اَللّهُمَّ إنَّكَ قُلْتَ فِي كِتابِكَ الْمُنْزَلِ:

all¡humma innaka qulta fiy kit¡bika almunzali:

O Allah: You have said in Your revealed Book:

”شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ.“

“shahru Ramadhana alladhiy unzila f¢hi alqur’¡nu.”

“The month of Ramadhan in which the Quran was revealed…”

وَهذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضانَ

wah¡dh¡ shahru Ramadhana

And this month of Ramadhan

وَقَدْ تَصَرَّمَ

waqad ta¥arrama

is about to slip away.

فَأسْألُكَ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ

fasaluka bi£ajhika alkar¢mi

I thus beseech You in the name of Your Noble Face,

وَكَلِماتِكَ التّامَّةِ

wakalim¡tika altt¡mmati

And Your Perfect Words,

إنْ كانَ بَقِيَ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ لَمْ تَغْفِرْهُ لي

in k¡na baq¢a `alayya dhanbun lam taghfirhu l¢

If I am still liable to a sin that You have not yet forgiven

أوْ تُرِيدُ أنْ تُعَذِّبَنِي عَلَيْهِ

aw tur¢du an tu`adhdhibaniy `alayhi

or You want to punish me for it,

أوْ تُقايِسَنِي بِهِ

aw tuq¡yisaniy bihi

or to retaliate upon me because of it,

أنْ لا يَطْلُعَ فَجْرُ هَذِهِ اللَيْلَةِ

an l¡ ya§lu`a fajru h¡dhihii allaylati

(I beseech You that) before dawn of this night rises

أوْ يَتَصَرَّمُ هذا الشَّهْرُ

aw yata¥arramu hdh¡ alshshahru

And before this moth elapses

إلاَّ وَقَدْ غَفَرْتَهُ لي

ill¡ waqad ghafartahu l¢

(please) forgive it for me;

يا أرْحَمَ الرّاحِمِينَ.

y¡ ar¦ama alrr¡¦im¢na.

O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

اَللّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ بِمَحامِدِكَ كُلِّها

all¡humma laka al¦amdu bima¦¡midika kullih¡

O Allah: all praise be to You in all expressions of praise—

أوَّلِها وَآخِرِها

awwalih¡ wa-¡khirih¡

The first and the last expressions;

ما قُلْتَ لِنَفْسِكَ مِنْها

m¡ qulta linafsika minh¡

Expressions that You have said about Yourself,

وَما قالَ الْخَلائِقُ الْحامِدونَ

wam¡ q¡la alkhal¡iiqu al¦¡mid£na

And expressions that have been used by the created beings;

الْمُجْتَهِدونَ الْمَعْدودونَ

¡lmujtahid£na alma`d£d£na

The beings that are diligent, selected,

الْمُوَقِّرونَ ذِكْرِكَ

¡lmuwaqqir£na dhikrika

Revering their mention of You,

وَالشُّكْرَ لَكَ

walshshukra laka

And their thanking You,

الَّذينَ أعَنْتَهُمْ عَلى أداءِ حَقِّكَ

¡lladh¢na a`antahum `al¡ ad¡‘i ¦aqqika

Whom You helped carry out Your duty that is incumbent upon them,

مِنْ أصْنافِ خَلْقِكَ

min a¥n¡fi khalqika

From among the varieties of Your creatures;

مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبينَ

mina almal¡iikati almuqarrab¢na

Such as the Favorite Angels,

وَالنَّبِيِّينَ وَالْمُرْسَلِينَ

walnnabiyy¢na walmursal¢na

The Prophets, the Messengers,

وَأصْنافِ النّاطِقينَ

wa-a¥n¡fi alnn¡§iq¢na

And the other varieties who speak of Your praise

وَالْمُسَبِّحِينَ لَكَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْعالَمِينَ

walmusabbi¦¢na laka min jam¢`i al`¡lam¢na

And glorify You from among all the creatures.

عَلى أنَّكَ بَلَّغْتَنا شَهْرَ رَمَضانَ

`al¡ annaka ballaghtan¡ shahra Ramadhana

(Praise be to You for) You have allowed us to witness the month of Ramadhan,

وَعَلَيْنا مِنْ نِعَمِكَ

wa`alayn¡ min ni`amika

While we are covered by Your graces

وَعِنْدَنا مِنْ قِسَمِكَ وَإحْسانِكَ

wa`indan¡ min qisamika wai¦s¡nika

And we are enjoying Your bounties and favors

وَتَظاهُرِ إمْتِنانِكَ

watazh¡huri imtin¡nika

And Your evident conferrals.

فَبِذَلِكَ لَكَ مُنْتَهى الْحَمْدِ

fabidhalika laka muntah¡ al¦amdi

For all that, the ultimate praise be to You,

الْخالِدِ الدّائِمِ

¡lkh¡lidi aldd¡iimi

Praise that is perpetual and ceaseless

الرّاكِدِ الْمُخَلَّدِ السَّرْمَدِ

¡lrr¡kidi almukhalladi alssarmadi

And endless and eternal and everlasting

الَّذي لا يَنْفَدُ طُولَ الأبَدِ

¡lladhy l¡ yanfadu §uwla alabadi

Praise that never ends evermore.

جَلَّ ثَناؤكَ

jalla §han¡u´ka

Splendid be the praising of You,

أعَنْتَنا عَلَيْهِ حَتّى قَضَيْنا صِيامَهُ وَقِيامَهُ

a`antan¡ `alayhi ¦att¡ qa¤ayn¡ ¥y¡mahu waqy¡mahu

For You have helped us accomplish our fasting and acts of worship in this month,

مِنْ صَلاةٍ وَما كانَ مِنّا فيهِ مِنْ بِرٍّ

min ¥alatin wam¡ k¡na minn¡ f¢hi min birrin

Including prayers and whatever good deed that we have done during this month

أوْ شُكْرٍ أوْ ذِكْرٍ.

aw shukrin aw dhikrin.

As well as all praise and mention of You.

اَللّهُمَّ فَتَقَبَّلْهُ مِنّا بِأحْسَنِ قَبولِكَ

all¡humma fataqabbalhu minn¡ bia¦sani qab£lika

O Allah: (please) accept all that from us with the most excellent of Your approval

وَتَجاوُزِكَ وَعَفْوِكَ

wataj¡£uzika wa`af£ika

And Your overlooking and Your pardoning

وَصَفْحِكَ وَغُفْرانِكَ

wa¥af¦ika waghufr¡nika

And Your excusing and Your forgiving

وَحَقِيقَةِ رِضْوانِكَ

wa¦aq¢qati ri¤£¡nika

And the actuality of Your pleasure

حَتّى تُظْفِرَنا فِيهِ بِكُلِّ خَيْرٍ مَطْلوبٍ

¦att¡ tuzhfiran¡ f¢hi bikulli khayrin ma§l£bin

So that You may make us win all good turns that is besought

وَجَزيلِ عَطاءٍ مَوهُوبٍ

wajaz¢li `a§¡‘in mawhuwbin

And the abundant share from any gifted bestowal

وَتُوَقِّيَنا فِيهِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَرْهوبٍ

watuwaqq¢an¡ f¢hi min kulli marh£bin

And that You save us from any dangerous matter,

أوْ بَلاءٍ مَجْلوبٍ

aw bal¡‘in majl£bin

Or any anticipated misfortune

أوْ ذَنْبٍ مَكْسوبٍ.

aw dhanbin maks£bin.

Or any committed sin.

اَللّهُمَّ إنّي أسْألُكَ بِعَظيمِ ما سَألَكَ بِهِ أحَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

all¡humma inny asaluka bi`azh¢mi m¡ sa-alaka bihi a¦adun min khalqika

O Allah: I beseech You in the name of the greatest of all these by which any of Your servants have besought You,

مِنْ كَريمِ أسْمائِكَ

min kar¢mi asm¡iika

Including Your Noble Names,

وَجَميلِ ثَنائِكَ

wajam¢li §han¡iika

And the excellent praising of You

وَخاصَّةِ دُعائِكَ

wakh¡¥¥ati du`¡’ika

And private supplication to You

أنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an tu¥all¢a `al¡ Muhammadin wa-¡li Muhammadin

That You may send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَأنْ تَجْعَلَ شَهْرَنا هَذا أعْظَمَ شَهْرِ رَمَضانَ مَرَّ عَلَيْنا

wa-an taj`ala shahran¡ h¡dh¡ a`zhama shahri Ramadhana marra `alayn¡

And You may decide this month of Ramadhan to be the greatest month in blessings that we have ever witnessed

مُنْذُ أُنْزِلْنا إلى الدُّنْيا بَرَكَةً

mundhu aunziln¡ il¡ aldduny¡ barakatan

Since we were sent down to this world,

في عِصْمَةِ دِينِي

fy `i¥mati d¢n¢

As regarding protection of my religion,

وَخَلاصِ نَفْسِي

wakhal¡¥i nafs¢

And redemption of myself

وَقَضاءِ حَوائِجِي

waqa¤¡‘i ¦aw¡’ij¢

And settlement of my needs

وَتُشَفِّعَنِي في مَسائِلِي

watushaffi`aniy fy mas¡’il¢

And that You may accept my intercession to You concerning Your settlement of my requests

وَتَمامِ النِّعْمَةِ عَلَيَّ

watam¡mi alnni`mati `alayya

And Your perfecting Your graces upon me

وَصَرْفِ السّوءِ عَنّي

wa¥arfi alss£‘i `ann¢

And Your keeping evil away from me

وَلِباسِ الْعافِيَةِ لي فِيهِ

walib¡si al`¡f¢ati ly f¢hi

And Your dressing me with well-being during this month,

وَأنْ تَجْعَلَني بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِمَّنْ خِرْتَ لَهُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ

wan taj`alany bira¦matika mimman khirta lahu laylata alqadri

And that You may include me, out of Your mercy, with those whom You allowed to obtain the benefits of the Grand Night

وَجَعَلْتَها لَهُ خَيْراً مِنْ ألْفِ شَهْرٍ

waja`altah¡ lahu khayran min alfi shahrin

And those for whom You have decided this Night to be better than one thousand months,

في أعْظَمِ الأجْرِ

fy a`zhami alajri

As regarding obtaining its vastest rewards,

وَكَرائِمِ الذُّخْرِ

wakar¡iimi aldhdhukhri

And its noblest gifts

وَحُسْنِ الشُّكْرِ

wa¦usni alshshukri

And approving praiseworthiness

وَطولِ العُمْرِ

wa§£li al`umri

And obtaining long lifetime

وَدَوامِ الْيُسْرِ.

wadaw¡mi al¢usri.

And perpetuity of comfort.

اَللّهُمَّ وَأسْألُكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ وَطَوْلِكَ

all¡humma wasaluka bira¦matika wa§awlika

O Allah: I also beseech You in the name of Your mercy and Your beneficence

وَعَفْوِكَ وَنَعْمائِكَ

wa`af£ika wana`m¡iika

And Your pardon and Your graces

وَجَلالِكَ وَقديمِ إحْسانِكَ وَامْتِنانِكَ

wajal¡lika waqd¢mi i¦s¡nika wamtin¡nika

And Your majesty and Your eternal favoring and conferral

أنْ لا تَجْعِلَهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنّا لِشَهْرِ رَمَضانَ

an l¡ taj`ilahu ¡khira al`ahdi minn¡ lishahri Ramadhana

That You may not decide this month of Ramadhan to be the last one in our lifetime;

حَتّى تُبَلِّغَناهُ مِنْ قابِلٍ عَلى أحْسَنِ حالٍ

¦att¡ tuballighan¡hu min q¡bilin `al¡ a¦sani ¦¡lin

Rather, You may decide us to catch the coming month of Ramadhan while we enjoy the best of manners

وَتُعَرِّفَني هِلالَهُ مَعَ النّاظِرِينَ إلَيْهِ وَالْمُعْتَرِفينَ لَهُ

watu`arrifany hil¡lahu ma`a alnn¡zhir¢na ilayhi walmu`tarif¢na lahu

And that You may decide us to see the new moon of the next month of Ramadhan by including me with those who will see it and realize its value

في أعْفى عافِيَتِكَ

fy a`f¡ `¡f¢atika

While I am enjoying the best wellbeing

وَأنْعَمِ نِعْمَتِكَ

wan`ami ni`matika

And the most blissful of Your bounties

وَأوْسَعِ رَحْمَتِكَ

Wa’awsa`i ra¦matika

And the most expansive of Your mercy

وَأجْزَلِ قِسَمِكَ

wajzali qisamika

And the most abundant of the share of Your sustenance that You decide for me.

يا رَبِّيَ الَّذي لَيْسَ لي رَبٌّ غَيْرُهُ

y¡ rabb¢a alladhy laysa ly rabbun ghayruhu

O my Lord save Whom I have no lord;

لا يَكونُ هَذا الوَداعُ مِنّي لَهُ وَداعَ فَناءٍ

l¡ yak£nu h¡dh¡ al£ad¡`u minny lahu wad¡`a fan¡‘in

(please) do not decide that this words of bidding the month of Ramadhan farewell to be the last farewell after which there will be my termination

وَلا آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنّي لِلِّقاءِ

wal¡ ¡khira al`ahdi minny lilliq¡‘i

And do not decide this time to be the last of my meeting the month of Ramadhan;

حَتّى تُرِيَنّيهِ مِنْ قابِلٍ في أوْسَعِ النِّعَمِ وأفْضَلِ الرَّجاءِ

¦att¡ tur¢ann¢hi min q¡bilin fy awsa`i alnni`ami waf¤ali alrraj¡‘i

Rather, You may decide that You will enable me to witness the coming Ramadhan while I am enjoying the most expansive graces and attaining the best of my hopes

وأنَا لَكَ عَلى أحْسَنِ الْوَفاءِ

wan¡ laka `al¡ a¦sani al£af¡‘i

And I am loyal to You in the most faithful manner.

إنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعاءِ.

innaka sam¢`u alddu`¡‘i.

Verily, You are the Hearer of prayers.

اَللّهُمَّ اسْمَعْ دُعائي

all¡humma asma` du`¡’¢

O Allah: (please) respond to my prayer,

وَارْحَمْ تَضَرُّعي وَتَذَلُّلي لَكَ

war¦am ta¤arru`y watadhalluly laka

And have mercy upon my acquiescence and submission before You

وَاسْتِكانَتِي وَتَوَكُّلي عَلَيْكَ

wastik¡natiy watawakkuly `alayka

As well as my humbleness and reliance upon You,

وَأنا لَكَ مُسَلِّمٌ

wan¡ laka musallimun

While I am totally subservient to You;

لا أرْجو نَجاحاً وَلا مُعافاةً

l¡ arjw naj¡¦an wal¡ mu`¡fatan

I hope success and wellbeing

وَلا تَشْريفاً وَلا تَبْليغاً إلاَّ بِكَ وَمِنْكَ

wal¡ tashr¢fan wal¡ tabl¢ghan ill¡ bika waminka

And honoring and attainment of my hopes from none save You and through none save You;

فَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ

f¡mnun `alayya

So, (please) do this favor to me—

جَلَّ ثَناؤكَ

jalla §han¡u´ka

Splendid be the praising of You,

وَتَقَدَّسَتْ أسْماؤكَ

wataqaddasat asm¡u´ka

And sacred be Your Names—

بِتَبْليغي شَهْرَ رَمَضانَ وَأنا مُعافىً مِنْ كُلِّ مَكْروهٍ وَمَحْذورٍ

bitabl¢ghy shahra Ramadhana wan¡ mu`¡fan min kulli makr£hin wama¦dh£rin

By allowing me to witness the (coming) month of Ramadhan while I am delivered from any apprehensive and fearful matter

وَمِنْ جَمِيعِ البَوائِقِ،

wamin jam¢`i albaw¡’iqi,

And from all misfortunes.

اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذي أعانَنا عَلى صِيامِ هَذا الشَّهْرِ وَقِيامِهِ

al¦amdu lill¡hi alladhy a`¡nan¡ `al¡ ¥y¡mi h¡dh¡alshshahri waqy¡mihi

All praise be to Allah Who has helped us observe fasting during this month and do acts of worship

حَتّى بَلَّغَني آخِرَ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْهُ.

¦att¡ ballaghany ¡khira laylatin minhu.

Until I am witnessing the last night of this month.
