Dua's for the Month of Rajab

Shaykh al-Mufid has mentioned in his book of ‘al-Mazar’ a special form of ziyarah that is said at visiting the holy tomb of Imam al-Husayn at this night, which is called ‘al-Ghufaylah (the neglected night)” because the majority of people are unmindful of the merit of this night.

When you want to visit Imam al-Husayn’s tomb at this night, you may enter the holy mausoleum and repeat the following statement three times:

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا آلَ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya ala allahi	Peace be upon you (all); O the Household of Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا صَفْوَةَ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya safwata allahi	Peace be upon you (all); O the elite of Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا خِيَرَةَ اللّهِ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya khiyarata allahi min khalqihi	Peace be upon you (all); O the best of Allah’s creatures.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا سَادَةَ السَّادَاتِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya sadata alssadati	Peace be upon you (all); O the masters of all masters.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا لُيُوثَ الغَابَاتِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya luyotha alghabati	Peace be upon you (all); O the lions of jungles.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا سُفُنَ النَّجَاةِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya sufuna alnnajati	Peace be upon you (all); O the arks of redemption.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِاللّهِ الحُسَيْنِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya aba `abdillahi alhusayni	Peace be upon you; O Abo-`Abdullah al-Husayn.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِلْمِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha `ilmi alanbya‘i wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu	Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you; O the inheritor of the knowledge of the Prophets.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ آدَمَ صَفْوَةِ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha adama safwati allahi	Peace be upon you; O the inheritor of Adam, the elite of Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ نُوحٍ نَبِيِّ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha nohin nabiyy allahi	Peace be upon you; O the inheritor of Noah, the Prophet of Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ خَلِيلِ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha ibrahima khalili allahi	Peace be upon you; O Abraham, the intimate friend of Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ذَبِيحِ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha isma`ila dhabihi allahi	Peace be upon you; O the inheritor of Ishmael, the slaughtered by Allah’s order.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُوسَى كَلِيمِ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha mosa kalimi allahi	Peace be upon you; O the inheritor of Moses, the spoken by Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِيسَى رُوحِ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha `isa rohi allahi	Peace be upon you; O the inheritor of Jesus, the spirit from Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُحَمَّدٍ حَبِيبِ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waritha muhammadin habibi allahi	Peace be upon you; O the inheritor of Muhammad, the dearly beloved by Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ المُصْطَفَى،	alssalamu `alayka yabna muhammadin almustafa	Peace be upon you; O the son of Muhammad, the Chosen Prophet.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ عَلِيٍّ المُرْتَضَى،	alssalamu `alayka yabna `aliyy almurtaza	Peace be upon you; O the son of `Ali, the Pleased.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ،	alssalamu `alayka yabna fatimata alz¨ra‘i	Peace be upon you; O the son of Fatimah, the Luminous.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ خَدِيجَةَ الكُبْرَى،	alssalamu `alayka yabna khadijata alkubra	Peace be upon you; O the son of Khadijah, the grand lady.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا شَهِيدُ ابْنَ الشَّهِيدِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya shahidu abna alshshahidi	Peace be upon you; O the martyr and the son of the martyr.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا قَتِيلُ ابْنَ القَتِيلِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya qatilu abna alqatili	Peace be upon you; O the slain and the son of the slain.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِيَّ اللّهِ وَابْنَ وَلِيِّهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya waliyy allahi wabna waliyyhi	Peace be upon you; O the saint and the son of the saint.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ اللّهِ وَابْنَ حُجَّتِهِ عَلَى خَلْقِهِ،	alssalamu `alayka ya hujjata allahi wabna hujjatihi `ala khalqihi	Peace be upon you; O the argument of Allah and the son of His argument against His creatures.
أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ أَقَمْتَ الصَّلاةَ،	ash-hadu annaka qad aqamta alssalata	I bear witness that you established the prayers,
وَآتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ،	wa atayta alzzkata	And you gave the zakat,
وَأَمَرْتَ بِالمَعْرُوفِ،	wa amarta bilma`rofi	And you enjoined the right,
وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ المُنْكَرِ،	wa nahayta `ani almunkari	And you forbade the wrong,
وَرُزِئْتَ بِوَالِدَيْكَ،	wa ruziita biwal-idayka	And you were deprived of your parents,
وَجَاهَدْتَ عَدُوَّكَ،	wa jahadta `aduwka	And you strove against your enemies.
وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ تَسْمَعُ الكَلامَ،	wa ash-hadu annaka tasma`u alkalama	And I bear witness that you can now hear the speech,
وَتَرُدُّ الجَوَابَ،	wa taruddu aljawaba	And you can answer back,
وَأَنَّكَ حَبِيبُ اللّهِ وَخَلِيلُهُ وَنَجِيبُهُ	wa annaka habibu allahi wa khaliluhu wa najibuhu	And you are verily the beloved of Allah and His intimate friend and selected servant
وَصَفِيُّهُ وَابْنُ صَفِيِّهِ،	wa safiyyuhu wabnu safiyyihi	And His elite and the son of His elite.
يَا مَوْلايَ وَابْنَ مَوْلايَ	ya mawlaiya wabna mawlaiya	O my master and the son of my master:
زُرْتُكَ مُشْتَاقاً	zurtuka mushtaqan	I am visiting you, because of my eagerness to you,
فَكُنْ لِي شَفِيعاً إِلَى اللّهِ يَا سَيِّدِي،	fakun li shafi`an ila allahi ya sayyidi	So, (please) my master: be my interceder before Allah,
وَأَسْتَشْفِعُ إِلَى اللّهِ بِجَدِّكَ سَيِّدِ النَّبِيِّينَ،	wa astashfi`u ila allahi bijaddka sayyidi alnnabiyyina	And I also seek the intercession of your grandfather, the Master of the Prophets, before Allah,
وَبِأَبِيكَ سَيِّدِ الوَصِيِّينَ،	wa bi-abika sayyidi alwasiyyina	And I seek the intercession of your father, the Master of the Prophets’ Successors,
وَبِأُمِّكَ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ العَالَمِينَ،	wa bi’ummka fatimata sayyidati nisa‘i al`alamina	And I seek the intercession of your mother, the Doyenne of the women of the worlds.
أَلا لَعَنَ اللّهُ قَاتِلِيكَ،	ala la`ana allahu qatilika	Verily, may Allah curse those who slew you
وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ ظَالِمِيكَ،	wa la`ana allahu ¨alimika	And may Allah curse those who wronged you
وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ سَالِبِيكَ وَمُبْغِضِيكَ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ،	wa la`ana allahu salibika wa mubghizika mina al-awwalina wal-akhirina	And may Allah curse those who deprived you (of your right) and those who hated you from the past and the coming generations.
وَصَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ.	wa salla allahu `ala sayyidina muhammadin wa alihi alttayyibina alttahirina	May Allah send blessings upon our master, Muhammad, and upon his Household—the immaculate and pure.

You may then kiss the holy tomb and direct towards the tomb of `Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s) in order to visit him. You may say the following there:

You may then walk to the tombs of the martyrs—pleasure of Allah be upon them—and stop there and say the following:

السَّلامُ عَلَى الأَرْوَاحِ المُنِيخَةِ بِقَبْرِ أَبِي عَبْدِاللّهِ الحُسَيْنِ،	alssalamu `ala al-arwahi almunikhati biqabri aby `abdillahi alhusayni	Peace be upon the souls that are residing near the tomb of Abo-`Abdullah al-Husayn.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا طَاهِرِينَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya tahirina mina alddanasi	Peace be upon you (all); O the purified from filth.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا مَهْدِيُّونَ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya mahdiyyona	Peace be upon you (all); O the well-guided ones.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا أَبْرَارَ اللّهِ،	alssalamu `alaykum ya abrara allahi	Peace be upon you (all); O the pious ones to Allah.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلَى المَلائِكَةِ الحَافِّينَ بِقُبُورِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ،	alssalamu `alaykum wa `ala almala’ikati alhaffina biquborikum ajma`ina	Peace be upon you and upon the angels surrounding all your graves.
جَمَعَنَا اللّهُ وَإِيَّاكُمْ فِي مُسْتَقَرِّ رَحْمَتِهِ	jama`ana allahu wa ‘iyyakum fi mustaqarri rahmatihi	May Allah gather us with you in the center of His mercy,
وَتَحْتَ عَرْشِهِ إِنَّهُ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ،	wa tahta `arshihi innahu arhamu alrrahimina	And under His Throne. Verily, He is the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.
وَالسَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ.	wa alssalamu `alaykum wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu	Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

You may then walk to the holy mausoleum of al-`Abbas, son of Amir al-Mu'minin, peace be upon both of them. When you reach there, you may stop at the gate of the dome and say the following:

سَلامُ اللّهِ وَسَلامُ مَلائِكَتِهِ المُقَرَّبِينَ،	salamu allahi wa salamu mala’ikatihi almuqarrabina	Peace of Allah and Peace of His favorite angels,
وَأَنْبِيَائِهِ المُرْسَلِينَ،	wa anbiya’ihi almursalina	His commissioned prophets,
وَعِبَادِهِ الصَّالِحِينَ،	wa `ibadihi alssalihina	His righteous servants,
وَجَمِيعِ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ،	wa jami`i alshshuhada‘i wal-ssiddiqina	all the martyrs, and all the veracious (ones),
وَالزَّاكِيَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ فِيمَا تَغْتَدِي وَتَرُوحُ	wal-zzakiyatu alttayyibatu fima taghtady wa tarohu	and also pure, true blessings that come and go,
عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ أَمِيرِ المُؤْمِنِينَ،	`alayka yabna amiri almu´minina	be upon you; son of Amir al-Mu'minin (chief of the faithful ones).
أَشْهَدُ لَكَ بِالتَّسْلِيمِ وَالتَّصْدِيقِ وَالوَفَاءِ	ash-hadu laka bilttaslimi wal-ttasdiqi wal-wafa‘i	I testify to you of submission (to the will of Allah), honest acceptance as true, loyalty,
وَالنَّصِيحَةِ لِخَلَفِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ المُرْسَلِ،	wal-nnasihati likhalafi alnnabiyyi salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi almursali	and sincerity with regard to the descendant of the commissioned Prophet—peace of Allah be upon him and his Household—
وَالسِّبْطِ المُنْتَجَبِ،	wal-ssibti almuntajabi	the chosen grandson (of the Prophet),
وَالدَّلِيلِ العَالِمِ،	wal-ddalili al`alimi	the well knowledgeable guide (to the true religion),
وَالوَصِيِّ المُبَلِّغِ،	wal-wasiyyi almuballighi	the conveying successor,
وَالمَظْلُومِ المُهْتَضَمِ،	wal-ma¨lomi almuhtazami	and the wrongfully oppressed one. (Namely, Imam al-Husayn ibn `Ali).
فَجَزَاكَ اللّهُ عَنْ رَسُولِهِ وَعَنْ أَمِيرِ المُؤْمِنِينَ	fajazaka allahu `an rasolihi wa `an amiri almu´minina	So, Allah may reward you on behalf of His Messenger, Amir al-Mu'minin,
وَعَنِ الحَسَنِ وَالحُسَيْنِ	wa `ani alhasani wal-husayni	Al-Hasan and al-Husayn
صَلَوَاتُ اللّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ	salawatu allahi `alayhim	peace of Allah be upon them,
أَفْضَلَ الجَزَاءِ بِمَا صَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ وَأَعَنْتَ	afzala aljaza‘i bima sabarta wahtasabta wa a`anta	With the best reward for your steadfastness, dedication (to the sake of Allah), and support (for the right party).
فَنِعْمَ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ،	fani`ma `uqba alddari	Very excellent be the reward of the eternal life.
لَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ،	la`ana allahu man qatalaka	Allah’s curse be on him who killed you.
وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ جَهِلَ حَقَّكَ،	wa la`ana allahu man jahila haqqaka	And Allah’s curse be on him who omitted your right,
وَاسْتَخَفَّ بِحُرْمَتِكَ،	wastakhaffa bihurmatika	And belittled your sanctity.
وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ حَالَ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ مَاءِ الفُرَاتِ،	wa la`ana allahu man hala baynaka wa bayna ma‘i alfurati	And Allah’s curse be on him who precluded you from having from the water of the River Euphrates.
أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قُتِلْتَ مَظْلُوماً،	ash-hadu annaka qutilta ma¨loman	I testify that you were killed wrongfully,
وَأَنَّ اللّهَ مُنْجِزٌ لَكُمْ مَا وَعَدَكُمْ،	wa ann allaha munjizun lakum ma wa`adakum	and that Allah will verily fulfill His promise that He made with you.
جِئْتُكَ يَابْنَ أَمِيرِ المُؤْمِنِينَ وَافِداً إِلَيْكُمْ	jiituka yabna amiri almu´minina wafidan ilaykum	Son of Amir al-Mu'minin: I have come to you to present myself before you.
وَقَلْبِي مُسَلِّمٌ لَكُمْ وَتَابِعٌ،	wa qalby musallimun lakum wa tabi`un	My heart is submissive to you and is following you.
وَأَنَا لَكُمْ تَابِعٌ،	wa ana lakum tabi`un	And I am your follower.
وَنُصْرَتِي لَكُمْ مُعَدَّةٌ	wa nusraty lakum mu`addatun	I am ready to support you
حَتَّى يَحْكُمَ اللّهُ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الحَاكِمِينَ،	hatta yahkuma allahu wa huwa khayru alhakimina	until Allah decides for me. He is surely the Best of all who decide.
فَمَعَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ لا مَعَ عَدُوِّكُمْ،	fama`akum ma`akum la ma`a `aduwwikum	I am verily with you, not with your enemy.
إِنِّي بِكُمْ وَبِإِيَابِكُمْ مِنَ المُؤْمِنِينَ،	inni bikum wa bi’yabikum mina almu´minina	I am one of those who believe in you and believe in your Return.
وَبِمَنْ خَالَفَكُمْ وَقَتَلَكُمْ مِنَ الكَافِرِينَ،	wa biman khalafakum wa qatalakum mina alkafirina	I also one of those who deny your opposites and killers.
قَتَلَ اللّهُ أُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكُمْ بِالأَيْدِي وَالأَلْسُنِ.	qatala allahu ‘ummatan qatalatkum bil-aydy wal-alsuni	Allah may kill the group who killed you with hands and tongues (by giving orders of killing you.)

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا العَبْدُ الصَّالِحُ	alssalamu `alayka ayyuha al`abdu alssalihu	Peace be upon you; the righteous servant (of Allah),
المُطِيعُ لِلّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلأَمِيرِ المُؤْمِنِينَ	almuti`u lillahi wa lirasolihi wa liamiri almu´minina	the obedient to Allah, His Messenger, Amir al-Mu'minin,
وَالحَسَنِ وَالحُسَيْنِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَسَلَّمَ،	wal-hasani wal-husayni salla allahu `alayhim wa sallama	al-Hasan, and al-Husayn, peace and greetings of Allah be upon them.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ	alssalamu `alayka wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu	Peace, Allah’s mercy, blessings,
وَمَغْفِرَتُهُ وَرِضْوَانُهُ وَعَلَى رُوحِكَ وَبَدَنِكَ،	wa maghfiratuhu wa rizwanuhu wa `ala rohika wa badanika	forgiveness, and gratifications be upon you, your soul, and your body.
أَشْهَدُ وَأُشْهِدُ اللّهَ أَنَّكَ مَضَيْتَ عَلَى مَا مَضَى بِهِ البَدْرِيُّونَ	ash-hadu wa a’ushhidu allaha annaka mazayta `ala ma maza bihi albadriyyona	I testify, and call Allah to witness, that you abided by the same course that was taken by the warriors of (the battle of) Badr
وَالمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ،	wal-mujahidona fi sabili allahi	and the strivers for Allah’s sake
المُنَاصِحُونَ لَهُ فِي جِهَادِ أَعْدَائِهِ،	almunasihona lahu fi jihadi a`da’ihi	who faithfully served Him in the battlefields against His enemies,
المُبَالِغُونَ فِي نُصْرَةِ أَوْلِيَائِهِ،	almubalighona fi nusrati awliya’ihi	did their bests for supporting His disciples,
الذَّابُّونَ عَنْ أَحِبَّائِهِ،	aldhdhabbona `an ahibba’ihi	and defended His intimate ones.
فَجَزَاكَ اللّهُ أَفْضَلَ الجَزَاءِ،	fajazaka allahu afzala aljaza‘i	So, Allah may reward you the best,
وَأَكْثَرَ الجَزَاءِ،	wa akthara aljaza‘i	the maximum,
وَأَوْفَرَ الجَزَاءِ،	wa awfara aljaza‘i	the most abundant,
وَأَوْفَى جَزَاءِ أَحَدٍ مِمَّنْ وَفَى بِبَيْعَتِهِ،	wa awfa jaza‘i ahadin mimmn wa fa bibay`atihi	and the most conclusive reward that He may give to anyone who fulfills his homage,
وَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُ دَعْوَتَهُ،	wastajaba lahu da`watahu	answers the call (of the religion),
وَأَطَاعَ وُلاةَ أَمْرِهِ.	wa ata`a wulata amrihi	and obeys his (divinely elected) leaders.
أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ بَالَغْتَ فِي النَّصِيحَةِ،	ash-hadu annaka qad balaghta fi alnnasihati	I testify that you served (the Lord) extremely sincerely
وَأَعْطَيْتَ غَايَةَ المَجْهُودِ،	wa a`tayta ghaiyata almajhodi	and exerted all your efforts (in this regard).
فَبَعَثَكَ اللّهُ فِي الشُّهَدَاءِ،	faba`athaka allahu fi alshshuhada‘i	Allah may attach you to the martyrs,
وَجَعَلَ رُوحَكَ مَعَ أَرْوَاحِ السُّعَدَاءِ،	wa ja`ala rohaka ma`a arwahi alssu`ada‘i	add your soul to the souls of the happy ones,
وَأَعْطَاكَ مِنْ جِنَانِهِ أَفْسَحَهَا مَنْزِلاً،	wa a`taka min jinanihi afsahaha manzilan	give you the largest abode in His Paradise
وَأَفْضَلَهَا غُرَفاً،	wa afzalaha ghurafan	and the most handsome room,
وَرَفَعَ ذِكْرَكَ فِي عِلِّيِّينَ،	wa rafa`a dhikraka fi `illiyyina	exalt your mention in `Illiyyin (the most elevated position),
وَحَشَرَكَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ	wa hasharaka ma`a alnnabiyyina wal-ssiddiqina	join you to the Prophets, the veracious (ones)
وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ	wal-shshuhada‘i wal-ssalihina	The martyrs, and the righteous (ones).
وَحَسُنَ أُولئِكَ رَفِيقاً.	wa hasuna ‘ula’ika rafiqan	Very excellent is the companionship of such ones.
أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ لَمْ تَهِنْ وَلَمْ تَنْكُلْ،	ash-hadu annaka lam tahin wa lam tankul	I testify that you did not lag behind and did not turn away the face,
وَأَنَّكَ مَضَيْتَ عَلَى بَصِيرَةٍ مِنْ أَمْرِكَ،	wa annaka mazayta `ala basiratin min amrika	and that you left this life with full awareness of the truth,
مُقْتَدِياً بِالصَّالِحِينَ،	muqtadiyan bilssalihina	following the examples of the righteous ones
وَمُتَّبِعاً لِلنَّبِيِّينَ،	wa muttbi`an lilnnbiyyina	and sticking to the Prophets.
فَجَمَعَ اللّهُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ	fajama`a allahu baynana wa baynaka	So, Allah may gather us with you,
وَبَيْنَ رَسُولِهِ وَأَوْلِيَائِهِ	wa bayna rasolihi wa awliya’ihi	His Messenger, and His disciples
فِي مَنَازِلِ المُخْبِتِينَ	fi manazili almukhbitina	in the abodes of those who practiced humbly (with their Lord).
فَإِنَّهُ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ.	fa’innahu arhamu alrrahimina	He is certainly the most Merciful of all the merciful ones.

It is expedient to say this form of ziyarah while standing behind the holy tomb and facing the kiblah direction, as is also advised by Shaykh al-±osiy in his book of ‘Tahdhib al-Ahkam’.

You may then enter, throw yourself on the tomb, and say the following while facing the kiblah direction:

According to the previously mentioned narration, the ziyarah of al-`Abbas (a.s) ends here. But Sayyid Ibn ±awos and Shaykh al-Mufid, as well as other scholars, have added the following:

You may then turn to the side of the head and offer a two-Rak`ah prayer. Afterwards, you may offer prayers as many as you wish. You may also supplicate Almighty Allah earnestly. After these prayers, you may say the following:

اللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ	allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin	O Allah: (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.
وَلا تَدَعْ لِي فِي هذَا المَكَانِ المُكَرَّمِ وَالمَشْهَدِ المُعَظَّمِ ذَنْباً إِلاَّ غَفَرْتَهُ،	wa la tada` li fi hadha almakani almukarrami wal-mash-hadi almu`a¨¨ami dhanban illa ghafartahu	and do not leave for me, in this honored place and glorified shrine, any sin (that I did) without forgiveness,
وَلا هَمّاً إِلاَّ فَرَّجْتَهُ،	wa la hamman illa farrjtahu	any care without relief,
وَلا مَرَضاً إِلاَّ شَفَيْتَهُ،	wa la marazan illa shafaytahu	any illness without cure,
وَلا عَيْباً إِلاَّ سَتَرْتَهُ،	wa la `ayban illa satartahu	any defect with covering up,
وَلا رِزْقاً إِلاَّ بَسَطْتَهُ،	wa la rizqan illa basattahu	any (source of) sustenance without expansion,
وَلا خَوْفاً إِلاَّ آمَنْتَهُ،	wa la khawfan illa amantahu	any item of terror without pacification,
وَلا شَمْلاً إِلاَّ جَمَعْتَهُ،	wa la shamlan illa jama`tahu	any disunity without reunification,
وَلا غَائِباً إِلاَّ حَفِظْتَهُ وَأَدْنَيْتَهُ،	wa la gha’iban illa hafi¨tahu wa adnaytahu	any absent one without guarding and approaching (him to me),
وَلا حَاجَةً مِنْ حَوَائِجِ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ	wa la hajatan min hawa’iji alddunya wal-akhirati	and any single need, among the many needs of this life as well as the life to come,
لَكَ فِيهَا رِضَىً وَلِيَ فِيهَا صَلاحٌ	laka fiha rizan wa liya fiha salahun	whose settlement achieves your gratification and my good,
إِلاَّ قَضَيْتَهَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.	illa qazaytaha ya arhama alrrahimina	without settlement. O He Who is the most Merciful of all the merciful ones.

You may then return to the tomb, stop at the side of the legs, and say the following:

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَاَالفَضْلِ العَبَّاسَ ابْنَ أَمِيرِ المُؤْمِنِينَ،	alssalamu `alayka ya aba alfazli al`abbasa ibna amiri almu´minina	Peace be upon you; O Abu’l-Fazl al-`Abbas, son of Amir al-Mu'minin.
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الوَصِيِّينَ،	alssalamu `alayka yabna sayyidi alwasiyyina	Peace be upon you, son of the chief of the Successors (of the Prophets.)
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ أَوَّل القَوْمِ إِسْلاماً،	alssalamu `alayka yabna awwali alqawmi islaman	Peace be upon you, son of the foremost to (the embracement of) Islam,
وَأَقْدَمِهِمْ إِيمَاناً،	wa aqdamihim ‘imanan	the first one who believed (in Allah),
وَأَقْوَمِهِمْ بِدِينِ اللّهِ،	wa aqwamihim bidini allahi	the best one who served the religion of Allah,
وَأَحْوَطِهِمْ عَلَى الإِسْلامِ.	wa ahwatihim `ala al-islami	and the most careful for Islam.
أَشْهَدُ لَقَدْ نَصَحْتَ لِلّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلأَخِيكَ	ash-hadu laqad nasahta lillahi wa lirasolihi wa li-akhika	I testify that you served Allah, His Messenger, and your brother sincerely.
فَنِعْمَ الأَخُ المُوَاسِي،	fani`ma alakhu almuwasi	You were the most excellent consoling brother.
فَلَعَنَ اللّهُ أُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ،	fala`ana allahu ‘ummatan qatalatka	So, Allah’s curse be on the group who killed you.
وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ أُمَّةً ظَلَمَتْكَ،	wa la`ana allahu ‘ummatan ¨alamatka	And Allah’s curse be on the group who wronged you.
وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ أُمَّةً اسْتَحَلَّتْ مِنْكَ المَحَارِمَ،	wa la`ana allahu ‘ummatan astahallat minka almaharima	And Allah’s curse be on the group who violated your sanctities
وَانْتَهَكَتْ حُرْمَةَ الإِسْلامِ،	wantahakat hurmata al-islami	and infringed the sanctity of Islam.
فَنِعْمَ الصَّابِرُ المُجَاهِدُ	fani`ma alssabiru almujahidu	You were the most excellent steadfast fighter,
المُحَامِي النَّاصِرُ	almuhamy alnnasiru	protector, supporter,
وَالأَخُ الدَّافِعُ عَنْ أَخِيهِ،	wal-akhu alddafi`u `an akhihi	and brother who defended his brother,
المُجِيبُ إِلَى طَاعَةِ رَبِّهِ،	almujibu ila ta`ati rabbhi	responded to the obedience to his Lord,
الرَّاغِبُ فِيمَا زَهِدَ فِيهِ غَيْرُهُ مِنَ الثَّوَابِ الجَزِيلِ،	alrraghibu fima zahida fihi ghayruhu mina alththwabi aljazili	and worked desirably for gaining the abundant reward, which others refused,
وَالثَّنَاءِ الجَمِيلِ،	wal-ththna‘i aljamili	and the nice tribute.
وَأَلْحَقَكَ اللّهُ بِدَرَجَةِ آبَائِكَ فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ.	wa alhaqaka allahu bidarajati aba’ika fi jannati alnna`imi	So, Allah may attach you to the rank of your fathers in the gardens of bliss.
اللّهُمَّ إِنِّي تَعَرَّضْتُ لِزِيَارَةِ أَوْلِيَائِكَ رَغْبَةً فِي ثَوَابِكَ،	allahumma inni ta`arrztu liziyarati awliya’ika raghbatan fi thawabika	O Allah, I have done the pilgrimage to Your disciples out of my desire for (winning) your reward
وَرَجَاءً لِمَغْفِرَتِكَ وَجَزِيلِ إِحْسَانِكَ،	wa raja‘an limaghfiratika wa jazili ihsanika	and my wish to recognize You and Your abundant benevolence.
فَأَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ الطَّاهِرِينَ،	fas’aluka an tusalliya `ala muhammadin wa alihi alttahirina	So, I implore to You to send Your blessings to Muhammad and his immaculate Household
وَأَنْ تَجْعَلَ رِزْقِي بِهِمْ دَارّاً،	wa an taj`ala rizqy bihim darran	and make my sustenance, by their intercession, flow copiously,
وَعَيْشِي بِهِمْ قَارّاً،	wa `ayshy bihim qarran	my living delightful,
وَزِيَارَتِي بِهِمْ مَقْبُولَةً،	wa ziyaraty bihim maqbolatan	my pilgrimage rewardable,
وَحَيَاتِي بِهِمْ طَيِّبَةً،	wa hayaty bihim tayyibatan	and my life pleasant.
وَأَدْرِجْنِي إِدْرَاجَ المُكْرَمِينَ،	wa adrijny idraja almukramina	And make me take to the conduct of the honored ones
وَاجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ يَنْقَلِبُ مِنْ زِيَارَةِ مَشَاهِدِ أَحِبَّائِكَ	waj`alny mimman yanqalibu min ziyarati mashahidi ahibba’ika	and make me one of those who, as returning from the pilgrimage to the tombs of Your beloved ones,
مُفْلِحاً مُنْجِحاً	muflihan munjihan	win success and prosperity
قَدِ اسْتَوْجَبَ غُفْرَانَ الذُّنُوبِ،	qad istawjaba ghufrana aldhdhunobi	and deserve forgiveness of sins,
وَسَتْرَ العُيُوبِ،	wa satra al`uyobi	covering up of defects,
وَكَشْفَ الكُرُوبِ،	wa kashfa alkurobi	and relief of disasters
إِنَّكَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ المَغْفِرَةِ.	innaka ahlu alttaqwa wa ahlu almaghfirati	You are surely worthy of being feared and worthy of forgiving.

If you intend to take leave, you may approach the holy tomb and say the following, which has been reported from Abo-Hamzah al-Thamaliy, and other scholars have referred to it:

أَسْتَوْدِعُكَ اللّهَ وَأَسْتَرْعِيكَ	astawdi`uka allaha wa astar`ika	I seek, through you, the guard and custody of Allah
وَأَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلامَ،	wa aqra’u `alayka alssalama	and I say: Peace be to you.
آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِ وَبِكِتَابِهِ	amanna billahi wa birasolihi wa bikitabihi	We have believed in Allah and in His Messenger and in His Book
وَبِمَا جَاءَ بِهِ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللّهِ،	wa bima ja‘a bihi min `indi allahi	and in that which he conveyed from Allah.
اللّهُمَّ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ،	allahumma faktubna ma`a alshshahidina	O Allah, record our names with the witnesses.
اللّهُمَّ لا تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ العَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِي قَبْرَ ابْنِ أَخِي رَسُولِكَ	allahumma la taj`alhu akhira al`ahdi min ziyaraty qabra abni akhy rasolika	O Allah, do not decide this pilgrimage to the tomb of the son of Your Messenger’s brother the last one.
صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ،	salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi	Peace be upon him (i.e. the Messenger) and upon his Household.
وَارْزُقْنِي زِيَارَتَهُ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي،	warzuqny ziyaratahu abadan ma abqaytani	Grant me opportunities to visit him so long as You keep me alive,
وَاحْشُرْنِي مَعَهُ وَمَعَ آبَائِهِ فِي الجِنَانِ،	wahshurny ma`ahu wa ma`a aba’ihi fi aljinani	and join me to him and his fathers in the gardens of Paradise,
وَعَرِّفْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ رَسُولِكَ وَأَوْلِيَائِكَ.	wa `arrif bayny wa baynahu wa bayna rasolika wa awliya’ika	and introduce me to him, to Your Messenger, and to Your disciples.
اللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ	allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin	O Allah, send Your blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad
وَتَوَفَّنِي عَلَى الإِيمَانِ بِكَ،	wa tawaffany `ala al’imani bika	and take me to you abiding by the believing in You,
وَالتَّصْدِيقِ بِرَسُولِكَ،	wal-ttasdiqi birasolika	giving credence to Your Messenger,
وَالوِلايَةِ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَالأَئِمَّةِ مِنْ وُلْدِهِ،	wal-wilayati li`aliyyi bni aby talibin wal-a’immati min wuldihi	being faithful to `Ali ibn Abo-±alib and the Imams from his progeny;
وَالبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ عَدُوِّهِمْ،	wal-bara‘ati min `aduwwihim	And disavowing their enemy.
فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَضِيتُ يَا رَبِّي بِذلِكَ،	fa’inni qad razitu ya rabby bidhlika	My Lord, I have accepted such.
وَصَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ.	wa salla allahu `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin	Allah may send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلايَ وَابْنَ مَوْلايَ،	alssalamu `alayka ya mawlaiya wabna mawlaiya	Peace be upon you; O my master and the son of my master.
لَعَنَ اللّهُ قَاتِلِيكَ،	la`ana allahu qatilika	May Allah curse those who slew you.
وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ ظَالِمِيكَ،	wa la`ana allahu ¨alimika	And may Allah curse those who wronged you.
إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَى اللّهِ بِزِيَارَتِكُمْ وَبِمَحَبَّتِكُمْ،	inni ataqarrabu ila allahi biziyaratikum wa bimahabbatikum	Verily, I seek nearness to Allah through my visiting you and showing my love for you (all).
وَأَبْرَأُ إِلَى اللّهِ مِنْ أَعْدَائِكُمْ،	wa abra’u ila allahi min a`da’ikum	And I release myself before Allah from your enemies.
وَالسَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلايَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ.	wa alssalamu `alayka ya mawlaiya wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu	Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you, O my master.
