bis-mil-l¡hir-ra¦-manir-ra¦¢m

In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

all¡humma y¡ mal-l¡ ya¥ifuhu n¡'-tul-w¡¥if¢n

O Allah, O He whom the depiction of the describers fails to describe!

wa y¡ mal-l¡ yuj¡wizuhu raj¡-ur-r¡j¢n

O He beyond whom passes not the hope of the hopers!

wa y¡ mal-l¡ ya¤¢u' laday-hi aj-rul-mu¦-sin¢n

O He with whom is not lost the wage of the good-doers!

wa y¡ man huwa muntah¡ khaw-fil-a'abid¢n

O He who is the ultimate object of the fear of the worshipers!

wa y¡ man huwa gh¡yatu khash-yatil-mut-taq¢n

O He who is the utmost limit of the dread of the god-fearing!

hadh¡ maq¡mu man tad¡walat-hu ay-d¢dh-dhun£b

This is the station of him whom sins have passed from hand to hand.

wa q¡dat-hu azim-matul-kha§¡y¡

Offenses' reins have led him on,

was-ta¦-wadha `alayhish-shay§¡n

And Satan has gained mastery over him.

faqa¥-¥ara `amm¡ amar-ta bihi taf-r¢§¡

He fell short of what You are commanded through neglect

wa t¡'a§¡ m¡ nahayta `an-hu t¡'-z¢r¡

And he pursued what You are prohibited in delusion,

kal-j¡hili biqud-ratika `ailayh

like one ignorant of Your power over him,

aw k¡l-munkiri fa¤li i¦-s¡nika ilayh

or one who denies the bounty of Your beneficence toward him,

¦at-t¡ idh¡n-fata¦a lahu ba¥arul-hud¡

until, when the eye of guidance was opened for him

wa taqash-sh¡'t `anhu sa¦¡-ibul-a'm¡

And the clouds of blindness were dispelled,

a¦-¥¡ m¡ ¨alama bihi naf-sah

he reckoned that through which he had wronged himself

wa fak-kara f¢m¡ kh¡lafa f¢hi rab-bah

And reflected upon that in which he had opposed his Lord.

far¡ kab¢ra i'¥-y¡nihi kab¢r¡

He saw his vast disobedience as vast

wa jal¢la mukh¡-lafatihi jal¢l¡

And his great opposition as great.

fa-aq-bala na¦-waka muammil¡l-laka

So he turned to You, hoping in You

mus-ta¦-yiy¡m-mink

And ashamed before You,

wa waj-jaha ragh-batahu ilay-ka thiqatam bik

and he directed his beseeching toward You, having trust in You.

f¡mmaka bi§ab-i'hi yaq¢n¡

He repaired to You in his longing with certitude

wa qa¥adaka bi-khaw-fihi ikh-l¡¥an

And he went straight to You in fear with sincerity.

qad khal¡ §amau'hu min kul-li ma§-m£i'n f¢hi ghayruk

His longing was devoid of every object of longing but You,

wa af-raja raw-a'hu min kul-li ma¦-dh£rim-minhu si-w¡k

And his fright departed from every object of fear but You.

fa-mathala bayna yaday-ka muta¤ar-ria'¡

So, he stood before You pleading,

wa ghamma¤a ba¥arahu ilal-ar-¤i mutakhash-shia'¡

his eyes turned toward the ground in humbleness,

wa §a-§¡ ra-sahu li-i'z-zatika mutadhal-lil¡

his head bowed before Your might in lowliness;

wa ab¡th-thaka min sir-rihi m¡ anta ¡'-lamu bihi minhu khu¤£a'¡

he revealed to You in meekness those secrets of his which You knowest better than he;

wa `ad-dada min dhun£bihi m¡ anta a¦-¥¡ lah¡ khush£a'¡

he numbered for You in humility those sins of his which You countest better than he;

was-tagh¡tha bika min

he sought help from You

a'¨¢mi m¡ waq¡' bihi f¢ i'l-mik

before the dreadful into which he has fallen in Your knowledge,

wa qab¢¦i m¡ fa¤a¦ahu f¢ ¦uk-mik

and the ugly which has disgraced him in Your judgment: the sins

min dhun£bin ad-barat ladh-dh¡tuh¡ fadhahabat

whose pleasures have turned their backs and gone

wa aq¡mat tabi-a'atuh¡ fa-lazi-mat

and whose evil consequences have stayed and stuck fast.

l¡ yunkiru y¡ ilah¢ `ad-laka in `aaqab-tahu

He will not deny Your justice, My God, if You punishest him,

wa-l¡ yas-t¡'-¥imu `af-waka `an-hu an `afaw-ta `an-hu wa ra¦im-tah

nor will he consider Your pardon great if You pardonest him and hast mercy upon him,

li-an-nakar-rab-bul-kar¢mul-ladh¢ l¡ yat¡'a-¨amuhu ghuf-r¡nudh-dhambil-a'¨¢m

for You are the Generous Lord for whom the forgiveness of great sins is nothing great!

allahumma fah¡ na dh¡

O Allah, so here I am:

qad ji-tuka mu§i-ya'¡l-li-am-rika

I have come to You obeying Your command

f¢m¡ amar-ta bihi minad-du`¡’i

for You commanded supplication

mutanaj-ji-aw-wa'-daka f¢m¡ w¡'d-ta bihi minal-ij¡bati idh taq£l

And asking the fulfillment of Your promise, for You are promised to respond. You are said:

ud-o'on¢ as-tajib lakum

“Supplicate Me and I will respond to you.”

allahumma fa¥al-li `al¡ mu¦ammad

O Allah, so bless Muhammad and his Household

wa al-qan¢ bimagh-firatika kam¡ laq¢tuka bi-iq-r¡r¢

meet me with Your forgiveness just as I have met You with my confession,

war-f¡'-n¢ `am-ma¥¡rii'dh-dhun£bi kam¡ wa¤¡'-tu laka naf-s¢

lift me up from the fatal infirmities of sins just as I have let myself down before You,

was-tur-n¢ bisit-rika kam¡ t¡n-nay-tan¢ `anil-intiq¡mi min-n¢

And cover me with Your covering just as You are shown no haste to take vengeance on me!

allahumma wa thab-bit f¢ §¡'tika n¢y-yat¢

O Allah, make firm my intention to obey You,

wa a¦-kim f¢ i'b¡datika ba¥¢rat¢

strengthen my insight in worshiping You,

wa waf-fiq-n¢ il¡l-¡'-m¡li m¡ tagh-silu biha danasal-kha§¡y¡ `an-n¢

give me the success of works which will wash away the defilement of offenses,

wa tawaf-fan¢ `al¡ mil-latika wa mil-lati nab¢-yika mu¦ammadin `alayih-s-sal¡mu idh¡ tawaf-faytan¢

and take me when You takest me in the creed of Your prophet Muhammad (upon him be peace).

allahumma  in-n¢ at£bu ilayka f¢ maq¡m¢ hadh¡ min

O Allah, I repent to You in this my station from

kab¡-iri dhun|£b¢ wa ¥agh¡-irih¡

my sins, great and small,

my evil deeds, inward and outward,

wa saw¡-lifi zal-lat¢ wa ¦aw¡dithih¡

my lapses, past and recent,

tawbata mal-l¡ yu¦ad-dithu naf-sahu bim¡'-¥i-yah

with the repentance of one who does not tell himself that he might disobey or

wa-l¡ yu¤miru ay-yao'oda f¢ kha§¢-ah

secretly think that he might return to an offense.

wa qad qul-ta y¡ ilah¢ f¢ mu¦-kami kit¡bik

You are said, My God, in the firm text of Your Book, that

in-naka taq-balut-tawbata `an i'b¡dik

You acceptest repentance from Your servants,

wa ta`-f£ `anis-say-yi’¡t

pardonest evil deeds,

And lovest the repenters,

f¡q-bal tawbat¢ kam¡ w¡'d-ta

so accept my repentance as You are promised,

pardon my evil deeds as You are guaranteed,

And make obligatory toward me Your love as You are stipulated!

my stipulation that I will not return to what is disliked by You,

wa ¤am¡n¢ al-l¡ ar-jia' f¢ madhm£mik

my guarantee that I will not go back to what You blamest,

wa `ah-d¢ an ah-jura jami-ya' m¡'a¥¢k

And my covenant that I will stay away from acts of disobedience to You.

O Allah, You knowest better what I have done,

f¡gh-fir l¢ m¡ `alim-ta

so forgive me what You knowest

wa¥-rif-n¢ biqud-ratika il¡ m¡ a¦-bab-t

And turn me through Your power to what You lovest!

allahumma wa `alay-ya tabia'atun qad ¦afi¨-tuhun-na

O Allah, counted against me are claims that stay in my memory

watabia'atun qad nas¢-tuhun-na

and claims that I have forgotten,

while all of them remain in Your eye that does not sleep

and Your knowledge that does not forget!

f¡'w-wi¤ minh¡ ah-lah¡ wa¦-§u§ `an-n¢ wizrah¡ wa khaf-fif `an-n¢ thiq-lah¡ wa ¡'-¥im-n¢ min an uq¡rifa mith-lah¡

So, compensate their owners, lighten their load upon me, lift up their weight from me, and preserve me from approaching their like!

allahumma wa in-nahu l¡ waf¡-a l¢ bit-tawbati il-l¡ bi-i'¥-matika

O Allah, but I can not be faithful to my repentance without Your preservation,

wa-l¡s-tim-s¡ka b¢ `anil-kha§¡y¡ il-l¡ `an q£-watik

nor can I refrain from offenses without Your strength.

So strengthen me with a sufficient strength

wa tawal-lan¢ bi-i'¥-matim-m¡nia'h

And attend to me with a defending preservation!

allahumma ay-yum¡ `ab-din t¡ba ilayka

O Allah, if any servant repents to You,

wa huwa f¢ i'l-mil-ghaybi i'ndaka f¡sikhul-litawbatihi

while in Your knowledge of the Unseen he will break his repentance

wa `¡-idun f¢ dham-bihi wa kha§¢-atih

and return to his sin and offense,

fain-n¢ ao'odhu bika an ak£na kadh¡lik

I seek refuge in You lest I be like that!

faj-`al tawbat¢ hadhih¢ l¡-a a¦-t¡ju b¡'-dah¡ il¡ tawbah.

So make this my repentance, a repentance after which I will need no repentance,

tawbatam-m£jibatal-lima¦-wi m¡ salafa was-sal¡mati f¢m¡ baqi-ya

and a repentance which will obligate the erasing of what has gone by and safety in what remains!

allahum-ma  in-n¢ ¡'-tadhiru ilayka min jah-l¢

So join me to the shelter of Your mercy through graciousness
