The First Night & DAY of Rajab -  Mafatihul jinan   Rajab Month main page click here

1st  -birth of Imam Baqir (as)  |   First 'Day' Amal     Pdf page  Al Mubin Pdf

A number of rites have been reported for the First 'Night' in Rajab:-

Referring to the recommended rites at the first night of Rajab, Shaykh al-±£s¢ has mentioned, in his book of Mi¥b¡¦ al-Mutahajjid, that Abu’l-Bukhtar¢ Wahab ibn Wahab has narrated on the authority of Imam al-¯¡diq (`a) on the authority of his father (`a) on the authority of his grandfather (`a) who said that Imam `Al¢ (`a) used to devote himself to acts of worship in an exclusive way at four nights, (1) the first night of Rajab, (2) the middle night (i.e. fifteen) of Sha`b¡n, (3) the `«d al-Fi§r Night (i.e. the first night of Shaww¡l), and (4) the Na¦r Night (the tenth of Dhu’l-°ijjah).

On can look for the new moon and recite the supplication below. It is also recommended that within this dua, when we reach to the stage when we ask for help during the months of Sha`ban and Ramadhan that we recite this part with extra attention should continuously recite it – repeating it often and frequently so that through this prayer and supplication, we can be completely ready to enter into those next two months.

First: At the sight of the new moon, it is recommended to say the following prayer: Image

O Allah, cause it (i.e. the moon) to appear carrying for us security, faith,

all¡humma ahillah£ `alayn¡ bil-amni wal-¢m¡ni

safety, and Islam.

walssal¡mati wal-isl¡mi

Your and my Lord is Allah, the Glorified and Majestic.

rabb¢ wa rabbuka all¡hu `azza wa jalla

It has been also reported that when his eyes fell on the new moon of Rajab, the Holy Prophet (¥) used to say the following:

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي رَجَبٍ وَشَعْبَانَ

all¡humma b¡rik lan¡ f¢ rajabin wa sha`b¡na

O Allah, (please do) pour out Your blessings upon us in Rajab and Sha`b¡n.

wa ballighn¡ shahra rama¤¡na

make us reach Rama¤¡n,

wa a`inn¡ `al¡ al¥¥iy¡mi

and help us observe fasting,

walqiy¡mi

do acts of worship,

wa ¦if¨i allis¡ni

suppress our tongues (from saying anything improper),

wa gha¤¤i alba¥ari

and cast down our eyes (against what is forbidden for us to look at).

wa l¡ taj`al ¦a¨¨an¡ minhu alj£`a wal`a§asha

Do not make our share of Rama¤¡n is only hunger and thirst.

Second: It is highly advisable to perform Ghusl at the first night of Rajab. In this respect, some scholars have reported the Holy Prophet (¥) as saying, “Whoever receives the month of Rajab and bathes himself in the first, middle, and last of it, will be released from all of his sins to return as pure as the day of his birth.”

Third: It is recommended to visit the shrine/Recite Ziarat of Imam al-°usayn (`a).  Pdf

Fourth: It is recommended to offer, after the Maghrib Prayer, a twenty unit prayer and to recite in each unit S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah once and S£rah al-Taw¦¢d once, and to separate between each couple of units with tasl¢m. Whoever offers this prayer, his family members, property, sons, and he will be kept saved from harm, rescued against the grave torture, and pass the Sir¡§ as swiftly as lightning without being called to account.

Fifth: After the `Isha' Prayer, it is recommended to offer a two unit prayer in the first unit of which S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah should be recited once, Surah Inshirah94 Mp3 ) recited once, and Surah al-Tawhid recited three times. In the second unit, Surahs al-Fatiah, al-InshirahS 94, al-Tawhid, al-Falaq, and al-Nas should be recited once each. After taslim, the following should be repeated thirty times:

There is no god save Allah.

il¡ha ill¡ all¡hu

Similarly, this imploration of blessings should be repeated thirty times:

O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Mu¦ammad and the Household of Mu¦ammad.

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin

The reward of this prayer is that whoever offers it, will have all his sins forgiven and will return as sin-free as the day of his birth.

Sixth: It is recommended to offer a thirty unit prayer in each unit S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah is recited once, S£rah al-K¡fir£n (No. 109) recited once, and S£rah al-Taw¦¢d repeated three times.

Seventh: Imam Ab£-Ja`far II (`a) is reported to have recommended saying this the following prayer at the first night of Rajab after the `Ish¡' Prayer:  Mp3

all¡humma inn¢ as'aluk bi'annaka malikun

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your being the King,

wa annaka m¡ tash¡'u min amrin yak£nu

and whatever matter You want to happen shall happen.

all¡humma inn¢ atawajjahu ilayka binabiyyika mu¦ammadin

O Allah, I turn my face towards You asking You in the name of Your Prophet, Mu¦ammad,

nabiyyi alrra¦mati ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lih¢

the Prophet of mercy—may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household.

O Mu¦ammad!

ras£la all¡hi

O Messenger of Allah!

I seek Your intercession for me with Allah, your and my Lord,

wal-a'immati min ahli baytih¢

and the Imams from his household,

¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa `alayhim

peace be upon him and them,

to respond to my request.

You may then mention your requests.

Ibn Ashyam says: It is advisable to say this  prayer after offering the eight-unit ¥al¡t al-Layl (Night Prayer) and before offering the three-unit ¥al¡t al-witr. Immediately after offering this prayer, it is recommended to say this  prayer while sitting: Mp3

The First Day of Rajab

The first day of Rajab is a holy day on which there are several rites recommended

First: It is advisable to observe fasting on this day. According to narrations, Prophet Noah (`a) embarked on the Ark on such a day; he therefore ordered his companions to observe fasting. Hence, whoever observes fasting on this day, Hellfire will move away from him

Second: Ghusl

Third: It is also recommended to visit the tomb of Imam al-°usayn (`a) on this day. Shaykh al-±£s¢ has narrated on the authority of Bash¢r al-Dahh¡n that Imam Ja`far al-¯¡diq (`a) said, “Whoever visits (Imam) al-°usayn ibn `Al¢ (`a) on the first day of Rajab, Almighty Allah will forgive him all his sins.”

Fourth: It is recommended to say the long  first rajab dua,  for this day and mentioned in the book of Iqb¡l al-A`m¡l.given below

Fifth: It is recommended to begin with offering the famous Salat Salman (The Prayer of Salm¡n al-F¡ris¢), which consists of thirty units. On the first of Rajab, it is advisable to offer ten units of this prayer separating each couple with a Tasl¢m. In each unit, one should recite S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah one time, S£rah al-Taw¦¢d three times, and S£rah al-K¡fir£n three times. After Tasl¢m, it is recommended to raise the hands up and say the following :PDF   Jpg

il¡ha ill¡ all¡hu

There is no god save Allah,

wa¦dah£ l¡ shar¢ka lah£

the One and Only Who has no partner.

lah£ almulku wa lah£ al¦amdu

To him is the kingdom and to Him is all praise.

yu¦y¢ wa yum¢tu

He gives life and causes to die

wa huwa ¦ayyun l¡ yam£tu

while He is Ever-living and never dies.

biyadih¢ alkhayru

In His hand is the good

wa huwa `al¡ kulli shay'in qad¢run

and He has power over all things.

The following litany should be said thereafter:

O Allah, verily, none can ever divest him whom You decide to give,

all¡humma l¡ m¡ni`a lim¡ a`§ayta

none can ever give him whom You decide to deprive,

wa l¡ mu`§iya lim¡ mana`ta

and nothing can ever stop that which You decide.

wa l¡ yanfa`u dhaljaddi minka aljadda

Then, one should pass the hands over the face.

Other ten units of this prayer should be offered on the fifteenth (i.e. middle) of Rajab in the very aforementioned form and litanies. However, the following litany should be added after the first one:

The Lord Who is One, One and Only,

il¡han w¡¦idan a¦adan

Singular, and Besought by the all,

fardan ¥amadan

has betaken neither a wife nor a son.

lam yattakhidh ¥¡¦ibatan wa l¡ waladan

The last ten units of this prayer should be offered on the last day of Rajab in this very form; rather, the following litany is added after the first one:

May Allah send blessings to Mu¦ammad and upon his Household, the Immaculate.

wa ¥all¡ all¡hu `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡lih¢ al§§¡hir¢na

There is neither might nor power save with Allah, the Most High, the All-great.

wa l¡ ¦awla wa l¡ quwwata ill¡ bill¡hi al`aliyyi al`a¨¢mi

Then, one should pass the hands over the face and submit his requests.

This greatly advantageous prayer must not be neglected. However, Salm¡n has another prayer, to be offered on this day, which consists of ten units in each of which S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah should be recited once and S£rah al-Taw¦¢d three times. This prayer brings about a great reward; it achieves forgiveness of all sins, protects against the grave torture and the chastisement on the Resurrection Day, and saves from leprosy, elephantiasis, and pleurisy.

Sayyid Ibn ±¡w£s has also mentioned, in his book of Iqb¡l al-A`m¡l, another prayer that is offered on the first of Rajab.

According to some narrations, Imam Mu¦ammad al-B¡qir (`a) was born on the first of Rajab, AH 57. Alternate date is the third of ¯afar.
