wa tab‘athuhum bi-hā ‘alā i‘tiqādi ḥusni ar-rajā’i lak,
and by which You inspire them with the belief in a good hope in You,

wa aṭ-ṭama‘i fīmā ‘indak,
and a desire for what is with You,

wa tarki an-nuhamati fīmā taḥwīhi aydī al-‘ibād
and the abandonment of greed for what the hands of servants hold,

li-taruddahum ilā ar-raghbati ilayka wa ar-rahbati mink,
so that You return them to desire for You and awe of You.

wa tuzahhiduhum fī sa‘ati al-‘ājil
And make them ascetic toward the abundance of this fleeting world,

wa tuḥabbibu ilayhimu al-‘amala li-al-ājil,
and make them love to work for the Hereafter,

wa al-isti‘dāda li-mā ba‘da al-mawt,
and to prepare for what is after death,

wa tuhawwina ‘alayhim kulla karbin yaḥullu bihim
and make easy for them every anguish that befalls them

yawma khurūji al-anfusi min abdānihā
on the day souls depart from their bodies,

wa tu‘āfiyahum mimmā taqa‘u bihi al-fitnatu min maḥdhūrātihā,
and protect them from the forbidden things that cause sedition,

wa kabbati an-nāri wa ṭūli al-khulūdi fīhā,
and the fall into the fire and a long stay in it,

wa tuṣayyirahum ilā amnin min maqīli al-muttaqīn.
and make them reach a safe haven, the resting place of the righteous.
