Supplication 46 On the Day of Fast-Breaking and on Friday
Sahifa Sajjadia
دُعَاؤُهُ فِي عِيدِ الْفِطْرِ وَ الْجُمُعَةِ
Imam Zainul Abideen(as) son of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as)'s supplication - 48 from Sahifa Sajjadiyah (Psalms of Islam) On the Day of Sacrifice and Friday

يَا مَنْ يَرْحَمُ مَنْ لا يَرْحَمُهُ الْعِبَادُ.
yaa may-yar-h'amu mal-laa yar-h'amuhul-i'baad
1.O He who has mercy upon him toward whom the servants show no mercy!

وَيَا مَنْ يَقْبَلُ مَنْ لا تَقْبَلُهُ الْبِلاَدُ.
wa yaa may-yaq-balu mal-laa taq-baluhul-bilaad
2.O He who accepts him whom the cities will not accept!

وَيَا مَن لاَ يَحْتَقِرُ أَهْلَ الْحَاجَةِ إلَيْهِ.
wa yaa mal-laa yah'-taqiru ah-lal-h'aajati ilay-h
3.O He who looks not down upon those who have need of Him!

وَيَا مَنْ لا يُخَيِّبُ المَلِحِّيْنَ عَلَيْـهِ،
wa yaa mal-laa yukhay-yibul-mulih'-h'eena a'lay-h
4.O He who disappoints not those who implore Him!

وَيَا مَنْ لاَ يَجْبَهُ بِالرَّدِّ أَهْلَ الدَّالَّةِ عَليهِ،
wa yaa mal-laa yaj-bahoo bir-rad-di ah-lad-daaal-lati a'lay-h
5.O He who slaps not the brow of the people of boldness toward Him with rejection!

وَيَا مَنْ يَجْتَبِي صَغِيرَ مَايُتْحَفُ بِهِ،
wa yaa may-yaj-tabee s'agheera maa yut-h'afu bihee
6.O He who collects the little that is given to Him

وَيَشْكُرُ يَسِيرَ مَا يُعْمَلُ لَهُ.
wa yash-kuru yaseera maa yua'-malu lah
7.and shows gratitude for the paltry that is done for Him!

وَيَامَنْ يَشْكُرُ عَلَى الْقَلِيْلِ، وَيُجَازيْ بِالْجَلِيلِ،
wa yaa may-yash-kuru a'laal-qaleeli wa yujaazee bil-jaleel
8.O He who shows gratitude for the small and rewards with the great!

وَيَا مَنْ يَدْنُو إلَى مَنْ دَنا مِنْهُ
wa yaa may-yad-nooo ilaa man danaa min-h
9.O He who comes close to him who comes close to Him!

وَيَا مَنْ يَدعُو إلَى نَفْسِهِ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ عَنْهُ،
wa yaa may-yad-o'ow ilaa naf-sihee man ad-bara a'n-h
10.O He who invites to Himself him who turns his back on Him!

وَيَا مَنْ لا يُغَيِّرُ النِّعْمَةَ، وَلا يُبَادِرُ بِالنَّقِمَةِ،
wa yaa mal-laa yughay-yirun-nia'-mah wa laa yubaadiru bin-naq-mah
11.O He who changes not favour and rushes not to vengeance!

وَيَا مَنْ يُثْمِرُ الْحَسَنَةَ حَتَّى يُنْمِيَهَا،
wa yaa may-yuth-mirul-h'asanata h'at-taa yunam-meeahaa
12.O He who causes the good deed to bear fruit so that He may make it grow,

وَيَتَجَاوَزُ عَنِ السَّيِّئَةِ حَتَّى يُعَفِّيَهَا.
wa yatajaawazu a'nis-sayi-ati h'at-taa yua'f-feeahaa
13.and overlooks the evil deed so that He may efface it!

انْصَرَفَتِ الآمَالُ دُونَ مَدى كَرَمِكَ بِالحَاجَاتِ
ans'arafatil-aaamaalu doona madaa karamika bil-h'aajaat
14.Hopes turn back with needs fulfilled short of the extent of Your generosity,

وَامْتَلاَتْ بِفَيْضِ جُودِكَ أَوْعِيَةُ الطَّلِبات،
wam-talaat bifay-z''i joodika aw-e'eatut'-t'alibaat
15.the cups of requests fill up with the overflow of Your munificence,

وَتَفَسَّخَتْ دُونَ بُلُوغِ نَعْتِـكَ الصِّفَاتُ،
wa tafas-sakhat d-doona bulooghi naa'-tikas'-s'ifaatu
16.and attributes fall apart without reaching Your description.

فَلَكَ الْعُلُوُّ الأعْلَى فَوْقَ كُلِّ عَال،
falakal-u'loo-wul-aa'-laa faw-qa kul-li a'al
17.For to You belongs the highest highness above everything high,

وَالْجَلاَلُ الأمْجَدُ فَوْقَ كُلِّ جَلاَل،
wal-jalaalul-am-jadu faw-qa kul-li jalaal
18.and the most glorious majesty beyond every majesty!

كُلُّ جَلِيْل عِنْدَكَ صَغِيرٌ،
kul-lu jaleelin i'ndaka s'agheer
19.Everything majestic before You is small,

وَكُلُّ شَرِيف فِي جَنْبِ شَرَفِكَ حَقِيرٌ،
wa kul-lu shareefin fee jambi sharafika h'aqeer
20.everything eminent beside Your eminence vile!

خَابَ الْوَافِدُونَ عَلَى غَيْرِكَ،
khaabal-waafidoona a'laa ghay-rik
21.Those who reach other than You are disappointed,

وَخَسِرَ الْمُتَعَرِّضُونَ إلاَّ لَكَ، وَضَاعَ الْمُلِمُّونَ إلاّ بِكَ،
wa khasiral-mutaa'r-riz''oona il-laa lak wa z''aaa'l-mulim-moona il-laa bik
22.those who present themselves to other than You have lost, those who stay with other than You have perished,

وَأَجْدَبَ الْمُنْتَجِعُـونَ إلاَّ مَنِ انْتَجَعَ فَضْلَكَ،
wa aj-dabal-muntajiu'wna il-laa mani antajaa' faz''-lak
23.and those who retreat - except those who retreat to Your bounty - are desolate!

بَابُكَ مَفْتُوحٌ لِلرَّاغِبِينَ، وَجُودُكَ مُبَاحٌ لِلسَّائِلِينَ،
baabuka maf-tooh'ul-lilr-raaghibeen wa jooduka mubaah'ul-lils-saaa-ileen
24.Your door is open to the beseechers, Your munificence free to the askers,

وَإغاثَتُكَ قَرِيبَةٌ مِنَ الْمُسْتَغِيْثِينَ،
wa ighaathatuka qareebatum-minal-mus-tagheetheen
25.Your help near to the help-seekers!

لاَ يَخِيبُ مِنْـكَ الآمِلُونَ، وَلاَ يَيْأَسُ مِنْ عَطَائِكَ الْمُتَعَرِّضُونَ،
laa yakheebu minkal-aaamiloon wa laa yay-asu min a't'aaa-ikal-mutaa'r-riz''oon
26.The expectant are not disappointed by You, those who present themselves despair not of Your bestowal,

وَلا يَشْقَى بِنَقْمَتِكَ الْمُسْتَغْفِرُونَ.
wa laa yash-qaa binaqimatikal-mus-tagh-firoon
27.the forgiveness-seekers become not wretched through Your vengeance!

رِزْقُكَ مَبْسُوطٌ لِمَنْ عَصَاكَ،
riz-quka mab-soot'ul-liman a's'aak
28.Your provision is spread among those who disobey You,

وَحِلْمُكَ مُعْتَـرِضٌ لِمَنْ نَاوَاكَ،
wa h'il-muka mua'-tariz''ul-liman-naawaaka
29.Your clemency presents itself to those hostile toward You,

عَادَتُكَ الإحْسَـانُ إلَى الْمُسِيئينَ،
a'adatukal-ih'-saanu ilaal-musee-een
30.Your habit is beneficence toward the evildoers,

وَسُنَّتُـكَ الإبْقَاءُ عَلَى الْمُعْتَدِينَ
wa sun-natukal-ib-qaaa-u a'laal-mua'-tadeen
31.and Your wont is to spare the transgressors,

حَتَّى لَقَدْ غَرَّتْهُمْ أَنَاتُكَ عَنِ الرُّجُوعِ،
h'at-taa laqad- ghar-rat-hum anaatuka a'nir-rujooa'-
32.so much so that Your lack of haste deludes them from returning,

وَصَدَّهُمْ إمْهَالُكَ عَن النُّزُوعِ.
wa s'ad-dahum im-haaluka a'nin-nuzooa'
33.and Your disregard bars them from desisting!

وَإنَّمَا تَأَنَّيْتَ بهمْ لِيَفِيئُوا إلَى أَمْرِكَ،
wa in-namaa taan-nay-ta bihim leeafee-oo ilaaa am-rik
34.You actest without haste toward them so that they will come back to Your command

وَأَمْهَلْتَهُمْ ثِقَةً بِدَوَامِ مُلْكِكَ،
wa am-hal-tahum thiqatam-bidawaami mul-kik
35.and You disregardest them confident in the permanence of Your kingdom,

فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ السَّعَادَةِ خَتَمْتَ لَهُ بِهَا،
faman kaana min ah-lis-saa'adati khatam-ta lahoo bihaa
36.so You sealest him who is worthy of it with felicity,

وَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّقَاوَةِ خَذَلْتَهُ لَهَا،
wa man kaana min ah-lish-shaqaawati khad'al-tahoo lahaa
37.and You abandonest him who is worthy of it to wretchedness!

كُلُّهُمْ صَائِرُونَ إلَى حُكْمِكَ وَأُمُورُهُمْ آئِلَةٌ إلَى أَمْـرِكَ،
kul-luhum s'aaa-iroona ilaa h'uk-mik wa umooruhum aaa-ilatun ilaaa am-rik
38.All of them come home to Your decree, their affairs revert to Your command;

لَمْ يَهِنْ عَلَى طُـولِ مُـدَّتِهِمْ سُلْطَانُـكَ
lam yahin a'laa t'ooli mud-datihim sul-t'aanuk
39.Your authority grows not feeble through their drawn out term,

وَلَمْ يَـدْحَضْ لِتَـرْكِ مُعَاجَلَتِهِمْ بُرْهَانُكَ.
wa lam yud-h'az'' litar-ki mua'ajalatihim bur-haanuk
40.Your proof is not refuted by the failure to hurry after them.

حُجَّتُكَ قَائِمَةٌ لاَ تُدْحَضُ،
h'uj-jatuka qaaa-imatul-laa tud-h'az''
41.Your argument is established, never refuted,

وَسُلْطَانُكَ ثَابِتٌ لا يَزُولُ،
wa sul-t'aanuka thaabitul-laa yazool
42.Your authority fixed, never removed.

فَالْوَيْلُ الدَّائِمُ لِمَنْ جَنَحَ عَنْكَ،
fal-way-lud-daaa-imu liman janah'a a'nk
43.Permanent woe belongs to him who inclines away from You,

وَالْخَيْبَةُ الْخَاذِلَةُ لِمَنْ خَابَ مِنْكَ،
wal-khay-batu alkhaad'ilatu liman khaaba mink
44.forsaking disappointment to him who is disappointed by You,

وَالشَّقاءُ الاشْقَى لِمَنِ اغْتَرَّ بِكَ.
wash-shaqaaa-ul-ash-qaa limani agh-tar-ra bik
45.and the most wretched wretchedness to him who is deluded about You!

مَا أكْثَرَ تَصَرُّفَهُ فِي عَذَابِكَ،
maaa ak-thara tas'ar-rufahoo fee a'd'aabika?
46.How much he will move about in Your chastisement!

وَمَا أَطْوَلَ تَرَدُّدَهُ فِيْ عِقَابِكَ،
wa maaa at'-wala tarad-dudahoo fee i'qaabika?
47.How long he will frequent Your punishment!

وَمَا أَبْعَدَ غَايَتَهُ مِنَ الْفَرَجِ،
wa maaa ab-a'da ghaayatahoo minal-faraji?
48.How far his utmost end from relief!

وَمَا أَقْنَطَهُ مِنْ سُهُولَةِ الْمَخْرَجِ
wa maaa aq-nat'ahoo min suhoolatil-makh-raji?
49.How he will despair of an easy exit!

عَدْلاً مِنْ قَضَائِكَ لاَ تَجُورُ فِيهِ،
a'd-lam-min qaz''aaa-ika laa tajooru feeh
50.[All of this] as justice from Your decree (Thou art not unjust in it!),

وَإنْصَافاً مِنْ حُكْمِكَ لاَ تَحِيفُ عَلَيْهِ،
wa ins'aafam-min h'uk-mika laa tah'eefu a'lay-h
51.and equity from Your judgement (Thou dost not act wrongfully against him!).

فَقَدْ ظَاهَرْتَ الْحُجَجَ، وَأَبْلَيْتَ الاعْذَارَ،
faqad z'aahar-tal-h'ujaj wa ab-lay-tal-aa'-d'aar
52.You supported the arguments, tested the excuses,

وَقَـدْ تَقَدَّمْتَ بِـالْوَعِيْـدِ وَتَلَطَّفْتَ فِي التَّرْغِيْبِ،
wa qad t-taqad-dam-ta bil-wae'ed wa talat'-t'af-ta fit-tar-gheeb
53.began with threats, showed gentleness with encouragement,

وَضَرَبْتَ الامْثَالَ، وَأَطَلْتَ الاِمْهَالَ،
wa z''arab-tal-am-thaal wa at'al-tal-im-haal
54.struck similitudes, made long the respite,

وَأَخَّرْتَ وَأَنْتَ مُسْتَطِيعٌ لِلْمُعَاجَلَةِ،
wa akh-khar-ta wa anta mus-tat'eeu'l-lil-mua'ajalah
55.delayed, while You art able to hurry,

وَتَأَنَّيْتَ وَأَنْتَ مَليءٌ بِالْمُبَادَرَةِ،
wa taan-nay-ta wa anta malee-um-bil-mubaadarah
56.and acted without haste, while You art full of quick accomplishment!

لَمْ تَكُنْ أَنَاتُكَ عَجْزاً، وَلا إمْهَالُكَ وَهْناً،
lam takun anaatuka a'j-zaa wa laaa im-haaluka wah-naa
57.Not because of incapacity is Your slowness, feebleness Your giving respite,

وَلاَ إمْسَاكُكَ غَفْلَةً، وَلاَ انْتِظَارُكَ مُدَارَاةً،
wa laaa im-saakuka ghaf-lah wa laa antiz'aaruka mudaaraah
58.heedlessness Your showing restraint, dissemblance Your waiting!

بَلْ لِتَكُونَ حُجَّتُكَ أَبْلَغَ، وَكَرَمُكَ أكمَلَ،
bal-litakoona h'uj-jatuka ab-lagh wa karamuka ak-mal
59.But that Your argument be more conclusive, Your generosity more perfect,

وَإحْسَانُكَ أَوْفَى وَنِعْمَتُكَ أَتَمَّ،
wa ih'-saanuka aw-faa wa nia'-matuka atam
60.Your beneficence more exhaustive, Your favour more complete!

كُلُّ ذلِكَ كَانَ وَلَمْ تَزَلْ، وَهُوَ كائِنٌ وَلاَ تَزَالُ ،
kul-lu d'alika kaana wa lam tazal wa huwa kaaa-inoo-wa laa tazaal
61.All of this has been and always was, is and ever will be.

حُجَّتُكَ أَجَلُّ مِنْ أَنْ توصَفَ بِكُلِّهَا،
h'uj-jatuka ajal-lu min an toos'afa bikul-lihaa
62.Your argument is greater than that its totality be described,

وَمَجْدُكَ أَرْفَـعُ مِنْ أَنْ يُحَدَّ بِكُنْهِهِ،
wa maj-duka ar-fau' min ay-yuh'ad-da bikun-hih
63.Your glory more elevated than that it be limited in its core,

وَنِعْمَتُكَ أكْثَرُ مِنْ أَنْ تُحْصَى بِأَسْرِهَا،
wa nia'-matuka ak-tharu min an tuh'-s'aa bi s-rihaa
64.Your favour more abundant than that its entirety be counted,

وَإحْسَانُكَ أكْثَرُ مِنْ أَنْ تُشْكَرَ عَلَى أَقَلِّهِ،
wa ih'-saanuka ak-tharu min an tush-kara a'laaa aqal-lih
65.Your beneficence more abundant than that thanks be given for its least amount!

وَقَدْ قَصَّرَ بِيَ السُّكُوتُ عَنْ تَحْمِيدِكَ،
wa qad qas'-s'ara beeas-sukootu a'n tah'-meedik
66.Speechlessness has made me fall short of praising You,

وَفَهَّهَنِي الإمْسَاكُ عَنْ تَمْجيدِكَ،
wa fah-hahaneel-im-saaku a'n tam-jeedik
67.restraint has made me powerless to glorify You,

وَقُصَارَايَ الإقْرَارُ بِالْحُسُورِ
wa qus'aaraayal-iq-raaru bil-h'usoori
68.and the most I can do is admit to inability,

لاَ رَغْبَةً ـ يا إلهِي ـ بَلْ عَجْزاً،
laa ragh-bataa-yaaa ilaahee bal a'j-zaa
69.not out of desire, my God, but out of incapacity.

فَهَا أَنَا ذَا أَؤُمُّكَ بِالْوِفَادَةِ، وَأَسأَلُكَ حُسْنَ الرِّفَادَةِ،
fahaaa ana d'aa aw-um-muka bil-wifaadah wa as-aluka h'us-nar-rifaadah
70.So here I am: I repair to You by coming forward, and I ask from You good support

فَصلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ وَاسْمَعْ نَجْوَايَ،
fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih was-maa' naj-waay
71.So bless Muhammad and his Household, hear my whispered words,

وَاسْتَجِبْ دُعَائِي وَلاَ تَخْتِمْ يَوْمِيَ بِخَيْبَتِي،
was-tajib dua'aa-ee wa laa takh-tim yaw-mee bikhay-batee
72.grant my supplication, seal not my day with disappointment,

وَلاَ تَجْبَهْنِي بِالرَّدِّ فِي مَسْأَلَتِي،
wa laa taj-bah-nee bir-rad-di fee mas-alatee
73.slap not my brow by rejecting my request,

وَأكْرِمْ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ مُنْصَرَفِي وَإلَيْكَ مُنْقَلَبِي،
wa ak-rim min i'ndika muns'arafee wa ilay-ka munqalabee
74.and make noble my coming from You and my going back to You!

إنَّكَ غَيْرُ ضَائِق بِمَا تُرِيْدُ وَلاَ عَاجِزٍ عَمَّا تُسْأَلُ،
in-naka ghay-ru z''aaa-iqim-bimaa tureed wa laa a'ajizin a'm-maa tus-al
75.Surely You art not constrained by what You desirest, nor incapable of what You art asked!

وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيْرٌ،
wa anta a'laa kul-li shay-in qadeer
76.You art powerful over everything,

وَلا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إلاَّ بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ.
wa laa h'aw-la wa laa qoo-wata il-laa bil-lahil-a'lee-yil-a'z'eem
77.and there is no force and no strength save in God, the All-high, the All-mighty!
