Salaat of Masoomeen -Prayers on Fridays Excluding the Friday Supererogatory Prayer (Nafilat al-Jumu`ah), many other optional prayers are reported to be offered on Fridays. Although the majority of these prayers are not dedicated to Fridays, it is highly recommended to offer them on Fridays.

The Holy Prophet’s (saw)Prayer

Sayyid Ibn Tawus, may Allah have mercy on him, has narrated, through an authenticated chain of authority, that when he was asked about Ja`far al-Tayyar’s Prayer, Imam al-Rida (`a) said, “Have you known about the Holy Prophet’s Prayer? Perhaps, the Holy Prophet (s) had never offered Ja`far al-Tayyar’s Prayer and Ja`far al-Tayyar had never offered the Holy Prophet’s Prayer.” When the asker asked him to teach him that prayer, Imam al-Rida (`a) said,
Offer a two-unit prayer reciting in each unit Surah al-Fatihah (No. 1) once and Surah al-Qadr (No. 97) fifteen times. When you come to the Ruku` (genuflection), repeat it (i.e. Surah al-Qadr) fifteen times; when you raise your body after the Ruku`, recite it fifteen times; when you do the Sujud (prostration), repeat it fifteen times; when you raise your head from the Sujud, repeat it fifteen times; when you do the second prostration, repeat it fifteen times; and when you raise your head from the second prostration, repeat it fifteen times. When you finish your prayer, you will have all your sins forgiven by Almighty Allah and you will have all your requests granted for you. The supplication that should be said thereafter is as follows:

la ilaha illa allahu
There is no god save Allah;

rabbuna wa rabbu aba'ina al-awwalina
our Lord and the Lord of our fathers of old.

la ilaha illa allahu
There is no god save Allah;

ilahan wahidan wa nahnu lahu muslimuna
one God, and to Him are we submissive.

la ilaha illa allahu
There is no god save Allah;

la na`budu illa iyyahu
we worship none save Him,

mukhlisina lahu alddina
making our devotion sincere as in His sight

wa law kariha almushrikuna
even though the polytheists may detest it.

la ilaha illa allahu
There is no god save Allah;

wahdahu wahdahu wahdahu
alone, alone, alone,

anjaza wa`dahu
He has truly fulfilled His promise,

wa nasara `abdahu
granted His servant victory,

wa a`azza jundahu
made powerful His soldiers,

wa hazama al-ahzaba wahdahu
and defeated the parties alone.

falahu almulku wa lahu alhamdu
All sovereignty be His and all praise be to Him.

wa huwa `ala kulli shay'in qadirun
And He has power over all things.

allahumma anta nuru alssamawati wal-ardi wa man fihinna
O Allah, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in these two.

falaka alhamdu
So, all praise be to You.

wa anta qayyamu alssamawati wal-ardi wa man fihinna
And You are the Fashioner of the heavens and the earth and whatever exists in these two.

falaka alhamdu
So, all praise be to You.

wa anta alhaqqu
You are the (utter) Truth,

wa wa`duka alhaqqu
Your promise is utterly true,

wa qawluka haqqun
Your word is true,

wa injazuka haqqun
Your fulfillment is true,

wal-jannatu haqqun
Paradise is true,

walnnaru haqqun
and Hellfire is true.

allahumma laka aslamtu
O Allah, to You have I surrendered,

wa bika amantu
in You do I believe,

wa `alayka tawakkaltu
on You do I rely,

wa bika khasamtu
for Your sake do I dispute,

wa ilayka hakamtu
and Your judgment do I seek.

ya rabbi ya rabbi ya rabbi
O my Lord; O my Lord; O my Lord;

ighfir li ma qaddamtu wa akhkhartu
(please) forgive me my past and next sins

wa asrartu wa a`lantu
and my hidden and open ones.

anta ilahi la ilaha illa anta
You are verily my God; there is no god save You.

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
Send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

and accept my repentance.

innaka anta alttawwabu alrrahimu
Verily, You are the Oft-Returning, the Most Merciful.

Lady Fatimah al-Zahra'’s (sa) Prayer

It is narrated that Lady Fatimah al-Zahra', peace be upon her, used to offer a two-unit prayer taught by Archangel Gabriel. In the first unit, she used to recite Surah al-Fatihah and repeat Surah al-Qadr one hundred times. In the second unit, she used to recite Surah al-Fatihah and Surah al-Tawhid. After Taslim (i.e. the concluding part of a prayer), she would say the following litany:
subhana dhi al`izzi alshshamikhi almunifi
Glory be to the Lord of Honor and Sublime Authority.

subhana dhi aljalali albadhikhi al`azimi
Glory be to the Lord of Majesty and Exalted Greatness.

subhana dhi almulki alfakhiri alqadimi
Glory be to the Lord of eternal, splendid sovereignty.

subhana man labisa albahjata waljamala
Glory be to Him Who dressed Himself with splendor and beauty.

subhana man taradda bilnnuri walwaqari
Glory be to Him Who is clad in light and dignity.

subhana man yara athara alnnamli fi alssafa
Glory be to Him Who makes out the footprints of the ant on the stone.

subhana man yara waq`a alttayri fi alhawa'i
Glory be to Him Who knows (the exact time and place of) the bird dipping down through the air.

subhana man huwa hakadha la hakadha ghayruhu
Glory be to Him Who is like this and no one (other than Him) is like this.

Sayyid Ibn Tawus adds that it is better to say the famous Tasbih al-Zahra' after offering this prayer and then invoke Almighty Allah’s blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household.
However, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, Shaykh al-Tusi has recorded that Lady Fatimah al-Zahra'’s prayer consists of two units in the first of which Surah al-Fatihah is recited once and Surah al-Qadr is repeated one hundred times; and in the second unit, Surah al-Fatihah is recited once and Surah al-Tawhid is repeated one hundred times. After the Taslim, Tasbih al-Zahra' is said and then one’s knees and arms are uncovered so as to embrace the ground with all organs of prostration without putting any barrier between the ground and the organs of prostration. Such being the case, one should supplicate to Almighty Allah and pray for granting one’s requests. Being prostrating oneself, one should say the following supplicatory prayer:
ya man laysa ghayrahu rabbun yud`a
O He besides Whom there is no lord to be supplicated!

ya man laysa fawqahu ilahun yukhsha
O He above Whom there is no god to be feared!

ya man laysa dunahu malikun yuttaqa
O He except Whom there is no master to be revered!

ya man laysa lahu wazirun yu'ta
O He Who has no counselor to be approached!

ya man laysa lahu hajibun yursha
O He Who has no attendant to be bribed!

ya man laysa lahu bawwabun yughsha
O He Who has no doorkeeper to be visited (secretly)!

O He Who gives not but generously and liberally no matter how many the demands are

wa `ala kathrati aldhdhunubi illa `afwan wa safhan
and deals not with numerous sins but mercifully and kindly!

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin…
Send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household…

And then one may mention one’s personal requests.
Lady Fatimah al-Zahra'’s (sa)Another Prayer
Shaykh al-Tusi and Sayyid Ibn Tawus have reported on the authority of Safwan that Muhammad ibn `Ali al-Halabi, once, visited Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (`a) one Friday and asked him to teach him the best deed to be practiced on Fridays. The Imam (`a) said: Listen, Muhammad! I do not know any one who was more beloved and more respected than Lady Fatimah al-Zahra', peace be upon her, in the view of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his Household. Likewise, I do not know anything that was more valuable than that which he had taught her to do on Fridays. In Friday morning, one should bathe oneself, stand upright, and offer a four-unit prayer each two alone. In the first unit, recite Surah al-Fatihah once and repeat Surah al-Tawhid fifty times. In the second, recite Surah al-Fatihah once and repeat Surah al-`ªdiyat (No. 100) fifty times. In the third, recite Surah al-Fatihah once and repeat Surah al-Zalzalah (No. 99) fifty times. In the fourth, recite Surah al-Fatihah once and repeat Surah al-Nasr (No. 110) fifty times. This Surah was the concluding revelation. Upon accomplishment of the prayer, pray Almighty Allah with the following supplicatory prayer:

ya ilahi wa sayyidi
O My God and Master,

man tahayya'a aw ta`abba'a
whilst one prepares oneself, sets up,

aw a`adda aw ista`adda
arranges, or gets ready

li-wifadati makhluqin
for visiting a mortal

raja'a rifdihi wa fawa'idihi
in the hope of attaining a gift, interests,

a souvenir, bequests, or presents from him,

to You, O my God, have I prepared myself, set up,

wa i`dadi wasti`dadi
arranged and got ready

raja'a fawa'idika wa ma`rufika
in the hope of attaining Your interests, favors,

wa na'ilika wa jawa'izika
souvenirs, and presents.

fala tukhayyibni min dhalika
Hence, (please) do not disappoint me of all these.

ya man la takhibu `alayhi mas'alatu alssa'ili
O You with Whom no asker is disappointed

wa la tanqusuhu `atiyyatu na'ilin
and no present of an earner causes You reduction.

fa'inni lam atika bi`amalin salihin qaddamtuhu
In fact, I have not come to You with a righteous deed that I have done

wa la shafa`ati makhluqin rajawtuhu
nor with an intercession of a creature that I hope

ataqarrabu ilayka bishafa`atihi
to seek Your nearness through him

illa muhammadan wa ahla baytihi
save Muhammad and his Household,

salawatuka `alayhi wa `alayhim
Your blessings be upon him and them.

ataytuka arju `azima `afwika
I am coming to You hoping for Your munificent amnesty

alladhi `udta bihi `ala alkhatta'ina
that You have conferred upon the sinners

`inda `ukufihim `ala almharimi
who confined themselves to the commitment to forbidden acts;

falam yamna`ka tulu `ukufihim `ala almharimi
nevertheless, their long-lasting commitment to forbidden acts has not made You

an judta `alayhim bilmaghfirati
stop conferring upon them with Your forgiveness.

You, O my Master, always confer upon me with Your graces

wa ana al`awwadu bilkhata'i
while I always recommit sins.

as'aluka bihaqqi muhammadin wa alihi alttahirina
I thus ask You by the Right of Muhammad and his Household, the Immaculate,

an taghfira li dhanbiya al`azima
to forgive my grand sins,

for none forgives the grand sins but the All-great.

ya `azimu ya `azimu ya `azimu
O All-great, O All-great, O All-great,

ya `azimu ya `azimu ya `azimu
O All-great, O All-great, O All-great,

ya`azimu
O All-great!

In his book of Jamal al-Usbu`, Sayyid Ibn Tawus has recorded a special prayer and supplication for each of the holy Imams. Hereinafter, let us mention these prayers and supplication:

Imam `Ali’s (as)Prayer

Shaykh al-Tusi and Sayyid Ibn Tawus have recorded that Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (`a) said: One who offers the four-unit prayer of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (`a) will be as free of sins as newborns and will have all his requests granted. In the first unit, recite Surah al-Fatihah (No. 1) once and repeat Surah al-Tawhid (No. 112) fifty times. On accomplishment, say the following litany of Imam `Ali, peace be upon him:

subhana man la tabidu ma`alimuhu
Glory be to Him Whose signs never perish.

subhana man la tanqusu khaza'inuhu
Glory be to Him Whose reserves never downgrade.

subhana man la idmihlala lifakhrihi
Glory be to Him Whose honor never vanishes.

subhana man la yanfadu ma `indahu
Glory be to Him Whose possessions never run out.

subhana man la inqita`a limuddatihi
Glory be to Him Whose duration (of existence) is never interrupted.

subhana man la yushariku ahadan fi amrihi
Glory be to Him Who never betakes to Himself a partner in His affairs.

subhana man la ilaha ghayruhu
Glory be to Him save Whom there is no god.

Thereafter, say the following supplicatory prayer:
ya man `afa `ani alssayyi'ati wa lam yujazi biha
O He who overlooks sins and does not inflict punishment in return,

irham `abdaka ya allahu
(please) have mercy on Your servant, O Allah,

nafsi nafsi
that is I myself, that is I myself.

ana `abduka ya sayyidahu
I am Your servant, O my Chief,

ana `abduka bayna yadayka ya rabbahu
I am Your servant; I am at Your disposal; O my Lord.

ilahi bikaynunatika ya amalahu
O my God, in the name of Your Being, O my Hope,

ya rahmanahu ya ghiyathahu
O my All-beneficent, O my Supporter,

`abduka `abduka la hilata lahu
Your servant, Your servant, has no strategy.

ya muntaha raghbatahu
O Ultimate of my desire!

ya mujriya alddami fi `uruqi `abdika
O He Who makes blood run into the veins of Your slave!

ya sayyidahu ya malikahu
O my Chief, O my Master!

aya huwa aya huwa ya rabbahu
O He Who is Unique! O He Who is Unique! O my Lord!

`abduka `abduka
I—Your servant, Your servant—

have no strategy and I cannot avail myself

and I have no control over loss or over profit.

wa la ajidu man usani`uhu
I do not find anyone from whom I may seek help;

taqatta`at asbabu alkhada'i`i `anni
so, all profitable avenues have been blocked,

wadmahalla kullu maznunin `anni
and all my expectations have turned into disappointments.

afradani alddahru ilayka
Helpless and forsaken I came to You,

faqumtu bayna yadayka hadha almaqama
So, I have presented myself before You in this current stand.

ya ilahi bi`ilmika kana hadha kulluhu
O my God, You are aware of all that which I speak about.

fakayfa anta sani`un bi
So, how would You deal with me?

wa layta shi`ri kayfa taqulu lidu`a'i
If I but knew how would You dispense with my prayer?

ataqulu na`am am taqulu la
Would You say, ‘Yes’ or ‘No’?

fa-in qulta la fayawayli yawayli yawayli
If You say ‘No,’ then I am ruined! I am ruined! I am ruined!

ya `awli ya `awli ya `awli
Woe to me! Woe to me! Woe to me!

ya shiqwati ya shiqwati ya shiqwati
Oh my misery! Oh my misery! Oh my misery!

ya dhulli ya dhulli ya dhulli
Oh my ill-luck! Oh my ill-luck! Oh my ill-luck!

ila man wa mimman
To whom? By Whom?

aw `inda man aw kayfa aw madha
From whom? How? What?

aw ila ayyi shay'in alja'u
In which place to take shelter?

wa man arju
For whom shall I hope?

wa man yajudu `alayya bifadlihi hina tarfuduni
Who shall bestow upon me with his favor when You forsake me?

ya wasi`a almaghfirati
O Liberal in forgiveness!

But if You say ‘Yes,’ as I expect You to say and as I desire from You,

fatuba li ana alssa`idu wa ana almas`udu
then joy is for me, I am successful, I am happy;

fatuba li wa ana almarhumu
then joy is for me, I will receive (Your) mercy.

ya mutarahhimu ya mutara''ifu
O Ever-merciful! O Ever-compassionate!

ya muta`attifu ya mutahanninu
O Ever-sympathetic! O Ever-commiserating!

ya mutamalliku ya muqsitu
O Ever-sovereign! O Just!

la `amala li ablughu bihi najaha hajati
I lack any act due to which I can attain achievement of my desire.

as'aluka bismika alladhi ja`altahu fi maknuni ghaybika
I thus beseech You in the name of Your Name which You have reserved in the innermost of Your Hidden Knowledge

wastaqarra `indaka fala yakhruju minka ila shay'in siwaka
and it has thus settled with You so firmly that nothing of it can come out from You to any other thing.

as'aluka bihi wa bika fa'innahu ajallu wa ashrafu asma'ika
I beseech You by it and by You, for it is certainly the most exalted and honored of Your Names.

la shay'a li ghayru hadha
I have nothing to mention except this,

wa la ahada a`wadu `alayya minka
and no one can be more beneficent to me than You.

ya kaynunu ya mukawwinu
O Absolute Being! O Creator of creation!

ya man `arrafani nafsahu
O He Who has introduced Himself to me!

ya man amarani bita`atihi
O He Who has commanded me to obey Him!

ya man nahani `an ma`siyatihi
O He Who has warned me against disobeying Him!

wa ya mad`uwwu ya mas'ulu
O He Who is besought! O He Who is pleaded!

ya matluban ilayhi
O He Who is desired!

rafadtu wasiyyataka allati awsaytani wa lam uti`ka
I have overlooked Your instructions, which You gave me and have not obeyed You.

wa law ata`tuka fima amartani lakafaytani ma qumtu ilayka fihi
If I obeyed You in what You have ordered me, You would certainly grant my requests that I am presenting before You.

wa ana ma`a ma`siyati laka rajin
In spite of my transgression, I am hopeful for You.

fala tahul bayni wa bayna ma rajawtu
So, do not let my hope remain unfulfilled.

ya mutarahhiman li a`idhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi
O He Who always has mercy upon me, keep me safe, under Your protection, from (all evils that are) before me, behind me,

wa min fawqi wa min tahti
above me, below me,

wa min kulli jihati al-ihatati bi
and from all sides that surround me.

allahumma bimuhammadin sayyidi
O Allah, [I beseech You] in the name of Muhammad, my master,

wa bi`aliyyin waliyyi
and [in the name of] `Ali, my chief,

wa bil-a'immati alrrashidina `alayhimu alssalamu
and [in the names of] the orthodox Imams (leaders), peace be upon them,

ij`al `alayna salawatika wa ra'fataka wa rahmataka
(please) bestow upon us with Your blessings, compassions, and mercy;

wa awsi` `alayna min rizqika
and grant us expansive shares of Your sustenance;

waqdi `anna alddayna wa jami`a hawa'ijina
and help us repay our debts and settle all our needs,

ya allahu ya allahu ya allahu
O Allah, O Allah, O Allah.

innaka `ala kulli shay'in qadirun
Verily, You have full power over all things.
