After you attain reverence, submission, and tenderheartedness, you may enter the shrine with your right foot, and say the following:

Allah is greatly the Greatest.

You may then move toward their tombs, face them, turn the back to the kiblah direction, and say the following:

You may then raise your head toward the sky and say the following:

May Allah send blessings upon Mu¦ammad and the Household of Mu¦ammad.

You may now pray Almighty Allah for anything you want.

In Tahdh¢b al-A¦k¡m, Shaykh al-±£s¢ says: You may then offer the Ziy¡rah Prayer (¥al¡t al-ziy¡rah) in eight units; each two units are for one of the (four) Imams.

Shaykh al-±£s¢ and Sayyid Ibn ±¡w£s say that if you want to bid farewell to the four Imams, you may say the following:

alssal¡mu `alaykum a'immata alhud¡ wa ra¦matu all¡hi wa barak¡tuh£

I entrust you with Allah([1]) and send salutations to you.

and in that which you have conveyed and that to which you have guided.

all¡humma faktubn¡ ma`a alshsh¡hid¢na

O Allah, then write us down among those who bear witness.

You may then supplicate Almighty Allah as earnestly as possible and pray Him to grant you another opportunity to visit these holy tombs.

It is worth mentioning that in Bi¦¡r al-Anw¡r, `All¡mah al-Majlis¢ has cited another lengthy form of ziy¡rah of these four Imams (‘a). Rather, I will mention no more than the foresaid forms. As a matter of fact, the most favorable form of ziy¡rah, in the words of `All¡mah al-Majlis¢ and other scholars, is the so-called al-Ziy¡rah al-J¡mi`ah (the comprehensive), which will be cited in this book.

In the first section of this book, I have cited other forms of ziy¡rah of Imam al-°asan (`a) on Mondays and the three Imams (`a) altogether on Tuesdays. Therefore, ignore not these forms.

Although I usually mention a form of invocation of blessings along with the forms of ziy¡rah that are relegated to each Imam, I have not mentioned such a form for the Holy Imams (`a) whom are buried at al-Baq¢` Cemetery. Rather, I will mention such a form at the end of this section of Ziy¡rahs. Therefore, refer to it there so that you will add to your good deeds and increase your rewards through invoking Almighty Allah’s blessings on these immaculate Imams (`a).

In fact, my great desire to visit these holy places has prompted me, while I am deserted and depressed, to engage my mind with quoting several poetic verses, suitable for the occasion, from the famous poem of His Eminence Shaykh al-Azr¢—the most virtuous and the panegyrist of the Holy Prophet’s Household—may Allah be pleased with him. In this respect, it is reported that Shaykh Mu¦ammad °asan al-Jaw¡hir¢—the master of all jurisprudents, the seal of scholars, and the author of the famous book of Jaw¡hir al-Kal¡m—used to say, “I wish that the reward of al-Azr¢’s famous poem would be mine and, instead, the reward of compiling my Jaw¡hir al-Kal¡m would be his.”

At any rate, the following are several verses of the poem involved:

Those hearts are fazed by passion and those eyes are bled by weeping

The most astounding mishaps had never made me weep; but love did!

Everyday, misfortunes are repeated on us, even Mount Ra¤w¡ cannot encounter them!

Nothing can rescue from them except a pass from the Chief of Messengers, ±¡h¡.([2])

He is the fortress for all the fearful and he is the most faithful and the most honest Arab.

He is the source of the entire knowledge. Since beginning, the news of all creatures are with him.

Some of his knowledge and indulgence flew from him; so, the intellects took their sanity from these.

The heavens and the earth spoke highly of his name as obviously as the sun declaring morning.

Despite the variety of their languages, each people have been circulating virtues from him.

As it became jubilant over mentioning his name, the lowest earth overtopped the highest sky.

From the Essence of Holiness, he won a self, even the Prophets were perplexed over its significance.

Do not engage your mind with grasping A¦mad’s excellences, for they are the figure that you shall never understand.

There is no creation of Allah greater than he is! He is the utmost purpose that He has intended.

As He turned the east and the west upside down, Allah singled out the self of A¦mad and thus decided on it.

I never forget his sacred situations made by his piety, and so elevated they are!

And I never forget these noble men in houses that Allah permitted to be paid tribute.

They are masters who wanted nothing but Allah’s pleasure and Allah wanted not but their pleasure.

Out of His perfection, He gave them exclusive worth and conferred upon them with the most exalted names.

They are but unseen treasures of the Holy Throne. Glory be to Him Who showed them!

Their tongues speak on behalf of Allah. They are the pens of His wisdom.

They are the sound eyes guiding all blind eyes.

They are knowledgeable, leaders, and wise. Even stars were guided, would they follow them.

After I have won loyalty to them,

I do not care if the skies fall on the earth!

([1]) The Arabic phrase “astawdi`ukall¡h (I entrust you with Allah)” is a statement of bidding farewell.

([2]) ±¡h¡ is one of the names of the Holy Prophet Mu¦ammad (peace be upon him and his Household). It is mentioned in the Holy Qur'¡n: “±¡h¡: We have not sent down the Qur'¡n to you to be an occasion for your distress! (20:1-2)”
