O Allah, I beseech You with Your Name;

alla-hoomma inni as'aloka, be-lsmeka

اَللّـهُمَّ إِنّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ

the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Benign

bismilla hir rahma nir rahim.

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحيمِ

O Lord of Majesty and Generosity;

ya zal jalale wal ikrame.

يا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالإِكرَامِ

O Living; O Self-Subsisting,

ya hayyo. ya qayyoomo

يا حَيُّ يا قَيُّومُ

O Ever-living, there is no God but You.

ya hayyo laa 1iiaha ilia anta

يا حَيُّ لا إِلـٰهَ إِلاّ أَنْتَ،

O You that are "He"

ya howa.

يا هُوَ

of whom no one knows what "He" is,

ya man la ya’a.lamo ma howa.

يا مَنْ لا يَعْلَمُ ما هُوَ

nor how "He" is,

wa la kaifa howa.

وَلا كَيْفَ هُوَ

nor where "He" is, except "He."

wa la aina howa wa la haitho howa ilia howa.

وَلا أَيْنَ هُوَ وَلا حَيْثُ هُوَ إِلاّ هُوَ،

O Lord of the Great Kingdom and Supremacy.

ya zal-moolke wal-malakoote

يا ذَا المُلْكِ وَالْمَلَكوُتِ

O Lord of Honour and Omnipotence:

ya zal izzate wal-jabaroote,

يا ذَا الْعِزَّةِ وَالْجَبَروُتِ،

O Sovereign Lord, O Holy One!

ya maleko. ya qooddooso

يا مَلِكُ يا قُدُّوسُ،

O Peace; O Keeper of Faith;

ya salamo. ya mo'meno,

يا سَلامُ يا مُؤْمِنُ

O Guardian O Revered One;

ya mohaimeno, ya ' azizo,

يا مُهَيْمِنُ يا عَزيزُ

O Compeller; O Superb.

ya jabbaro ya motakabbero,

يا جَبّارُ يا مُتَكَبّـِرُ

O Creator, O Maker of all things from nothing;

ya khaliqo ya baari'o

يا خالِقُ يا بارِئُ

O Artist; O Beneficent;

ya mosowwero, ya mofeedo

يا مُصَوّ ِر يا مُفيدُ

O Administrator; O Severe (in wrath);

ya modabbiro, ya shadeedo

يا مُدَبّـِرُ يا شَديدُ

O Inventor; O Restorer;

ya mobdio ya mo'eedo

يا مُبْدِئُ يا مُعيدُ

O Originator; O Most Loving:

ya mobeedo ya wadoodo,

يا مُبيدُ يا وَدُودُ

O Praised; O Adored.

ya mahmoodo ya ma'boodo,

يا مَحْمُودُ يا مَعْبوُدُ

O You that are distant yet near;

ya ba'eedo ya qaareebo

يا بَعيدُ يا قَريبُ

O Answerer of prayer; O Observer;

ya mojeebo ya raqeebo

يا مُجيبُ يا رِقيبُ

O Reckoner. O Innovator;

ya haseebo ya badeeo

يا حَسيبُ يا بَديعُ

O Exalted; O Unassailable;

ya rafeeo ya manee'o

يا رَفيعُ يا مَنيعُ

O Hearer. O Knower;

ya sameeo ya aleemo,

يا سَميعُ يا عَليمُ

O Forbearing; O Bountiful;

ya haleemo, ya kareemo,

يا حَليمُ يا كَريمُ

O Wise; O Eternal;

ya hakeemo, ya qadeemo,

يا حَكيمُ يا قَديمُ

O Lofty; O Great.

ya alio ya azimo,

يا عَلِيُّ يا عَظيمُ

O most Compassionate; O Giver of all good;

ya hannano ya mannano,

يا حَنّانُ يا مَنّانُ

O most perfect Requiter of good and evil; O You whose help is sought for

ya dayyano ya moostaano,

يا دَيّانُ يا مُسْتَعانُ

O Majestic; O Glorious;

ya jaleelo ya jameelo

يا جَليلُ يا جَميلُ

O Trusted; O Guardian;

ya wakeelo, ya kafeelo

يا وَكيلُ يا كفَيلُ

O Alleviator of suffering; O Fulfiller of hopes;

ya moqeelo ya moneelo

يا مُقيلُ يا مُنيلُ

O Guide; O Magnanimous.

ya nabeelo' ya daleelo

يا نَبيلُ يا دَليلُ

O Giver of guidance; O Commencer;

ya hadee ya badee

يا هادي يا بادي

O First; O Last;

ya awwalo ya akhiro

يا أَوَّلُ يا آخِرُ

O Evident; O Hidden.

ya zahiro, wa batino,

يا ظاهِرُ يا باطِنُ

O Established; O Everlasting;

ya qa'em-o, ya daa'emo,

يا قائِمُ يا دائِمُ

O Knowing; O Ruler;

ya ' alimo, ya hakimo, ,

يا عالِمُ يا حاكِمُ

O Dispenser of justice; O Equitable;

ya qazio, ya ' adilo,

يا قاضي يا عادِلُ

O You that disjoins and unites

ya fasilo, ya wasilo,

يا فاصِلُ يا واصِلُ

; O Pure; O Purifier;

ya tahiro, ya motah-hero,

يا طاهِرُ يا مُطَهّـِرُ

O Powerful; O Almighty;

ya qadiro, ya moqtadiro,

يا قادِرُ يا مُقْتَدِرُ

O Great; O Magnificent.

ya kabeero, ya motakabbiro,

يا كَبيرُ يا مُتَكَبّـِرُ

O One; O Matchless; O Eternal and Absolute;

ya wahido, ya ahado, ya samado,

يا واحِدُ يا أَحَدُ يا صَمَدُ

O You that begets not, nor is He begotten;

ya man lam walid wa lam yoolad

يا مَنْ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يوُلَدْ

nor is there equal to You anyone

ya lam ya -kool -lahoo kofo-an ahad,

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُواً أَحَدٌ

nor have You any spouse;

ya lam yakool-lahoo sahebaton

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ صاحِبَةٌ

nor any bearer of Your burden;

wa la kana ma'ahoo waziroon,

وَلا كانَ مَعَهُ وَزيرٌ،

nor any consultant to give You advice;

wa lattakhaza ma'ahoo mosheeran,

وَلاَ اتَّخَذَ مَعَهُ مُشيراً،

nor do You need any supporter;

wa lah-taja ila zaheerin,

وَلاَ احْتاجَ إِلىٰ ظَهيرٍ

nor is there with You any other deity;

wa la kana ma'ahoo min illahin ghairohoo,

وَلا كانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ،

There is no God but You,

la 1iiaha illa anta

لا إِلـٰهَ إِلاّ أَنْتَ

and You are far exalted with great excellence above all that which the unjust folk do say concerning You

fata'a-laita, amma yaqoolooz-zalemoona 'oloowan kabeeran,

فَتَعالَيْتَ عَمّا يَقُولُ الظّالِمُونَ عُلُوّاً كَبيراً،

O High and Lofty;

ya alliyo, ya shamikho,

يا عَلِيُّ يا شامِخُ

O most Glorious; O Opener;

ya bazekho, ya fattaho,

يا باذِخُ يا فَتّاحُ

O Diffuser of fragrance; O Tolerant;

ya naffaho, ya moortaho,

يا نَفّاحُ يا مُرْتاحُ

O Reliever; O Helper;

ya mofarrejo, ya nasiro,

يا مُفَرّ ِجُ يا ناصِرُ

O Victorious; O Overtaker;

ya moontasiro, ya modriko,

يا مُنْتَصِرُ يا مُدْرِكُ

O Destroyer; O Avenger;

ya mohliko, ya moon-taqimo,

يا مُهْلِكُ يا مُنْتَقِمُ

O Resurrector; O Inheritor;

ya ba'eso, ya wareso,

يا باعِثُ يا وارِثُ

O Seeker; O Conquerer;

ya talibo, ya ghalibo,

يا طالِبُ يا غالِبُ

O You from Whom no fugitive can escape.

ya man la yaffotohoo hareboon,

يا مَنْ لا يَفُوتُهُ هارِبٌ،

O Acceptor of repentance; O Ever-forgiving;

ya tawwabo, ya awwabo,

يا تَوّابُ يا أَوّابُ

O Great Bestower; O Causer of all causes;

ya wahhabo, ya mosab-be-bal asbabe,

يا وَهّابُ يا مُسَبّـِبَ الأَسْبابِ

O Opener of doors (of relief and salvation);

ya mofattehal abwabe,

يا مُفَتّـِحَ الأَبْوابِ

O You that answers howsoever You are invoked.

ya man haitho ma do'eya ajaba,

يا مَنْ حَيْثُ ما دُعِيَ أَجابَ،

O Purifier; O Giver of manifold rewards;

ya tahooro, ya shakooro,

يا طَهُورُ يا شَكُورُ

O Excuser; O Pardoner;

ya ' afoo'o, ya ghafooro,

يا عَفُوُّ يا غَفُورُ

O Light of all lights; O Director of all affairs.

ya nooral noore, ya modabberal omoore,

يا نُورَ النُّورِ يا مُدَبّـِرَ الأُموُرِ

O Ever Blissful; O All-Aware;

ya lateefo, ya khabiro,

يا لَطيفُ يا خَبيرُ

O Protector; O Luminous;

ya mojeero, ya moneero,

يا مُجيرُ يا مُنيرُ

O Seer; O Supporter; O Great.

ya baseero, ya naseero, ya kabeero,

يا بَصيرُ يا ظَهِيرُ يَا كَبيرُ

O Lone; O Unique;

ya witro ya fardo

يا وِتْرُ يا فَرْدُ

O Everlasting; O Upholder;

ya abado, ya sanado,

يا أَبَدُ يا سَنَدُ

O Eternal and Absolute.

ya samado,

يا صَمَدُ،

O Sufficer; O Healer;

ya kafee, ya shafee,

يا كافي يا شافي

O Fulfiller of promises; O Deliverer of welfare.

ya wafee, ya mo'afee,

يا وافي يا مُعافي

O Benefactor; O Beautifier;

ya mohsino, ya mojmilo,

يا مُحْسِنُ يا مُجْمِلُ

O Bestower of grace; O Grantor of favours;

ya mon'imo, ya mofzelo,

يا مُنْعِمُ يا مُفْضِلُ

O Gracious; O Peerless.

ya motakarremo, ya motafarredo,

يا مُتَكَرّ ِمُ يا مُتَفَرّ ِدُ،

O You that being Exalted, overwhelmed;

ya man' ala faqahara,

يا مَنْ عَلا فَقَهَرَ

O You that being Master of all, have absolute power;

ya man malaka faqadara,

يا مَنْ مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ،

O You, who being hidden, are well informed;

ya man batana, fa-khabara,

يا مَنْ بَطَنَ فَخَبَرَ،

O You, who being worshipped, rewards

ya man 'obeda fashakara

يا مَنْ عُبِدَ فَشَكَرَ،

O You that being disobeyed forgives;

ya man 'oseya faghafara

يا مَنْ عُصِيَ فَغَفَرَ،

O You Whom no thought can fully comprehend;

ya mal la tah-weehil fikaro,

يا مَنْ لا يَحْويهِ الْفِكَرُ

nor sight perceive

ya la yod-rikohoo basaroon,

وَلا يُدْرِكُهُ بَصَرٌ،

nor from whom any impression is hidden,

ya la yakhfa ' alaihe atharon,

وَلا يَخْفىٰ عَلَيْهِ أَثَرٌ،

O Nourisher of Mankind;

ya razeqal bashare,

يا رازِقَ الْبَشَرِ

O Ordainer of every destiny.

ya moqaddera koollee qadarin,

يا مُقَدّ ِرَ كُلّ ِ قَدَرٍ،

O You of Exalted position;

ya' ali-yalmakane,

يا عالِيَ الْمَكانِ

O You Formidable in Your foundations;

ya shadeedal arkane,

يا شَديدَ الأَرْكانِ

O Changer of times;

ya mobad-delaz-zamane,

يا مُبَدّ ِلَ الزَّمانِ

O Acceptor of sacrifice;

y'a qabelal qoorbane,

يا قابِلَ الْقُرْبانِ

O You full of favours and benefactions;

ya zal-manne, wal-ahsane,

يا ذَا الْمَنّ ِ وَالإِحْسانِ

O Lord of Honor and Supremacy;

ya zal-izze was-sooltane,

يا ذَا الْعِزَّةِ وَالسُّلْطانِ

O All Merciful; O most Compassionate;

ya rahimo, ya rahmano,

يا رَحيمُ يَا رَحـْمٰنُ

O You that has each day a distinctive Glory

ya man howa koolle yowmin fee shanin,

يا مَنْ هُوَ كُلّ ِ يَوُمٍ في شَأْنٍ

while no aspect of Your Glory is erased by the prominence of another aspect.

ya man la wash-gholohoo shanoon ' an shanin,

يا مَنْ لا يَشْغَلُهُ شَأْنٌ عَنْ شَأْنٍ،

Oh Lord of great Glory

ya ' azimash-shane,

يا عَظيمَ الشَّأنِ

O You that are present in every place.

ya man howa be-koolle makanin,

يا مَنْ هُوَ بِكُلّ ِ مَكانٍ،

O Hearer of all voices;

ya same'al-aswate,

يا سامِعَ الأَصْواتِ

O Answerer of prayers;

ya mojeeb-ad-da'wate,

يا مُجيبَ الدَّعَواتِ

O Giver of success in all requirements;

ya moonjehat- talebate,

يا مُنْجِحَ الطَّلِباتِ

O Fulfiller of all needs;

ya qazeyal-hajate,

يا قاضِيَ الْحاجاتِ

O Bestower of blessings;

ya monzelal-barakate,

يا مُنْزِلَ الْبَرَكاتِ

O You that takes pity on our tears.

ya rahemal 'aberate,

يا راحِمَ الْعَبَراتِ

O You that raises from the pitfalls;

ya moqeelal-' asarate,

يا مُقيلَ الْعَثَراتِ

O You that relieves agonies;

ya kashefal-korobate,

يا كاشِفَ الْكُرُباتِ

O You that are the Cherisher of good deeds.

ya-wali-yal hasanate,

يا وَلِيَّ الْحَسَناتِ

O You that raises men in rank and degree;

ya rafe'ad-darajate,

يا رافِعَ الدَّرَجاتِ

O You that accedes to requests;

ya mo'ti-yas-so'late,

يا مُؤْتِيَ السُّؤْلاتِ

O You that brings the dead to life;

ya moh-ye-yal amwate,

يا مُحْيِيَ الأَمْواتِ

O You that gathers together that which is scattered.

ya jame'ash-shatate,

يا جامِعَ الشَّتاتِ

O You that are informed of all intentions;

ya mottale'an ' alanni-yate,

يا مُطَّلِعاً عَلَىٰ النّـِيّاتِ

You that restores that which has been lost;

ya radda ma qad fata,

يا رادَّ ما قَدْ فاتَ

O You that are not confused by a multiplicity of voices;

ya man-la tash-tabeho '

alaihi-il aswato,

يا مَنْ لا تَشْتَبِهُ عَلَيْهِ الأَصْواتُ

O You that are not harassed by a multitude of petitions;

ya man la tozjero-hool mas'alato

يا مَنْ لا تُضْجِرُهُ الْمَسْأَلاتُ

and Whom no darkness can hide or cover;

wa la tagh- shahooz-zolomato,

وَلا تَغْشاهُ الظُّلُماتُ،

O Light of heaven and earth.

ya nooral-arze was-samawate

يا نُورَ الأَرْضِ والسَّماواتِ

O Perfector of blessings;

ya sabeghanne'ame,

يا سابِغَ النّـِعَمِ

O Averter of calamaties;

ya dafe-an-neqame,

يا دافِعَ النّـِقَمِ،

O Producer of zephyrs;

ya bare'al-nesame,

يا بارِئَ النَّسَمِ

O Gatherer of nations;

ya jamea'l omame,

يا جامِعَ الأُمَمِ

O Healer of disease;

ya shafe-yas-saqame

يا شافِيَ السَّقَمِ

O Creator of light and darkness;

ya khaleqan-noore, waz-zolame,

يا خالِقَ النُّورِ وَالظُّلَمِ

O Lord of generosity and munificence;

ya zal joode wal-karame,

يا ذَا الْجُودِ وَالْكَرَمِ

O You (on) whose throne no one can set foot!

ya man la yata' o arshahoo qadamoon

يا مَنْ لا يَطَأُ عَرْشَهُ قَدَمٌ،

O You more generous than the most generous;

ya ajwadal ajwadeena,

يا أَجْوَدَ الأَجْوَدينَ

O You more munificent than the most munificent;

ya akramal-akrameena,

يا أَكْرَمَ الأَكْرَمينَ

O You most keen of hearing than the most keen of hearing;

ya asma'as-same'eena,

يا أَسْمَعَ السّامِعينَ

O You more keen of vision than the most perceiving;

ya absaran-nazereena,

يا أَبْصَرَ النّاظِرينَ

O Protecting neighbor of those that seek Your neighborhood.

ya jaral-moostajeereena,

يا جارَ الْمُسْتَجيرينَ

O Refuge of the fearful;

ya amanal-khaa'efeena,

يا أَمانَ الْخائِفينَ

O supporter of those who take refuge (in You)

ya zahral-lajeena,

يا ظَهْرَ اللاّجينَ

O Patron of the faithful;

ya wali-yal mo'meneena,

يا وَلِيَّ الْمُؤْمِنينَ

O Helper of those that seek Your help;

ya gheyathal mos-tagheetheena,

يا غِياثَ الْمُسْتَغيثينَ

O ultimate Goal of those that aspire.

ya ghayatat-talebeena,

يا غايَةَ الطّالِبينَ

O Companion of all strangers;

ya saheba koolle gharibin,

يا صاحِبَ كُلّ ِ غَريبٍ

O Friend of all the lonely ones;

ya moonisa koollee waheedin,

يا مُؤْنِسَ كُلّ ِ وَحيدٍ،

O Refuge of all outcasts;

ya malja-a koolle tariddin,

يا مَلْجَأَ كُلّ ِ طَريدٍ

O Retreat of all persecuted ones;

ya maawa koolee shareedin,

يا مَأْوىٰ كُلّ ِ شَريدٍ

O Guardian of all those who stray.

ya hafeza koolle zal-iatin,

يا حافِظَ كُلّ ِ ضالَّةٍ،

O You that takes pity on the aged and decrepit;

ya rahemash-shaikhil-kabire,

يا راحِمَ الشَّيْخِ الْكَبيرِ،

O You that nourishes the little baby;

ya razeqat- tiflis-saghire,

يا رازِقَ الّطِفْلِ الصَّغيرِ

O You that joins together broken ones;

ya jaber-al'azmil kaseere,

يا جابِرَ الْعَظْمِ الْكَسيرِ

O Liberator of all prisoners;

ya fak-ka koolle aseerin,

يا فاكَّ كُلّ ِ أَسيرٍ،

O Enricher of the miserable poor;

ya moghni-yal-baa'esil-faqeere,

يا مُغْنِيَ الْبائِسِ الْفَقيرِ،

O Protector of the frightened refugees;

ya ismatal-khaa'efil moostajeere,

يا عِصْمَةَ الْخائِفِ الْمُسْتَجيرِ،

O You for Whom alone are both destiny and disposal;

ya man lahoot-tadbeero wattaqdeero,

يا مَنْ لَهُ التَّدْبيرُ وَالتَّقْديرُ

O You for Whom all difficult things are simple and easy;

ya manil'aseero, alaihe sahloon yaseeroon,

يا مَنِ الْعَسيرُ عَلَيْهِ سَهْلٌ يَسيرٌ،

O You that does not need any explanation.

ya man la yahtajo ila tafseerin,

يا مَنْ لا يَحْتاجُ إِلىٰ تَفْسيرٍ،

O You Mighty over all things;

ya man howa ' ala koolle shai-in qadeeroon,

يا مَنْ هُوَ عَلىٰ كُلّ ِ شْيءٍ قَديرٌ

O You Knower of all things.

ya man howa be-koolle shai-in khabiroon,

يا مَنْ هُوَ بِكُلّ ِ شَيْءٍ خَبيرٌ

O You Seer of all things.

ya man howa be-koollee shai-in baseeroon,

يا مَنْ هُوَ بِكُلّ ِ شَيْءٍ بَصيرٌ،

O You that makes breezes blow;

ya moorselar-reyahe,

يا مُرْسِلَ الرّ ِياحِ

O You that cleaves the day-break;

ya faleqal asbahe,

يا فالِقَ الإِصْباحِ

O Reviver of the spirits;

ya ba'esal arwahe,

يا باعِثَ الأَرْواحِ

O Lord of Generosity and Clemency;

ya-zaljoode was-samahe,

يا ذَا الْجُودِ وَالسَّماحِ

O You in Whose hands are all keys.

ya man be-yadehi koollo miftahin,

يا مَنْ بِيَدِهِ كُلُّ مِفْتاحٍ،

O Hearer of all voices;

ya same'a koolle sowtin,

يا سامِعَ كُلّ ِ صَوْتٍ

O You earlier in time than all that have passed away;

ya sabeqa koolle fawtin,

يا سابِقَ كُلّ ِ فَوْتٍ

O Giver of life to every soul after death.

ya moh-yeya koolle nafsin ba'dal mowte,

يا مُحْيِيَ كُلّ ِ نَفْسٍ بَعْدَ المَوْتِ،

O my Means of defense in confronting hardships;

ya 'oddati fee shiddati

يا عُدَّتي في شِدَّتي

O my Guardian in strange lands;

ya hafezi fee ghoorbati,

يا حافِظيِ في غُرْبَتي

O my Friend in my loneliness;

ya moonesi fee wahdati,

يا مُؤنِسي في وَحْدَتي

O my Master in my bliss;

ya wali-yee fee ne'mati,

يا وَلِيّي في نِعْمَتي

O my Refuge at the time when the journey does tire me out

ya kahfi heena to'eenil-mazahibo

يا كَهْفي حينَ تُعْيينِي الْمَذاهِبُ

and my kinsfolk hand me over to my foes

wa tosal-iemonil-aqaribo

وَتُسَلّـِمُنيِ الأَقارِبُ

and all my comrades forsake me.

wa yakhzo-loni koollo sahebin

وَيَخْذُلُني كُلُّ صاحِبٍ

O Supporter of those who have no support;

ya ' imada man la 'imada lahoo,

يا عِمادَ مَنْ لا عِمادَ لَهُ،

O Guarantor of those who have no guarantee;

ya sanada man la sanada lahoo,

يا سَنَدَ مَنْ لا سَنَدَ لَهُ،

O Wealth of those who have no wealth;

ya zookhra man la zookra lahoo,

يا ذُخْرَ مَنْ لا ذُخْرَ لَهُ،

O Means of those who have no strength;

ya hirza man la hirza lahoo,

يا حِرْزَ مَنْ لا حِرْزَ لَهُ،

O Refuge of those who have no refuge;

ya kahfa man la kahfa lahoo,

يا كَهْفَ مَنْ لا كَهْفَ لَهُ،

O Treasure of those who have no treasure;

ya kanza man la kanza lahoo,

يا كَنْزَ مَنْ لا كَنْزَ لَهُ،

O He who relies on those who have none to rely on,

ya rookna man la rookna lahoo,

يا رُكْنَ مَنْ لا رُكْنَ لَهُ،

O Helper of those who have no helper;

ya gheyasa man la gheyasa lahoo,

يا غِياثَ مَنْ لا غِياثَ لَهُ،

O Neighbour of those who have no neighbour.

ya jara man la jara lahoo,

يا جارَ مَنْ لا جارَ لَهُ،

O my Neighbour that are adjacent;

ya jare-yal-laseeqo,

يا جارِيَ اللَّصيقَ،

O my Support that are firm;

ya rokni-yal-watheeqo,

يا رُكْنِيَ الَْوَثيقَ،

O my God that are worshipped by virtue of positive knowledge;

ya ilahi bit- tahqeeqi

يا إِلـٰهِي بِالتَّحْقيقِ،

O Lord of the Ancient House (the Ka'ba);

ya rabbal-baitil-attiqi,

يا رَبَّ الْبَيْتِ الْعَتيقِ،

O You full of loving and kindness; O nearest Friend.

ya shafiqo, ya rafiqo,

يا شَفيقُ يا رَفيقُ

Liberate me from the choking fetters,

fukkani min hel-aqil-mazeeqe

فُكَّني مِنْ حَلَقِ الْمَضيقِ،

Remove from me all sorrow, suffering and grief,

wasrif ' anni koolla hammin wa ghammin wa zeeqin

وَاصْرِفْ عَنّي كُلَّ هَمّ ٍ وَغَمّ ٍ وَضيقٍ،

Protect me from the evil that I am unable to bear,

wak-feni sharra ma la oteeqo

وَاكْفِني شَرَّ ما لا أُطيقُ،

and help me in that which I can bear,

wa a'inni 'ala ma oteeqo,

وَأَعِنّي عَلىٰ ما أُطيقُ،

O You that did restore Yusuf unto Yaqub;

ya radda yousofa ' ala ya' qooba,

يا رادَّ يُوسُفَ عَلىٰ يَعْقُوبَ،

O You that did cure Ayyub of his malady;

ya kashefa zorre ayy-ooba

يا كاشِفَ ضُرّ ِ أَيُّوبَ،

O You that did forgive the fault of Dawood;

ya ghafera zambe dawooda,

يا غافِرَ ذَنْبِ داوُدَ،

O You that did lift up Isa

ya rafe'a 'isabne maryama

يا رافِعَ عيسَىٰ بْنِ مَرْيَمَ

and saved him from the clutches of the Jews;

wa moonje yaho min

aidil ya-hoode,

وَ مُنْجِيَهُ مِنْ أَيْدِي الْيَهوُدِ،

O You that did answer the prayer of Yunus from the darkness;

ya mojeeba nidaa'e younosa fiz-zoloma-te

يا مُجيبَ نِداءِ يُونُسَ فِي الظُّلُماتِ،

O You that did choose Musa by means of Your inspired words;

ya mostafeya moosa bil- kalemate,

يا مُصْطَفِيَ مُوسىٰ بِالْكَلِماتِ،

O You that did forgive the omission of Adam

ya man ghafara le-adama khatee'ataho

يا مَنْ غَفَرَ لآِدَمَ خَطيـئَتَهُ

and lifted up Idris to an exalted station by Your mercy;

wa rafa'a idreesa makanan '

ali-yan be-rahmatehi,

وَرَفَعَ إِدْريسَ مَكاناً عَلِيّاً بِرَحْمَتِهِ،

O You that did save Nooh from drowning;

ya man najja noohan minal gharqe,

يا مَنْ نَجّىٰ نُوحاً مِنَ الْغَرَقِ،

O You that did destroy the former tribe of Ad

ya man ahlaka 'aadan nil-oola

يا مَنْ أَهْلَكَ عاداً الأُولىٰ

and then Thamud, so that no trade of them remained,

wa thamooda fama ab-qa

وَثَمُودَ فَما أَبْقىٰ

and destroyed the people of Noah before that,

wa qowma noohin min qablo

وَقَوْمَ نوُحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ

for verily they were the most unjust and most rebellious;

innahoom kan-oo hoom azlama wa atgha

إِنَّهُمْ كانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغىٰ،

and overturned the ruined and deserted towns;

walmo 'tafekata ahwa,

وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوىٰ

O You that destroyed the people of Lot;

ya man dammara ' ala qowme lootin

يا مَنْ دَمَّرَ عَلىٰ قَوْمِ لوُطٍ

and annihilated the people of Sho'aib;

wa damdama, 'ala qowme shoaibin,

وَدَمْدَمَ عَلىٰ قَوْمِ شُعَيْبٍ،

O You that chose Ibrahim as a friend;

ya manit- tak-haza ibrahima khaleelan,

يا مَنِ اتَّخَذَ إِبْراهيمَ خَليلاً،

O You that chose Musa as one spoken unto;

ya manit-takhaza moosa kaleeman,

يا مَنِ اتَّخَذَ مُوسىٰ كَليماً

and chose Muhammed (Your blessings be upon him and his Progeny, all of them) as Your Beloved;

ya manit-takhaza mohammadan sal-lal-aho ' alaihe wa alehi ajma' eena habee-ban,

وَاتَّخَذَ مُحَمَّداً صَلَّىٰ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ أَجْمَعينَ حَبيباً،

O You that gave unto Luqman wisdom;

ya mo'teya loqmanal hikmata

يا مُؤْتِيَ لُقْمانَ الْحِكْمَةَ

and bestowed upon Sulaiman a kingdom the like of which shall not be merited by anyone after him;

wal-wahaba le-solaimana moolkan, la yambaghi le-ahedim-mim-ba'dehi,

وَالْواهِبَ لِسُلَيْمانَ مُلْكاً لا يَنْبَغي لِأَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ،

O You that did afford succour unto the Zul Qarnayn  against the mighty tyrants;

ya man nasara zal-qarnaine ' ai-al-malookil-jababerate

يا مَنْ نَصَرَ ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ عَلَىٰ الْمُلُوكِ الْجَبابِرَةِ،

O You that did grant unto Khizr long life;

ya man a'tal-khizral-hayata,

يا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ الْخِضْرَ الْحَياةَ،

and brought back for Yusha, the son of Nun, the sun after it had set;

wa radda le- yoosha 'abne noon -ash-shamse ba'da ghoroobiha

وَرَدَّ لِيُوشَعَ بْنِ نوُن الشَّمْسَ بَعْدَ غرُوُبِها

O You that gave solace unto the heart of Musa's mother;

ya man rabata, ala qalbe oome moosa

يا مَنْ رَبَطَ عَلىٰ قَلْبِ أُمّ ِ مُوسىٰ

and protected the chastity of Mariam, the daughter of Imran;

wa ahsana farja ma-ryamab-nate 'imrana,

وَأَحْصَنَ فَرْجَ مَرْيَمَ ابْنَتِ عِمْرانَ،

O You that did fortify Yahya, the Son of Zakaria against sin;

ya man hassana yahya-bna zakariya minaz-zambe,

يا مَنْ حَصَّنَ يَحْيَىٰ بْنَ زَكَرِيّا مِنَ الذَّنْبِ

and abated the wrath for Musa;

wa sakkana 'an moosal-ghazaba,

وَسَكَّنَ عَنْ مُوسَىٰ الْغَضَبَ،

O You that gave glad tidings of (the Birth of) Yahya unto Zakaria;

ya man bash-shera zakariyyabe-yahya,

يا مَنْ بَشَّرَ زَكَرِيّا بِيَحْيىٰ،

O You that saved Ismaeel from slaughter by substituting for him the Great Sacrifice;

ya man fada isma'eela minaz-zabhe be-zabhin ' azim,

يا مَنْ فَدا إِسْماعيلَ مِنَ الذَّبْحِ بِذِبْحٍ عَظيمٍ،

O You that did accept the offering of Habeel

ya man qabela qoorbana ha-beela

يا مَنْ قَبِلَ قُرْبانَ هابيلَ

and placed the curse upon Qabeel.

waj'alal-la'nata ' ala qabeela,

وَجَعَلَ اللَّعْنَةَ عَلىٰ قابيلَ،

O Subduer of the alien hordes for Muhammad - the blessings of Allah be upon him and his Progeny -

ya hazemal-ahzabe le mohammadin sal-lal-aho ' alaihe wa alehi

يا هازِمَ الأَحْزابِ لِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ،

bestow Your blessings upon Muhammad and the Progeny of Muhammad

salli ‘ala mohammadin wa ' aale mohammadin

صَلّ ِ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

and upon all Your Messengers and upon the Angels that are near You

wa ' ala jami'il ambiyya'e wal-moorsaleena wa malaa'ekatekal-moqarrabeena

وَ عَلىٰ جَميعِ الْمُرْسَلينَ وَمَلائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبينَ

and upon all Your obedient servants.

wa ahle ta-'ateka ajmaeena

وَأَهْلِ طاعَتِكَ أَجْمَعينَ،

And I beg of You all the requests which anyone has begged of You with whom You has been pleased

wa as-aloka be-koolle mas-'alatin sa'alaka beha ahadoon mimman razee-ta ' anho

وَأَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلّ ِ مَسْأَلَةٍ سَأَلَكَ بِها أَحَدٌ مِمَّنْ رَضيتَ عَنْهُ،

and unto whom You has assured the granting thereof,

fahatamta lahoo ' alal ijabate,

فَحَتَمْتَ لَهُ عَلَىٰ الإِجابَةِ

O Allah, O Allah, O Allah,

ya allaho, ya allaho, ya allaho,

يا اَللهُ يا اَللهُ يا اَللهُ،

O Most Merciful, O Most Merciful, O Most Merciful,

ya rahmano, ya rahmano, ya rahmano,

يا رَحـْمٰنُ يا رَحمنُ يا رَحـْمٰنُ ،

O Most Beneficient, O Most Beneficient, O Most Beneficient,

ya raheemo, ya raheemo ya raheemo,

يا رَحيمُ يا رَحيمُ  يا رَحيمُ،

O Lord of Majesty and Grace, O Lord of Majesty and Grace, O Lord of Majesty and Grace.

ya zal-jalale wal-ikrame, ya zal-jalale wal-ikrame, ya zal-jalale wal-ikrame,

يا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالإِكُرامِ يا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَ الإِكْرامِ يا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالإِكْرامِ،

Through You, Through You, Through You, Through You, Through You, Through You, Through You

behi, behi, behi, behi behi behi, behi,

بـِهِ بِـهِ بِـهِ بِـهِ بِـهِ بِـهِ بِـهِ

I beseech You with the help of all the Names whereby You have named Yourself,

as'aloka be-koolle ismin sammaita behi nafsaka

أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلّ ِ إِسْمٍ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ

or which You have revealed in any of Your inspired Scriptures,

aw anza-itahoo fee shai-in min kootobeka

أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ في شَيْءٍ مِنْ كُتُبِكَ

or Which You have inscribed in Your knowledge of the unknown;

awis-taatharta behi fee '1imil-ghaibe indaka

أَوِ اسْتَأثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ،

and (I beseech You) in the name of the honored and exalted positions of Your Throne,

wa bema'aqedil-izze min 'arsheka

وَبِمَعاقِدِ الْعِزّ ِ مِنْ عَرْشِكَ،

and in the name of the utmost extent of Your Mercy as expressed in Your Book (the Quran)

wa be-moontahar-rahmate min kitabeka

وَبِمُنْتَهَىٰ الرَّحْمَةِ مِنْ كِتابِكَ،

and in the name of that which "If all the trees on earth were to become pens

wa bema low anna ma fil arze min shajaratin aqlamoon

وَبِما لَوْ أَنَّ ما فِي الأَرْضِ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ أَقْلامٌ

and the sea, with seven more seas to help it, (were ink)

wal-bahro yamooddo-hoo

mim-ba'dehi sab'ato abhorin

وَالْبَحْرُ يَمُدُّهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ سَبْعَةُ أَبْحُرٍ

the Words of Allah would not come to an end.

ma nafedat ka-lematoollahe

ما نَفِدَتْ كَلِماتُ اللهِ

Verily Allah is the Honoured, the Wise" 31:27;

innal-laha azeezon hakeem,

إِنَّ اللهَ عَزيزٌ حَكيمٌ

And I beseech You with the help of Your Beautiful Names which You have praised in Your Book,

wa as'aloka be-asmaa'ekal hoosnal-lati na'attaha fee kitabeka

وَ أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَسْمائِكَ الْحُسْنَىٰ الَّتي نَعَتَّها في كِتابِكَ

saying “The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on him by them” 7:180

faqoolta wa lillahil asmaa'ool-hoosna fad-ooho beha

فَقُلْتَ وَللهِ الأَسْماءُ الْحُسْنىٰ فَادْعوُهُ بِها،

And You have said "Call unto Me and I shall answer you” 40:60

waqulta ‘ud’ooni astajib lakom

وَقُلْتَ اُدْعُوني أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ،

and You has said, "And when My servants ask something of Me, lo, I am near, and I grant the prayer of the supplicant when he asks anything of Me” 2:186

wa qoolta wa iza sa'al-aka 'ibadi ' anni fa-inni qareeboon ojeebo da'w-atad-da'e iza da'ane

وَقُلْتَ وَإِذا سَأَلَكَ عِبادي عَنّي فَإِنّـِي قَريبٌ أُجيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدّاعِ إِذا دَعانِ،

And You has said, "O My servants who have wronged yourselves, despair not of the Mercy of Allah;

wa qoolta ya 'lbadeyal-lazeena asrafoo ' ala anfosehim la ta-qnatoo min rahmatil-iahe

وَقُلْتَ يا عِبادِيَ الّذَينَ أَسْرَفوُا عَلىٰ أَنْفُسِهِمْ لا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللهِ

verilly Allah forgives all the sins;

innal-laha yaghferooz-zonooba jami-an

إِنَّ اللهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَميعاً

verily He is the Forgiving, the Merciful." 39:53

innahoo howal ghafooror ra'-him,

إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحيمُ،

Therefore I pray unto You, My God, and I ask You, My Cherisher and Sustainer,

wa ana as'aloka ya ilahi wa a'dooka ya rabbe,

وَأَنَا أَسْأَلُكَ يا إِلـٰهِي وَأَدْعُوكَ يا رَبّ ِ

and I hope from You, my Chief,

wa arjooka ya sayyadi

وَأَرْجُوكَ يا سَيّـِدي

and I crave Your acceptance of my prayer, O my Protector, even as You have promised me,

wa atma'o fee ijabati,

ya mowlaya kama wa' ad-tani

وَأَطْمَعُ في إِجابَتي يا مَوْلايَ كَما وَعَدْتَني،

and I call upon You even as You have commanded me

wa qad da'owtoka kama amartani

وَقَدْ دَعَوْتُكَ كَما أَمَرْتَني

So, do unto me what pleases You to do, O Generous One!

faf-al bi ma anta ah-lohoo, ya karimo

فَافْعَلْ بي ما أَنْتَ أَهْلُهُ يا كَريمُ،

And all Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds,

wal-hamdo lil-iahe rabbil-' a-lameena,

وَالْحَمْدُ للّهِ رَبّ ِ الْعالَمينَ

and the blessings of Allah be upon Muhammad and all His Descendants.

wa sal-lal-laho ' ala mohammadin wa alehi ajma'een

وَصَلَّىٰ اللهُ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ أَجْمَعينَ
