¢ wuldih¢ il¡ yawmi aldd¢ni |
and Imamate is for his descendants up to the Judgment Day. |
نَعْلَمُ ذٰلِكَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ |
na`lamu dh¡lika `ilma alyaq¢ni |
We recognize so with certain knowledge, |
وَنَحْنُ لِذٰلِكَ مُعْتَقِدُونَ |
wa na¦nu lidh¡lika mu`taqid£na |
we believe in so, |
وَفِي نَصْرِهِمْ مُجْتَهِدُونَ |
wa f¢ na¥rihim mujtahid£na |
and we exert all our efforts in supporting them. |
