Salih Bin Aqabah and Sayf ibn Umayrah have reported `Alqamah ibn Muhammad al-Hadrami as saying that he, once, asked Imam al-Baqir, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, to teach him a prayer with which he would pray Almighty Allah on that day (of Ashura) when he would visit Imam al-Husayn’s tomb and to teach him another prayer with which he would pray Almighty Allah on that day when he would be unable to visit the tomb and then he would point to the tomb and send greetings to Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) from his own house.
The Imam said, “Listen, Alqamah! After you point to Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) with greetings and offer the two-unit prayer, you may say the Takbir statement (i.e. allahu-akbar) and then say... (the forthcoming form of Ziyarah). If you do so, you will have said the prayer that is said by the angels who visit Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him). You will be also raised one hundred million ranks to join the rank of those who were martyred with him (i.e. Imam al-Husayn) and you will be included with their group. You will, moreover, be awarded the reward of the visiting of all Prophets and Messengers as well as the reward of all the visitors of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) since the day of his martyrdom.”
Ziyarah Ashura - Imam Hussain (peace be upon him)

O Allah, (please) make me live my lifetime in the same way as Muhammad and Muhammad’s Household lived

Allah’s peace be upon him,
fi kulli mawtinin wa mawqifin
on every occasion and in every situation,
In some books of supplication, this supplication is referred to as "Dua Alqamah" named after the companion of Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), Alqamah. However, Shaykh Abbas Qummi quotes very clear traditions in Mafatih ul-Jinan that Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) recited this dua in the presence of the companion Safwan, not Alqamah. Therefore, the correct name of this supplication is "Dua to be recited after Ziyarah 'Ashura" or "Dua Safwan".
Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Tayalisi has reported the following from Sayf ibn `Umayrah: Accompanied by Safwan ibn Mahran and a group of our companions, I went to Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) to al-Ghari (currently al-Najaf). After that, we traveled from al-Hirah towards al-Madinah. When we accomplished visiting the tomb of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (`a), Safwan turned his face towards the tomb of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) and said to us, “Would you like to visit al-Husayn (peace be upon him) from this very place, which was the side of Imam `Ali’s head?” So, Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) and I pointed to him in affirmative. Safwan then uttered the ziyarah form, which was reported by `Alqamah ibn Muhammad al-Hadrami from Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) to be said on the `Ashura' Day. He then offered a two-unit prayer at the side of Imam `Ali’s head. Upon accomplishment of the prayer, Safwan bid farewell to Imam `Ali (peace be upon him), turned his face towards the tomb of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him), pointed to him with his hand, and bid farewell to him, saying the following supplication:
يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ
ya allahu ya allahu ya allahu
O Allah! O Allah! O Allah!
ya mujiba da`wati almudtarrina
O He Who responds to the prayer of the distressed!
ya kashifa kurabi almakrubina
O He Who relieves the agonies of the agonized!
ya ghiyatha almustaghithina
O Aide of the callers for aid!
ya sarikha almustasrikhina
O Helper of those who cry for help!
as'aluka an tusalliya `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
I beseech You (in the name of all that) to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
wa an takshifa `anni ghammi
to relieve me from my distress,
wa hammi wa karbi
grief, and agony,
wa takfiyani almuhimma min umuri
to make up for me all my distressing affairs,
wa taqdiya `anni dayni
to help me settle my debts,
wa tujirani min alfaqri
to safeguard me against poverty,
wa tujirani min alfaqati
to safeguard me against scarcity,
wa mustashfi`an bikuma ila allahi ta`ala fi hajati hadhihi
and seeking your intercession for me with Allah All-exalted to grant me this request of mine;
fala khayyabaniya allahu mimma rajawtu wa ma ammaltu fi ziyaratikuma
May Allah never make me fail to attain what I have hoped and desired in visiting you both.
innahu qaribun mujibun
Verily, He is All-nigh, All-responding.
This form of ziyarah on the `Ashura' Day is not as famous as the earlier one; rather, it is similar to it in reward and merits although it does not comprise the one-hundred time statements of invoking curse on the enemies and invoking blessings on the Imam and his companions. It is considered a great success for one whom is diverted from that form of ziyarah by a more important matter. The method of this form of ziyarah, as quoted from the book of al-Mazar al-Qadim, without mentioning the explanatory introduction, is as follows:
If you would like to visit Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) from remote places or from the vicinity of his holy tomb, you may bathe yourself and come out to a desert or go up the roof on your house. You may then offer a two-unit prayer, reciting (after Surah al-Fatihah) Surah al-Tawhid in both units. When you accomplish the prayer, you may point to Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) to greet him. The greetings, pointing, and intention must be made while turning the face towards the side of Imam al-Husayn’s tomb. Then, you may say the following words with reverence and submission:
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
alssalamu `alayka yabna rasuli allahi
Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.
alssalamu `alayka minni ma baqitu wa baqiya allaylu walnnaharu
Peace be upon you from me as long as I am existent and as long as there are day and night.
falaqad `azumat bika alrraziyyatu
Unbearable is the commiseration for you
wa jallat fi almu'minina walmuslimina
and gross is it for the believers, Muslims,
bari'tu ila allahi `azza wa jalla wa ilaykum
I declare my repudiation in the presence of Allah the Almighty and All-majestic, and in the presence of you,
ya sadati wa mawaliyya wa a'immati
O my masters, chiefs, and leaders,
minhum wa min ashya`ihim wa atba`ihim
from them, their adherents, and their followers.
an yukrimani biwilayatikum wa mahabbatikum wali'timami bikum
to endue me with the honor of being loyal to you, bearing love for you, choosing you as my leaders,
wa bilbara'ati min a`da'ikum
and declaring repudiation from your enemies.
allahumma wal`an awwala zalimin zalama ala bayti muhammadin
O Allah, pour curses upon the foremost transgressor who wronged the members of Muhammad’s household,
warzuqni shafa`ata alhusayni `alayhi alssalamu yawma alwurudi
endue me with the intercession of al-Husayn, peace be upon him, on the Day of Coming (to You),
