Sahifa Sajjadia His Supplication in Seeking Needs from God
Imam Zainul Abideen(as) son of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as)'s supplication - 13 His Supplication in Seeking Needs from God

Allāhumma yā muntahā maṭlabi al-ḥājāt, wa-yā man ʿindahu naylu aṭ-ṭalibāt
O Allah, O ultimate destination of needs, O One with all requests.

Wa-yā man lā yabīʿu niʿamahu bil-athmān, wa-yā man lā yukaddiru ʿaṭāyāhu bil-imtinān
O He who does not sell His blessings for a price, nor spoil His gifts with obligation.

Wa-yā man yustaghnā bihi wa-lā yustaghnā ʿanhu, wa-yā man yurghabu ilayhi wa-lā yurghabu ʿanhu
O He through whom sufficiency is found, and none is independent of Him; O He to whom all desire turns, and from whom none turns away.

Wa-yā man lā tufnī khazāʾinahu al-masāʾil, wa-yā man lā tubaddilu ḥikmatahu al-wasāʾil
O He whose treasures are never depleted by requests, and whose wisdom is never altered by means.

Wa-yā man lā tanqaṭiʿu ʿanhu ḥawāʾiju al-muḥtājīn, wa-yā man lā yuʿannīhi duʿāʾu ad-dāʿīn
O He from whom the needs of the needy never cease, and whom the calls of the callers never burden.

Tamaddaḥta bil-ghinā ʿan khalqika, wa-anta ahlu al-ghinā ʿanhum
You have praised Yourself with independence from creation, and You are worthy of being above need of them.

Wa-nasabtahum ilā al-faqr, wa-hum ahlu al-faqri ilayk
And You attributed poverty to them, for they are truly in need of You.

Fa-man ḥāwala sadd khallatihi min ʿindika, wa-rāma ṣarfa al-faqri ʿan nafsihi bika
So whoever seeks to fulfill his need through You, and desires to repel poverty from himself by You—

Faqad ṭalaba ḥājatahu fī maẓānihā, wa-atā ṭalibatahu min wajhihā
He has indeed sought his need in its true place, and approached his request from the right path.

Wa-man tawajjaha bi-ḥājatihi ilā aḥadin min khalqika, aw jaʿalahu sabab nūjḥihā dūnak
But whoever turns with his need to any of Your creation, or makes him the cause of success without You—

Faqad taʿarraḍa lil-ḥirmān, wa-staḥaqqa min ʿindika fawta al-iḥsān
He has exposed himself to deprivation, and deserves from You the loss of beneficence.

Allāhumma walī ilayka ḥājatan qad qaṣṣara ʿanhā juhdī
O Allah, I have a need with You, beyond my effort.

Wa-taqaṭṭaʿat dūnahā ḥīlī, wa-sawwlat lī nafsī rafʿahā
My means have failed me, yet my soul suggested I raise it—

Ilā man yarfaʿu ḥawāʾijahu ilayka, wa-lā yastaghnī fī ṭalibātihi ʿanka
To one who himself raises his needs to You, and cannot be independent of You.

Wa-hiya zallatun min zalali al-khāṭiʾīn, wa-ʿathratun min ʿatharāti al-mudhnibīn
And this is a slip from the slips of sinners, and a stumble from the stumbles of the guilty.

Thumma intabahtu bi-tadhkīrika lī min ghaflatī, wa-nahaḍtu bi-tawfīqika min zallatī
Then I awoke by Your reminder from my heedlessness, and I rose by Your guidance from my slip.

Wa-rajaʿtu wa-nakaṣtu bi-tasdīdika ʿan ʿathratī, wa-qultu subḥāna rabbī
And I turned back, corrected by Your support from my stumble, and I said: Glory be to my Lord—

Kayfa yasʾalu muḥtājun muḥtājan, wa-annā yarghabu muʿdimun ilā muʿdimin
How can one in need ask another in need? How can a destitute turn to a destitute?

Faqaṣadtu-ka yā ilāhī bir-raghbah, wa-awfadtu ʿalayka rajāʾī bith-thiqati bika
So I turned to You, my God, with longing, and sent my hope to You with trust.

Wa-ʿalimtu anna kathīran mā asʾaluka yasīrun fī wujdika
And I knew that much of what I ask You is easy within Your possession.

Wa-anna khaṭīran mā astawhibuka ḥaqīrun fī wusʿika
And that great matters I request from You are small within Your capacity.

Wa-anna karamaka lā yaḍīqu ʿan suʾāli aḥadin
And that Your generosity is never too narrow for anyone’s asking.

Wa-anna yadaka bil-ʿaṭāyā aʿlā min kulli yadin
And that Your hand in giving is higher than every hand.

------
Allāhumma fa-ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa-ālihi wa-ḥmilnī b-karamika ʿala at-tafaḍḍul
O Allah, so bless Muhammad and his Household, and carry me through Your generosity to gracious bounty,

wa-lā taḥmilnī bi-ʿadlik ʿala al-istihqāq
and do not carry me by Your justice to what I deserve.

famā anā bi-awwali rāghibin raghība ilayka fa-aʿṭaytahu wa-huwa yastaḥiqqu al-manʿ
For I am not the first of those who desired from You, whom You granted though he deserved withholding,

wa-lā bi-awwali sāʾilin saʾalaka fa-afḍalta ʿalayhi wa-huwa yastawjibu al-ḥirmān
nor the first of those who asked You, to whom You bestowed while he merited deprivation.

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa-ālihi
O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Household,

wa-kun li-duʿāʾī mujīban wa-li-nidāʾī qarīban
be responsive to my supplication, and near to my call,

wa-li-taḍarruʿī rāḥiman wa-li-ṣawtī sāmiʿan
merciful to my pleading, and listening to my voice.

wa-lā taqṭaʿ rajāʾī ʿanka wa-lā tabutta sababī minka
Do not cut off my hope from You, nor sever my tie to You,

wa-lā tuwajjihnī fī ḥājātī hādhihi wa-ghayrihā ilā siwāk
nor turn me in this need of mine or others to anyone but You.

wa-tawallani bi-nujḥi ṭalibatī wa-qaḍāʾi ḥājātī
Take charge of fulfilling my request and settling my need,

wa-nayli suʾlī qabla zawālī ʿan mawqifī hādhā
and granting my desire before I depart from this place,

bi-taysīrika lī al-ʿasīr wa-ḥusni taqdīrika lī fī jamīʿ al-umūr
through Your easing the difficult for me and Your excellent ordaining in all my affairs.

wa-ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa-ālihi ṣalātan dāʾimatan nāmiyatan lā inqiṭāʿa li-abadihā
And bless Muhammad and his Household with a lasting, ever-increasing blessing, whose eternity shall never end,

wa-lā muntahā li-amadihā wa-jʿal dhālika ʿawnan lī wa-sababan li-najāḥi ṭalibatī innaka wāsiʿun karīm
and whose span has no limit. Make that a support for me and a cause for the success of my request—surely You are All-Encompassing, Generous.

wa-min ḥājatī yā rabbī kadhā wa-kadhā
And of my needs, O my Lord, are such and such...

(Here you state your needs, then prostrate and say):
faḍluka ānasanī wa-iḥsānuka dallanī
Your bounty has comforted me, and Your kindness has guided me.
fa-asʾaluka bika wa-bimuḥammadin wa-ālihi ṣalawātuka ʿalayhim an lā taruddani khāʾiban
So I ask You—by You, and by Muhammad and his Household (Your blessings be upon them)—not to send me away disappointed.

wa qul-tu: sub-h'aana rab-bee kay-fa yas-alu muh'-taajum-muh'-taajaa?
28.I said: Glory be to my Lord! How can the needy ask from the needy?

wa an-naa yarghabu mua'-dimun ilaa mua'-dimin?
29.How can the destitute beseech the destitute?

30.So I went straight to You, my God, in beseeching,

wa an-na karamaka laa yaz''eequ a'n soo-aali ah'ad
34.Your generosity is not constrained by anyone's asking,

wa an-na yadaka bil-a't'aayaaa aa'-laa min kul-li yad

al-laahum-ma fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih wa ah'-mil-nee bikaramika a'laat-tafaz''-z''ul
36.O God, so bless Muhammad and His Household, take me through their generosity to Your gratuitous bounty

wa laa tah'-mil-nee bia'd-lika a'laalis-tih'-qaaq
37.And take me not through Your justice to what I deserve!

famaaa ana biw-wali raaghibir-raghiba ilay-ka faaa'-t'ay-tahoo wa huwa yas-tah'iq-qul-man-a'-
38.I am not the first beseecher to beseech You and You bestowed upon him while he deserved withholding,

wa laa biw-wali saaa-ilin saalaka faaf-z''al-ta a'lay-hee wa huwa yas-taw-jibul-h'ir-maan
39.nor am I the first to ask from You and Your vast bounteous toward him while he merited deprivation.

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih
40.O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Household,

wa kul-lidua'aa-ee mujeebaa wa min-nidaaa-ee qareebaa
41.respond to my supplication, come near my call,

wa litaz''ar-rue'e raah'imaa wa lis'aw-tee saamia'a
42.have mercy on my pleading, listen to my voice,

wa laa taq-t'aa' rajaaa-ee a'nk wa laa tabut-ta sababee mink
43.cut not short my hope for You, sever not my thread to You,

wa laa tuwaj-jih-nee fee h'aajatee hd'ihee waghay-rihaaa ilaa siwaak
44.turn not my face in this my need, and other needs, away from You,
