3rd Shaban

Abu’l-Qasim ibn `Al’ al-Hamadaniy, the representative of Imam al-Hasan al-`Askariy (a.s), received a document telling that our master, Grandson of the Holy Prophet (saws),Imam al-Husayn ibn `Ali (a.s), was born on the third of Sha`ban; therefore, you should observe fasting on this day and recite the following supplication:

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS—ALUKA BIH’AQQIL MAWLOODI FEE HAAD’AL YAWMIL MAW—O’ODIL BISHAHAADATIHEE QABLAS—TIHAALIHEE WA WILAADATIHEE BARKAT—HUSSAMAA—U WA MAN FEEHAA WAL ARZ”U WA MAN A’LAYHAA WA LAMMAA YUT’AA LAA BATAYHAA QATEELIL A’BRATI WA SAYYIDIL USRATIL MAMDOODI BIN—NUS’RATI YAWMAL KARRATIL MU—A’WWAZ”I MIN QATALIHEE ANNAL A—IMMATI MIN NASLIHEE WASH SHIFAA—A FEE TURBATIHEE WAL FAWZA MA—A’HU FEE AWBATIHEE WAL AWS’IYAA—A MIN I’TRATIHEE BAA’—DAQAAA—IMIHIM WA GHAYBATIHEE H’ATTAA YUDRIKUL AWTAATA WA YATHAARUTH THAARA WA YURZ”UL JABBAARA WA YAKOONOO KHAYRA ANS’AAR

S’ALLALLAAHU A’LAYHIM MA—A’KH—TILAAFIL LAYLI WAN NAHAAR ALLAAHUMMA FA—BIH’AQQIHIM ILAYKA ATAWASSALU WA AS—ALUSUWAALA MUQTARIFIN MUA’—TARIFIN MUSEE—IN ILAA NAFSIHI MIMMAA FARRAT’A FEE YAWMIHI WA AMSIHI YAS—ALUKAL I’S’MATA ILAA MAH’ALLI RAMSIHI

ALLAAHUMMA FAS’ALLI A’LAA MUH’AMMADIN WA I’TRATIHI WAH—SHURNAA FEE ZUMRATIHI WA BAWWI—NAA MA—A’HU DAARAL KARAAMATI WA MAH’ALLAL IQAAMAH

ALLAAHUMMA WA KAMAA AKRAMTANAA BI—MAA’—RIFATIHI FA—AKRIMNAA BI—ZULFATHIHI WARZUQNAA MURAAFAQATAHU WA SAABIQATAHU WAJ—A’LNAA MIMMAN YUSALLIMU LI—AMRIHEE WA YUKTHIRUS’S’ALAATA A’LAYHI I’NDA D’IKRIHI WA A’LAA JAMEE—I’ AWS’IYAAA—IHI WA AHLI AS’FIYAA—IHIL MAMDOODEENA MINKA BI—A’DADIL ITHNAA A’SHARAN NUJOOMIZ ZUHARI WAL H’UJAJI A’LAA JAMEE—I’LBASHAR

ALLAAHUMMA WAHAB LANAA FEE HAAD’AL YAWMI KHAYRA MAWHIBATIN WAN—JIH’LANAA FEEHI KULLAA T’ALIBATIN KAMAA WAHABTAL H’USAYNA LI—MUH’AMMADIN JIDDIHI WA A’AD’A FUT’RUSU BI—MAHDIHI FA—NAH’NU A’AA—ID’OONA BI—QABRIHI MIN BAA’—DIHI NASH—HADU TURBATAHU WA NANTAZ’IRU AWBATAHU AMEEN RABBAL—A’ALIMEEN.

After that, you may recite the Du`a' al-Husayn, which is the last supplication uttered by Imam al-Husayn (a.s) when his enemies surrounded him in large numbers on the Day of `Ashura(the tenth of Muharram, AH 61):

اللّهُمَّ أَنْتَ مُتَعَالي الْمَكَانِ،	O Allah: You are verily the Elevated in position,
عَظِيمُ الْجَبَرُوتِ،	the Magnificent in omnipotence,
شَدِيدُ الْمِحَالِ،	the Mighty in prowess,
غَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْخَلائِقِ،	the Self-Sufficient from the creatures,
عَرِيضُ الْكِبْرِيَاءِ،	the Ample in pride,
قَادِرٌ عَلَى مَا تَشَاءُ،	the Powerful over all that which You want,
قَرِيبُ الرَّحْمَةِ،	the Close in mercy,
صَادِقُ الْوَعْدِ،	the Truthful in promise,
سَابِغُ النِّعْمَةِ،	the Opulent in favors,
حَسَنُ الْبَلاءِ،	the Sympathetic in ordeals,
قَرِيبٌ إذَا دُعِيتَ،	the Nigh when Your are prayed,
مُحِيطٌ بِمَا خَلَقْتَ،	the All-encompassing of all that which You have created,
قَابِلُ التَّوْبَةِ لِمَنْ تَابَ إلَيْكَ،	the Accepter of the repentance of him who repents to You,
قَادِرٌ عَلَى مَا أَرَدْتَ،	the Powerful to do whatever You want,
وَمُدْرِكٌ مَا طَلَبْتَ،	the Taker in all that which You decide,
وَشَكُورٌ إذَا شُكِرْتَ،	the Thankful for those who thank You,
وَذَكُورٌ إذَا ذُكِرْتَ،	the Rememberer of those who mention You.
أَدْعُوكَ مُحْتَاجاً،	I pray You for I need You;
وَأَرْغَبُ إلَيْكَ فَقِيراً،	and I desire for You for I am in want of You;
وَأَفْزَعُ إلَيْكَ خَائِفاً،	and I resort to You for I am terrified;
وَأَبْكِي إلَيْكَ مَكْرُوباً،	and I weep before You for I am distressed;
وَأَسْتَعِينُ بِكَ ضَعِيفاً،	and I seek Your aid for I am weak;
وَأَتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْكَ كَافِياً،	and I depend upon You for I trust in none save You;
احْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ قَوْمِنَا بِالْحَقِّ،	(please do) decide between our people and us with the truth,
فَإنَّهُمْ غَرُّونَا وَخَدَعُونَا	for they have deceived us, cheated us,
وَخَذَلُونَا وَغَدَرُوَا بِنَا وَقَتَلُونَا،	disappointed us, betrayed us, and killed us.
وَنَحْنُ عِتْرَةُ نَبِيِّكَ	We are verily the progeny of Your Prophet,
وَوَلَدُ حَبِيبِكَ	and the sons of Your beloved one,
مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِاللّهِ	namely Mu¦ammad ibn `Abdull¡h,
الَّذِي اصْطَفَيْتَهُ بِالرِّسَالَةِ	whom You have chosen for the Divine Mission
وَائْتَمَنْتَهُ عَلَى وَحْيِكَ،	and for keeping Your Revelation.
فَاجْعَلْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا فَرَجاً وَمَخْرَجاً	So, (please so) prepare a way out and a relief for us,
بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.	out of Your mercy; O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

Ibn `Ayy¡sh has reported al-Husayn ibn `Ali ibn Sufy¡n al-Bez£fiy as saying that he heard Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (a.s) saying this supplication on the third of Sha`ban, the birthday of Imam al-Hsayn (a.s).
