Yā man yarḥamu man lā yarḥamuhū al-‘ibād.
O He who shows mercy to him upon whom the servants show no mercy,
wa yā man yaqbalu man lā taqbaluhū al-bilād.
and O He who accepts him whom the lands do not accept,
wa yā man lā yaḥtaqiru ahl al-ḥājah ilayh.
and O He who does not scorn those in need of Him,
wa yā man lā yukhayyibu al-muliḥḥīn ‘alayh,
and O He who does not disappoint those who insistently plead to Him,
wa yā man lā yajbahū bi-ar-radd ahl ad-dāllah ‘alayh,
and O He who does not meet those who presume upon Him with rejection,
wa yā man yajtabī ṣaghīra mā yutḥafu bihī,
and O He who chooses the small gift which is offered to Him,
wa yashkuru yasīra mā yu‘malu lah.
and thanks for the little that is done for Him.
Wa yā man yashkuru ‘alā al-qalīl, wa yujāzī bi-al-jalīl,
And O He who thanks for the little, and recompenses with the great,
wa yā man yadnū ilā man danā minh,
and O He who comes near to him who comes near to Him,
wa yā man yad‘ū ilā nafsihī man adbara ‘anh,
and O He who invites to Himself him who turns away from Him,
and O He who does not change the favor, and does not hasten with vengeance,
wa yā man yuthmiru al-ḥasanah ḥattā yunmīhā,
and O He who makes the good deed fruitful until He increases it,
wa yatajāwazu ‘ani as-sayyi’ah ḥattā yu‘affīhā.
and overlooks the evil deed until He wipes it out.
Inṣarafati al-āmālu dūna madā karamika bi-al-ḥājāt
Hopes have turned away short of the extent of Your generosity with [the fulfillment of] needs,
wa imtala’at bi-fayḍi jūdik aw‘iyatu aṭ-ṭalibāt,
and the vessels of requests have been filled by the overflowing of Your bounty,
wa tafassakhat dūna bulūghi na‘tika aṣ-ṣifāt,
and descriptions have dissolved short of attaining the expression of Your quality.
Fa-laka al-‘uluwwu al-a‘lā fawqa kulli ‘āl,
So Yours is the supreme exaltation above every high one,
wa al-jalālu al-amjad fawqa kulli jalāl,
and the most glorious majesty above every majesty.
Kullu jalīlin ‘indak ṣaghīr,
Every great thing is small beside You,
wa kullu sharīfin fī janbi sharafika ḥaqīr.
and every noble thing is contemptible beside Your nobility.
Khāba al-wāfidūna ‘alā ghayrik,
Disappointed are those who come to anyone other than You,
wa khasira al-muta‘arriḍūna illā lak,
and lost are those who expose themselves to anyone but You,
wa ḍā‘a al-mulimmūna illā bik,
and wasted are those who resort to anyone but You,
wa ajdaba al-muntaji‘ūna illā mani intaja‘a faḍlak.
and barren are those who seek pasture, except him who seeks Your favor as pasture.
Bābuka maftūḥun li-ar-rāghibīn,
Your door is open to those who desire,
wa jūduka mubāḥun li-as-sā’ilīn,
and Your bounty is allowed to those who ask,
wa ighāthatuka qarībatun min al-mustaghīthīn,
and Your assistance is near to those who seek help.
Lā yakhību minka al-āmilūn,
The hopers are not disappointed by You,
wa lā yay’asu min ‘aṭā’ika al-muta‘arriḍūn,
and those who expose themselves to Your giving do not despair,
wa lā yashqā bi-naqmatika al-mustaghfirūn.
and those who seek forgiveness are not wretched through Your vengeance.
Rizquka mabsūṭun li-man ‘aṣāk,
Your provision is spread out for him who disobeys You,
wa ḥilmuka mu‘tariḍun li-man nāwāk,
and Your forbearance confronts him who opposes You.
‘Ādatuka al-iḥsānu ilā al-musī’īn,
Your custom is beneficence toward the evil-doers,
wa sunnatuka al-ibqā’u ‘alā al-mu‘tadīn
and Your wont is to keep the transgressors alive,
ḥattā laqad gharrathum anātuka ‘ani ar-rujū‘,
until Your clemency almost deluded them from returning,
wa ṣaddahum imhāluka ‘ani an-nuzū‘.
and Your delay turned them away from repentance.
Wa innamā ta’annayta bihim li-yafī’ū ilā amrik,
But You only delayed them so they might return to Your command,
wa amhaltahum thiqatan bi-dawām mulkik,
and You gave them respite, trusting in the permanence of Your kingdom.
Fa-man kāna min ahli as-sa‘ādah khatamta lahū bihā,
So whoever was among the people of felicity, You sealed his end with it,
wa man kāna min ahli ash-shaqāwah khadhaltahū lahā,
and whoever was among the people of wretchedness, You abandoned him to it.
Kulluhum ṣā’irūna ilā ḥukmik
All of them are proceeding to Your judgment,
wa umūruhum ā’ilatun ilā amrik,
and their affairs are tending toward Your command.
Lam yahin ‘alā ṭūl muddatīhim sulṭānuk
Your sovereignty was not weakened by their long duration,
wa lam yadḥaḍ li-tarki mu‘ājalatihim burhānuk.
and Your proof was not refuted by Your leaving off their hastening [to punishment].
Ḥujjatuka qā’imatun lā tudḥaḍ,
Your proof is standing, never refuted,
wa sulṭānuka thābitun lā yazūl,
and Your sovereignty is firm, never ceasing.
Fa-al-waylu ad-dā’imu li-man janaḥa ‘ank,
So lasting woe belongs to him who swerved from You,
wa al-khaybatu al-khādhilatu li-man khāba mink,
and disappointing loss to him who was disappointed by You,
wa ash-shaqā’u al-ashqā li-mani ightarra bik.
and the most wretched wretchedness to him who was deluded by You.
Mā akthara taṣarrufahū fī ‘adhābik,
How much he will be turned about in Your punishment,
wa mā aṭwala taraddudahū fī ‘iqābik,
and how long he will be moved back and forth in Your penalty,
wa mā ab‘ada ghāyatahū min al-faraj,
and how distant his limit is from relief,
wa mā aqnaṭahū min suhūlati al-makhraj
and how hopeless he is of an easy way out!
‘Adlan min qaḍā’ika lā tajūru fīh,
As justice from Your decree, in which You do not act wrongfully,
wa inṣāfan min ḥukmik lā taḥīfu ‘alayh,
and as equity from Your judgment, against which You do not incline.
Fa-qad ẓāharta al-ḥujaj,
For You have made the proofs manifest,
wa ablayta al-a‘dhār,
and set forth the excuses,
wa qad taqaddamta bi-al-wa‘īd
and You have preceded with the threat
wa talaṭṭafta fī at-targhīb,
and dealt kindly in enticing,
wa ḍarabta al-amthāl,
and cited the examples,
wa aṭalta al-imhal,
and prolonged the respite,
wa akhkharta wa anta mustaṭī‘un li-al-mu‘ājalah,
and delayed, though You are able to hasten,
wa ta’annayta wa anta malī’un bi-al-mubādarah,
and acted with clemency, though You are able to commence.
Lam takun anātuka ‘ajzā,
Your clemency was not helplessness,
wa lā imhāluka wahnā,
and Your delay was not weakness,
wa lā imsākuka ghaflah,
and Your withholding was not heedlessness,
wa lā intiẓāruka mudārāh,
and Your waiting was not flattering,
bal li-takūna ḥujjatuka ablagh,
but [it was] so that Your proof might be more eloquent,
wa karamuka akmal,
and Your generosity more perfect,
wa iḥsānuka awfā
and Your beneficence more abundant,
wa ni‘matuka atamm.
and Your blessing more complete.
Kullu dhālika kāna wa lam tazal,
All of that was and You have not ceased,
wa huwa kā’inun wa lā tazāl,
and it is being and You will not cease.
Ḥujjatuka ajallu min an tūṣafa bi-kullihā,
Your proof is too magnificent to be described in its totality,
wa majdūka arfa‘u min an yuḥadda bi-kunhih,
and Your glory is too sublime to be limited in its essence,
wa ni‘matuka aktharu min an tuḥṣā bi-asrihā,
and Your blessing is too abundant to be counted in its entirety,
wa iḥsānuka aktharu min an tushkara ‘alā aqallih.
and Your beneficence is too much to be thanked for its least part.
Wa qad qaṣṣara biya as-sukūtu ‘an taḥmīdik,
And silence has fallen short of praising You,
wa fahhahanī al-imsāku ‘an tamjīdik,
and withholding has made me speechless from glorifying You,
wa quṣārāya al-iqrāru bi-al-ḥusūr
and my utmost is the acknowledgment of the inability
lā raghbatan – yā Ilāhī – bal ‘ajzan,
— not from reluctance, O my God, but from incapacity.
Fa-hā anā dhā a’ummuka bi-al-wifādah,
So here I am, seeking You by coming to You,
wa as’aluka ḥusna ar-rifādah,
and asking You for the excellence of reception.
Fa-ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammad wa ālih
So bless Muhammad and his Household,
wa isma‘ najwāy,
and hear my secret supplication,
wa istajib du‘ā’ī
and answer my prayer,
wa lā takhtim yawmiya bi-khaybatī,
and do not seal my day with my disappointment,
wa lā tajbahnī bi-ar-raddī fī mas’alatī,
and do not meet me with rejection in my request,
wa akrim min ‘indik munṣarafī
and make my departure from You honorable,
wa ilayka munqalabī,
and my return to You.
Innaka ghayru ḍā’iqin bi-mā turīd
Surely You are not constrained by what You will,
wa lā ‘ājizin ‘ammā tus’al,
and not incapable of what You are asked,
wa anta ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr,
and You are powerful over everything,
wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-Allāh al-‘Alīyy al-‘Aẓīm.
and there is no might and no power except with God, the Most High, the Most Great.
