Supplication 45 Farewell to the month of Ramadhan
Sahifa Sajjadia
ددُعَاؤُهُ لِوَدَاعِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ
Imam Zainul Abideen(as) son of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as)'s supplication - 45 from Sahifa Sajjadiyah (Psalms of Islam) Farewell to the month of Ramadhan

This supplication is one of the masterpieces of the Ṣaḥīfah al-Sajjādiyyah. It is a supplication bidding adieu to the blessed month of fasting and self-reformation, a month that is beloved by the friends of Allah. As such, the supplication is read with the sorrow and sadness, just as one would grieve when saying goodbye to an intimate companion or a near relative leaving for a year-long journey.

59.Hence You hast named supplicating You 'worship' and refraining from it 'waxing proud',

وَتَوَعَّدْتَ عَلَى تَرْكِهِ دُخُولَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ،
wa tawaa'-a't-ta a'laa tar-kihee dukhoola jahan-nama daakhireen

wa maa baqee lil-h'am-di laf-z'un tuh'-madu bihee wa maa'-nana yans'arifu ilay-h
71.and as long as there remains for praising words by which You may be praised and meanings which may be spent in praise!

يَا مَنْ تَحَمَّدَ إِلَى عِبَادِهِ بِالْإِحْسَانِ وَالْفَضْلِ،
yaa man tah'am-mada ilaa i'baadihee bil-ih'-saani wal-faz''-li
72.O He who shows Himself praiseworthy to His servants through beneficence and bounty,
