Dua Adeelah عديلا

This dua'a contains the articles of faith. Every faithful must recite this dua'a regularly to drive away Shaytan, and to remain firm in the true faith. A dying faithful, in the last moments of life, should recite this dua'a, or , if it is not possible, ask someone else to read it aloud for him or her, so as not to be misled by doubts which may come into the mind, or not to be depressed emotionally, because these forces together with the misleading suggestions of Shaytan, more often than not, in the last hour of life, make man die a death of an infidel or hypocrite. The Supplication for saving from deviation.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
bismi allahi alrrahmani alrrahimi
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
﴿شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ انَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ
shahida allahu annahu la ilaha illa huwa
“Allah bears witness that there is no god but He,
وَٱلْمَلائِكَةُ وَاولُوٱ ٱلْعِلْمِ
walmala'ikatu wa ulu al`ilmi
and (so do) the angels and those possessed of knowledge,
قَائِماً بِالْقِسْطِ
qa'iman bilqisti
maintaining His creation with justice;
لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
la ilaha illa huwa al`azizu alhakimu
there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise.
إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلإِسْلاَمُ﴾
inna alddina `inda allahi al-islamu
Surely, the (true) religion with Allah is Islam.”
وَانَا ٱلْعَبْدُ ٱلضَّعِيفُ ٱلْمُذْنِبُ
wa ana al`abdu aldda`ifu almudhnibu
I am the slave—feeble, sinful,
ٱلْعَاصِي ٱلْمُحْتَاجُ ٱلْحَقِيرُ
al`asi almuhtaju alhaqiru
disobedient, needy, and ignoble—
اشْهَدُ لِمُنْعِمِي وَخَاِلقِي
ash-hadu limun`imi wa khaliqi
I testify to my Benefactor, Creator,
وَرَازِقِي وَمُكْرِمِي
wa raziqi wa mukrimi
Provider of me with my sustenance, and my Honorer,
كَمَا شَهِدَ لِذَاتِهِ
kama shahida lidhatihi
as same as He has testified to Himself
وَشَهِدَتْ لَهُ ٱلْمَلائِكَةُ
wa shahidat lahu almala'ikatu
and the angels have testified to Him
وَاولُوٱ ٱلْعِلْمِ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ
wa ulu al`ilmi min `ibadihi
so have those possessed with knowledge amongst His servants
بِانَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ
bi-annahu la ilaha illa huwa
that there is no god save Him
ذُو ٱلنِّعَمِ وَٱلإِحْسَانِ
dhu alnni`ami wal-ihsani
the Lord of bounties, favors,
وَٱلْكَرَمِ وَٱلاِمْتِنَانِ
walkarami wal-imtinani
generosity, and kindness.
قَادِرٌ ازَلِيٌّ
qadirun azaliyyun
He is Omnipotent, Eternal,
عَالِمٌ ابَدِيٌّ
`alimun abadiyyun
All-knowing, Everlasting,
حَيٌّ احَدِيٌّ
hayyun ahadiyyun
Ever-living, One and Only,
مَوْجُودٌ سَرْمَدِيٌّ
mawjudun sarmadiyyun
Self-existent, Endless,
سَمِيعٌ بَصِيرٌ
sami`un basirun
All-hearing, All-Seeing,
مُرِيدٌ كَارِهٌ
muridun karihun
Willing, Discriminating,
مُدْرِكٌ صَمَدِيٌّ
mudrikun samadiyyun
All-aware, and eternally Besought of all.
يَسْتَحِقُّ هٰذِهِ ٱلصِّفَاتُ
yastahiqqu hadhihi alssifati
He is worthy of all these attributes,
وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ مَا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ فِي عِزِّ صِفَاتِهِ
wa huwa `ala ma huwa `alayhi fi `izzi sifatihi
and He, characterized by all these sublime attributes,
كَانَ قَوْيّاً قَبْلَ وُجُودِ ٱلْقُدْرَةِ وَٱلْقُوَّةِ
kana qawiyyan qabla wujudi alqudrati walquwwati
was All-powerful prior to the existence of might and power,
وَكَانَ عَلِيماً قَبْلَ إِيجَادِ ٱلْعِلْمِ وَٱلْعِلَّةِ
wa kana `aliman qabla ijadi al`ilmi wal`illati
and All-knowing before the origination of knowledge and reason.
لَمْ يَزَلْ سُلْطَاناً إِذْ لاَ مَمْلَكَةَ وَلاَ مَالَ
lam yazal sultanan idh la mamlakata wa la mala
He has been always Authority when there was neither sovereignty nor wealth.
وَلَمْ يَزَلْ سُبْحَاناً عَلَىٰ جَمِيعِ ٱلاحْوَاِل
wa lam yazal subhanan `ala jami`i al-ahwali
He has been always Glorious under all circumstances.
وُجُودُهُ قَبْلَ ٱلْقَبْلِ فِي ازَلِ ٱلآزَاِل
wujuduhu qabla alqabli fi azali al-azali
His Being is before all precedence in the pre-eternity of sempiternity.
وَبَقَاؤُهُ بَعْدَ ٱلْبَعْدِ مِنْ غَيْرِ ٱنتِقَالٍ وَلاَ زَوَالٍ
wa baqa'uhu ba`da alba`di min ghayri intiqalin wa la zawalin
His Remaining will be after all endings without any extinction or disappearance.
غَنِيٌّ فِي ٱلاوَّلِ وَٱلآخِرِ
ghaniyyun fi al-awwali wal-akhiri
He is self-Sufficient at the beginning and at the end
مُسْتَغْنٍ فِي ٱلْبَاطِنِ وَٱلظَّاهِرِ
mustaghnin fi albatini walzzahiri
and All-independent inwardly and outwardly.
لاَ جَوْرَ فِي قَضِيَّتِهِ
la jawra fi qadiyyatihi
There is no injustice in His judgment,
وَلاَ مَيْلَ فِي مَشِيئَتِهِ
wa la mayla fi mashi'atihi
nor is there unfairness in His management,
وَلاَ ظُلْمَ فِي تَقْدِيرِهِ
wa la zulma fi taqdirihi
nor is there unfairness in His administration,
وَلاَ مَهْرَبَ مِنْ حُكُومَتِهِ
wa la mahraba min hukumatihi
nor is there any escape from His sovereignty,
وَلاَ مَلْجَا مِنْ سَطَوَاتِهِ
wa la malja'a min satawatihi
nor is there any shelter against His firm grip,
وَلاَ مَنجىٰ مِنْ نَقِمَاتِهِ
wa la manjan min naqimatihi
nor is there any salvation from His punishment.
سَبَقَتْ رَحْمَتُهُ غَضَبَهُ
sabaqat rahmatuhu ghadabahu
His mercy overtakes His Wrath.
وَلاَ يَفُوتُهُ احَدٌ إِذَا طَلَبَهُ
wa la yafutuhu ahadun idha talabahu
None can escape Him when He summons.
ازَاحَ ٱلْعِلَلَ فِي ٱلتَّكْلِيفِ
azaha al`ilala fi alttaklifi
He covers all logics for His obligatory decrees,
وَسَوَّىٰ ٱلتَّوْفِيقَ بَيْنَ ٱلضَّعِيفِ وَٱلشَّرِيفِ
wa sawwa alttawfiqa bayna aldda`ifi walshsharifi
treats absolutely equally the weak and the noble,
مَكَّنَ ادَاءَ ٱلْمَامُورِ
makkana ada'a alma'muri
makes capable to carry out His commands,
وَسَهَّلَ سَبِيلَ ٱجْتِنَابِ ٱلْمَحْظُورِ
wa sahhala sabila ijtinabi almahzuri
and makes easy to abstain from His prohibitions.
لَمْ يُكَلِّفِ ٱلطَّاعَةَ إِلاَّ دُونَ ٱلْوُسْعِ وَٱلطَّاقَةِ
lam yukallif altta`ata illa duna alwus`i walttaqati
He does not make obedience a burden but according to one's real capacity.
سُبْحَانَهُ مَا ابْيَنَ كَرَمَهُ
subhanahu ma abyana karamahu
All glory be to Him! How manifest His generosity is!
وَاعْلَىٰ شَانَهُ
wa a`la sha'nahu
How sublime His standing is!
سُبْحَانَهُ مَا اجَلَّ نَيلَهُ
 subhanahu ma ajalla naylahu
All glory be to Him! How magnificent to seek Him is!
وَاعْظَمَ إِحْسَانَهُ
wa a`zama ihsanahu
How splendid His favors are!
بَعَثَ ٱلانْبِيَاءَ لِيُبَيِّنَ عَدْلَهُ
ba`atha al-anbiya'a liyubayyina `adlahu
He has sent the Prophets in order to show His justice,
وَنَصَبَ ٱلاوْصِيَاءَ لِيُظْهِرَ طَوْلَهُ وَفَضْلَهُ
wa nasaba al-awsya'a liyuzhira tawlahu wa fadlahu
and appointed successors [for the Prophets] in order to make known His munificence and grace.
وَجَعَلَنَا مِنْ امَّةِ سَيِّدِ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ
wa ja`alana min ummati sayyidi al-anbya'i
He has made us of the community of the Chief of Prophets,
وَخَيْرِ ٱلاوْلِيَاءِ
wa khayri al-awliya'i
the most favorable of His saints,
وَافْضَلِ ٱلاصْفِيَاءِ
wa afdali al-asfiya'i
the best of His elite ones,
وَاعْلىٰ ٱلازْكِيَاءِ
wa a`la al-azkiya'i
and the most sublime of the pure ones;
مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
muhammadin salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi wa sallama
that is Muhammad, may Allah send blessings and benedictions upon him and his Household.
آمَنَّا بِهِ وَبِمَا دَعَانَا إِلَيْهِ
amanna bihi wa bima da`ana ilayhi
We thus believe in him, in all that to which he has called us,
وَبِٱلْقُرْآنِ ٱلَّذِي انْزَلَهُ عَلَيْهِ
wa bilqur'ani alladhi anzalahu `alayhi
in the Qur'an which He revealed to him,
وَبِوَصِيِّهِ ٱلَّذِي نَصَبَهُ يَوْمَ ٱلْغَدِيرِ
wa biwasiyyihi alladhi nasabahu yawma alghadiri
and in his Successor whom he appointed on the Ghadir Day
وَاشَارَ إِلَيْهِ بِقَوْلِهِ: "هٰذَا عَلِيٌّ"
wa ashara ilayhi biqawlihi hadha `aliyyun
and to whom he referred by saying, “This is `Ali.”
وَاشْهَدُ انَّ ٱلائِمَّةَ ٱلابْرَارَ
wa ash-hadu anna al-a'immata al-abrara
I also bear witness that the Imams—the pious
وَٱلْخُلَفَاءَ ٱلاخْيَارَ
walkhulafa'a al-akhyara
and benign vicegerents [of Allah]
بَعْدَ ٱلرَّسُولِ ٱلْمُخْتَارِ
ba`da alrrasuli almukhtari
after the Chosen Prophet are:
عَلِيٌّ قَامِعُ ٱلْكُفَّارِ
`aliyyun qami`u alkuffari
`Ali, the subduer of the infidels.
وَمِنْ بَعْدِهِ سَيِّدُ اوْلاَدِهِ ٱلْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ
wa min ba`dihi sayyidu awladihi alhasanu ibnu `aliyyin
Following him is the chief of his sons, al-Hasan, the son of `Ali.
ثُمَّ اخُوهُ ٱلسِّبْطُ ٱلتَّابِعُ لِمَرْضَاةِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْحُسَيْنُ
thumma akhuhu alssibtu alttabi`u limardati allahi alhusaynu
Then comes his brother, the grandson and seeker of Allah’s pleasure; al-Husayn.
ثُمَّ ٱلْعَابِدُ عَلِيٌّ
thumma al`abidu `aliyyun
Then comes `Ali, the [distinctive] worshipper [of Allah].
ثُمَّ ٱلْبَاقِرُ مُحَمَّدٌ
thumma albaqiru muhammadun
Then comes the Cleaver (of knowledge), Muhammad.
ثُمَّ ٱلصَّادِقُ جَعْفَرٌ
thumma alssadiqu ja`farun
Then comes the veracious Ja`far.
ثُمَّ ٱلْكَاظِمُ مُوسَىٰ
thumma alkazimu musa
Then comes the suppressor of rage, Musa.
ثُمَّ ٱلرِّضَا عَلِيٌّ
thumma alrrida `aliyyun
Then comes the pleased, `Ali.
ثُمَّ ٱلتَّقِيُّ مُحَمَّدٌ
thumma alttaqiyyu muhammadun
Then comes the pious, Muhammad.
ثُمَّ ٱلنَّقِيُّ عَلِّيٌّ
thumma alnnaqiyyu `aliyyun
Then comes the refined, `Ali.
ثُمَّ ٱلزَّكِيُّ ٱلْعَسْكَرِيُّ ٱلْحَسَنُ
thumma alzzakiyyu al`askariyyu alhasanu
Then comes the pure resident of `Askar, al-Hasan.
ثُمَّ ٱلْحُجَّةُ ٱلْخَلَفُ ٱلْقَائِمُ
thumma alhujjatu alkhalafu alqa'imu
Then comes the Argument, Successor, Assumer,
ٱلْمُنْتَظَرُ ٱلْمَهْدِيُّ ٱلْمُرْجَىٰ
almuntazaru almahdiyyu almurja
Awaited, Well-guided, and Expected
ٱلَّذِي بِبَقَائِهِ بَقِيَتِ ٱلدُّنْيَا
alladhi bibaqa'ihi baqiyat alddunya
on account of whose existence, this world is kept in existence,
وَبِيُمْنِهِ رُزِقَ ٱلْوَرَىٰ
wa biyumnihi ruziqa alwara
on account of whose blessing, the created beings are provided sustenance,
وَبِوُجُودِهِ ثَبَتَتِ ٱلارْضُ وَٱلسَّمَاءُ
wa biwujudihi thabatat al-ardu walssama'u
and on account of whose existence, the earth and the sky are kept in firmness.
وَبِهِ يَمْلَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلارْضَ قِسْطاً وَعَدْلاً
wa bihi yamla'u allahu al-arda qistan wa `adlan
Through him, Allah shall fill the earth with equity and justice
بَعْدَ مَا مُلِئَتْ ظُلْماً وَجَوْراً
ba`dama muli'at zulman wa jawran
after it will be filled with inequity and injustice.
وَاشْهَدُ انَّ اقْوَالَهُمْ حُجَّةً
wa ash-hadu anna aqwalahum hujjatun
I also bear witness that their words are decisive arguments,
وَٱمْتِثَالَهُمْ فَرِيضَةً
wa imtithalahum faridatun
to comply with their orders is obligatory,
وَطَاعَتَهُم مَفْرُوضَةً
wa ta`atahum mafrudatun
the obedience to them is commissioned [by Allah],
وَمَوَدَّتَهُمْ لازِمَةً مَقْضِيَّةً
wa mawaddatahum lazimatun maqdiyyatun
to love them is necessary and pre-ordained,
وَٱلاِقْتِدَاءُ بِهِم مُنجِيَةً
wal-iqtida'a bihim munjiyatun
and to pattern after them will definitely achieve salvation,
وَمُخَالَفَتَهُم مُرْدِيَةً
wa mukhalafatahum murdiyatun
but to oppose them will definitely bring about destruction.
وَهُمْ سَادَاتُ اهْلِ ٱلْجَنَّةِ اجْمَعِينَ
wa hum sadatu ahli aljannati ajma`ina
They are, moreover, the chiefs of all the inhabitants of Paradise,
وَشُفَعَاءُ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
wa shufa`a'u yawmi alddini
the interceders on the Judgment Day,
وَائِمَّةُ اهْلِ ٱلارْضِ عَلىٰ ٱلْيَقِينِ
wa a'immatu ahli al-ardi `ala alyaqini
and, undoubtedly, the leaders of the inhabitants of the earth,
وَافْضَلُ ٱلاوْصِيَاءِ ٱلْمَرْضِيِّينَ
wa afdalu al-awsya’i almardiyyina
and the best of the satisfied Successors [of the Prophets].
وَاشْهَدُ انَّ ٱلْمَوْتَ حَقٌّ
wa ash-hadu anna almawta haqqun
I also bear witness that death is certain,
وَمُسَاءَلَةَ مُنْكَرٍ وَنَكِيرٍ فِي ٱلْقَبْرِ حَقٌّ
wa musa'alata alqabri haqqun
the interrogation by Munkar and Nakir in the grave is certain,
وَٱلْبَعْثَ حَقٌّ
walba`tha haqqun
the raising of the dead is certain,
وَٱلنُّشُورَ حَقٌّ
walnnushura haqqun
the final assemblage is certain,
وَٱلصِّرَاطَ حَقٌّ
walssirata haqqun
the Discriminating Bridge is certain,
وَٱلْمِيزَانَ حَقٌّ
walmizana haqqun
the Scales [of deeds] is certain,
وَٱلْحِسَابَ حَقٌّ
walhisaba haqqun
the calling into account is certain,
وَٱلْكِتَابَ حَقٌّ
walkitaba haqqun
the record book [of deeds] is certain,
وَٱلْجَنَّةَ حَقٌّ
waljannata haqqun
Paradise is certain,
وَٱلنَّارَ حَقٌّ
walnnara haqqun
Hellfire is certain,
وَانَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهَا
wa anna alssa`ata atiyatun la rayba fiha
the Hour [of resurrection] will certainly come, without any dispute,
وَانَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِي ٱلْقُبُورِ
wa anna allaha yab`athu man fi alquburi
and Allah shall raise up those who are in graves.
اللَّهُمَّ فَضْلُكَ رَجَائِي
allahumma fadluka raja’i
O Allah, in Your favor do I put my hope,
وَكَرَمُكَ وَرَحْمَتُكَ امَلِي
wa karamuka wa rahmatuka amali
Your generosity and mercy do I expect confidently,
لاَ عَمَلَ لِي اسْتَحِقُّ بِهِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ
la `amala li astahiqqu bihi aljannata
I have no single deed by which I deserve Paradise,
وَلاَ طَاعَةَ لِي اسْتَوْجِبُ بِهَا ٱلرِّضْوَانَ
wa la ta`ata li astawjibu biha alrridwana
nor do I have any act of obedience [to You] due to which I deserve Your pleasure;
إِلاَّ انِّي ٱعْتَقَدتُّ تَوْحِيدَكَ وَعَدْلَكَ
illa anni i`taqadtu tawhidaka wa `adlaka
except that I believe in Your Oneness and Your Justice
وَٱرْتَجَيْتُ إِحْسَانَكَ وَفَضْلَكَ
wartajaytu ihsanaka wa fadlaka
and I hope for Your benevolence and Your favor.
وَتَشَفَّعْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِٱلنَّبِيِّ وَآلِهِ مِنْ احِبَّتِكَ
wa tashaffa`tu ilayka bilnnabiyyi wa alihi min ahibbatika
I thus seek the Prophet and his Household, Your most-beloved ones, to intercede for me before You;
وَانتَ اكْرَمُ ٱلاكْرَمِينَ
wa anta akramu al-akramina
and You are verily the most Generous of all those who treat generously
وَارْحَمُ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
wa arhamu alrrahimina
and the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.
وَصَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ
wa salla allahu `ala nabiyyina muhammadin
May Allah send blessings to Our Prophet, Muhammad
وَآلِهِ اجْمَعْينَ
wa alihi ajma`ina
and upon all of his Household,
ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ
alttayyibina alttahirina
the pure and immaculate,
وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيماً كَثِيراً كَثِيراً
wa sallama tasliman kathiran kathiran
and send upon them many many benedictions.
وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahi al`aliyyi al`azimi
There is no might and no power except with Allah, the All-high, the All-great.
اللَّهُمَّ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
allahumma ya arhama alrrahimina
O Allah! O most Merciful of all those who show mercy,
إِنِّي اوْدَعْتُكَ يَقِينِي هٰذَا وَثَبَاتَ دِينِي
inni awda`tuka yaqini hadha wa thabata dini
I am depositing with You this faith of mine and my firmness on this belief;
وَانتَ خَيْرُ مُسْتَوْدَعٍ
wa anta khayru mustawda`in
and You are the ever-best of all those who keep deposits.
وَقَدْ امَرْتَنَا بِحِفْظِ ٱلْوَدَائِعِ
wa qad amartana bihifzi alwada'i`i
You have commanded us to keep safe deposits that are put with us;
فَرُدَّهُ عَلَيَّ وَقْتَ حُضُورِ مَوْتِي
faruddahu `alayya waqta huduri mawti
so, (please) keep for me this deposit to give it back to me at the time of my death
وَعِنْدَ مُسَاءَلَةِ مُنْكَرٍ وَنَكِيرٍ
wa `inda musa'alati munkarin wa nakirin
and at the time of the interrogation of Munkar and Nakir;
بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
birahmatika ya arhama alrrahimina
[I beseech You] in the name of Your mercy; O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ ٱلعَدِيلَةِ عِنْدَ ٱلْمَوْتِ
allahumma inni a`udhu bika mina al`adilati `inda almawti
O Allah, I seek Your protection against deviation at the hour of death.

Deviation at the hour of death stands for shifting from the right to the wrong at the hour of death. To explain, Satan attends at the hour of death in order to deceive the moribund and suggest evil to him in order to make him doubt about his religion. If Satan succeeds, he will pull out faith from the heart of the dying person. To avoid that, many supplications have comprised statements of seeking Almighty Allah’s protection against deviation at death. Fakhr al-Muhaqqiqin says, “To escape deviation at the hour of death, one should bethink the proofs of creed in which he believes, as well as the five principles of the religion with all of their irrefutable evidences, with absolute sincerity and purity and should then trust them with Almighty Allah beseeching Him for giving them back at the hour of dying. This can be done by saying the following prayer:

اللَّهُمَّ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
allahumma ya arhama alrrahimina
O Allah, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy,
إِنِّي اوْدَعْتُكَ يَقِينِي هٰذَا وَثَبَاتَ دِينِي
inni qad awda`tuka yaqini hadha wa thabata dini
I am depositing with You this faith of mine and my firmness on this belief;
وَانتَ خَيْرُ مُسْتَوْدَعٍ
wa anta khayru mustawda`in
and You are the ever-best of all those who keep deposits.
وَقَدْ امَرْتَنَا بِحِفْظِ ٱلْوَدَائِعِ
wa qad amartana bihifzi alwada'i`i
You have commanded us to keep safe deposits that are put with us;
فَرُدَّهُ عَلَيَّ وَقْتَ حُضُورِ مَوْتِي
faruddahu `alayya waqta huduri mawti
so, (please) keep for me this deposit to give it back to me at the time of my death
