Sahifa Sajjadia Seeking Refuge from Hateful Things
دُعَاؤُهُ فِي الْمُهِمَّاتِ
Imam Zainul Abideen(as) son of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as)'s supplication - 8-Seeking Refuge from Hateful Things

أَللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَيَجَـانِ الْحِرْصِ ،
al-laahum-ma in-neee au'wd'u bika min- hayajaanil-h'ir-s'
1.O God, I seek refuge in You from the agitation of craving,

وَسَوْرَةِ الغَضَبِ وَغَلَبَةِ الْحَسَدِ وضَعْفِ الصَّبْرِ
wa saw-ratil-ghaz''ab wa ghalabatil-h'asad wa z''aa'-fis'-s'ab-r
2.the violence of wrath, the domination of envy, the frailty of patience,

وَقِلَّةِ الْقَنَاعَةِ وَشَكَاسَةِ الْخُلُقِ ،
wa qil-latil-qanaaa'h wa shakaasatil-khuluq
3.the lack of contentment, surliness of character,

وَإلْحَاحِ الشَّهْوَةِ ، وَمَلَكَةِ الْحَمِيَّةِ ،
wa il-h'aah'ish-shah-wah wa malakatil-h'amee-yah
4.urgency of passion, the disposition to vehemence,

وَمُتَابَعَةِ الْهَوَى ، وَمُخَالَفَةِ الْهُدَى ،
wa mutaabaa'til-hawaa wa mukhaalafatil-hudaa
5.following caprice, opposing guidance,

وَسِنَةِ الْغَفْلَةِ ، وَتَعَاطِي الْكُلْفَةِ ،
wa sinatil-ghaf-lah wa taa'at'eel-kul-fah
6.the sleep of heedlessness, undertaking the toilsome,

وَإيْثَارِ الْبَاطِلِ عَلَى الْحَقِّ وَالإصْرَارِ عَلَى الْمَأثَمِ ،
wa eethaaril-baat'ili a'laal-h'aq wal-is'-raari a'laal-maa-tham
7.preferring falsehood over truth, persisting in sin,

وَاسْتِصْغَـارِ الْمَعْصِيَـةِ ، وَاسْتِكْثَارِ الطَّاعَةِ ،
was-tis'-ghaaril-maa'-s'eeah was-tik-baarit'-t'aaa'h
8.making little of disobedience, making much of obedience,

وَمُبَاهَاةِ الْمُكْثِرِينَ ، وَالإزْرآءِ بِالْمُقِلِّينَ ،
wa mubaahaatil-muk-thireen wal-iz-raaa-i bil-muqil-leen
9.vying with the wealthy, distitleging the poor,

وَسُوءِ الْوِلاَيَةِ لِمَنْ تَحْتَ أَيْدِينَا
wa sooo-il-wilaayati liman tah'-ta ay-deenaa
10.guarding badly over those in our hands,

وَتَرْكِ الشُّكْرِ لِمَنِ اصْطَنَعَ الْعَارِفَةَ عِنْدَنَا ،
wa tar-kish-shuk-ri limanis'-t'anaa'l-a'arifata i'ndanaa
11.failing to thank those who have done good to us,

أَوْ أَنْ نَعْضُدَ ظَالِماً ، أَوْ نَخْذُلَ مَلْهُوفاً ،
aw an-naa'-z''uda z'aalimaa aw nakh-d'ula mal-hoofaa
12.aiding a wrongdoer, abandoning someone troubled,

أَوْ نَرُومَ مَا لَيْسَ لَنَا بِحَقّ،
aw narooma maa lay-sa lanaa bih'aqqan
13.wanting what is not rightfully ours,

أَوْ نَقُولَ فِي الْعِلْمِْ بِغَيْرِ عِلْم
aw naqoola fil-i'l-mi bighay-ri i'l-m
14.and speaking about knowledge without knowing.

وَنَعُـوذُ بِـكَ أَنْ نَنْطَوِيَ عَلَى غِشِّ أَحَد ،
wa nau'wd'u bika an-nant'aweea a'laa ghish-shi ah'ad
15.We seek refuge in You from harbouring dishonesty toward anyone,

وَأَنْ نُعْجَبَ بِأَعْمَالِنَا ، وَنَمُدَّ فِي آمَالِنَا ،
wa an-nua'-jiba bia'-maalinaa wa namud-da feee aaamaalinaa
16.being pleased with our works, and stretching out our expectations.

وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ سُوءِ السَّرِيرَةِ ، وَاحْتِقَارِ الصَّغِيرَةِ ،
wa nau'wd'u bika min sooo-is-sareerah wa ah'-tiqaaris'-s'agheerah
17.We seek refuge in You from ill-mindedness, looking down on the small,

وَأَنْ يَسْتَحْوِذَ عَلَيْنَا الشَّيْطَانُ ،
wa ay-yas-tah'-wid'a a'lay-naash-shay-t'aan
18.Satan's gaining mastery over us,

أَوْ يَنْكُبَنَـا الزَّمَانُ ، أَوْ يَتَهَضَّمَنَا السُّلْطَانُ.
aw yankubanaaz-zamaan aw yatahaz''-z''amunaas-sul-t'aan
19.time's afflicting us, and the sovereign's oppressing us.

وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ تَنَاوُلِ الإسْرَافِ ، وَمِنْ فِقْدَانِ الْكَفَـافِ
wa nau'wd'u bika min tanaawulil-is-raaf wa min fiq-daanil-kafaaf
20.We seek refuge in You from acting with prodigality and not having sufficiency.

وَنَعُوذُ بِـكَ مِنْ شَمَاتَةِ الأَعْدَاءِ وَمِنَ الْفَقْرِ إلَى الاَكْفَاءِ
wa nau'wd'u bika min shamaatatil-aa'-daaa-i wa minal-faq-ri ilaal-ak-faaa-i
21.We seek refuge in You from the gloating of enemies, indigent need for equals,

وَمِنْ مَعِيشَة فِي شِدَّة وَمَيْتَة عَلَى غَيْـرِ عُدَّة.
wa mim-mae'eshatin fee shid-dah wa meetatin a'laa ghay-ri u'd-dah
22.living in hardship, and dying without readiness.

وَنَعُـوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْحَسْرَةِ الْعُظْمى ،
wa nau'wd'u bika minal-h'as-ratil-u'z'-maa
23.We seek refuge in You from the most dreadful remorse,

وَالْمُصِيبَةِ الْكُبْرَى ، وَأَشْقَى الشَّقَآءِ وَسُوءِ المآبِ ،
wal-mus'eebatil-kub-raa wa ash-qaash-shaqaaa-i wa sooo-il-maaab
24.the greatest affliction, the most wretched wretchedness, the evil end to the journey,

وَحِرْمَانِ الثَّوَابِ ، وَحُلُولِ الْعِقَابِ.
wa h'ir-maanith-thawaab wa h'uloolil-i'qaab
25.the deprivation of reward, and the advent of punishment.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ ،
al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih
26.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَلِكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ
wa ai'd'-nee min kul-li d'alika birah'-matika
27.and through Your mercy, give to me refuge from all of that,

وَجَمِيـعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
wa jameea'l-moo-mineena wal-moo-minaat
28.and to all the faithful, both men and women!

يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.
yaaa ar-h'amar-raah'imeen
29.O Most Merciful of the merciful!
